After calling to receive an estimate, Gerald Jr. was prompt in meeting me at my home that afternoon. I received a quote on the spot. Once we decided to move forward with the work, communication became increasingly difficult, as I never received a copy of our contract signed by both parties, even after placing our deposit. Work began 4 weeks after the deposit was made. Notification was received the night before work began. Again, little heads-up and communication. Once work began,  there was no input sought from me, the home owner, to reaffirm the layout, however, tweaks were made to the forms when I noticed that the stairs to be built would hanging off of the future patio. Concrete prep, pour and stamping appeared to go smoothly. We are happy with the finished patio. However, during clean up one afternoon, our hose nozzle was broken with no word to us. The work site was often left with some trash and cigarette butts, and or yard was torn up, paver stones were broken, somewhat to be expected, but we were told that top soil would be put down on top of the disturbed areas. It was more of a dirt/gravel mix. Included in our contract was a set of 4 tread stairs leading from our back door to the new patio. This is where things got interesting… As this must have been the first set of stairs installed at a jobsite by this particular person, the finished product was sub-par at best. Our hot tub was used as a work bench, railing was not to code as it starts too far from the house, screws were stripped and not fully set, the facia board does not cover the whole bottom of the step, and we experienced some very unprofessional behavior as the builder screamed and swore as mis-cuts were made to extra product. I eventually cut the final check as a means to end the toddler-like temper tantrum and call the project done. However, upon follow-up regarding the stairs, there was no recourse and the company would not stand behind their work in order to work with us to make it right. Our existing ledger board was blamed for their lack of experience in this area and quality of workmanship. Again, content with the concrete, disappointed in the stairs, and most importantly, the crappy attitude and lack of professional integrity to make a seemingly simple project right.
Response from Stampcrete of Maryland, Inc.
"I am glad you were happy with the patio. Speaking of the hot tub, a trampoline, furniture and plant pots being in the patio work area. We were able to provide you with a quality stamped concrete patio at a far price. I met with you where we went over the expected project, size and lay out at the estimate. You opted to remove your own deck to save money. There were 24 emails exchanged between the contract signing and completion (4 weeks) Not including text and calls. The patio was expanded so as to address your concern for the steps then expanded so as to better match up with your existing stamped concrete with no additional charge to you. Once the forming was complete you were asked to approve the forms prior to the pour as we do with every customer. As far as a hose nozzle I can not say as we used our presser washer for the concrete clean up. I can most certainly say that no trash was left behind. As for the top soil it contained nothing but dirt as it was purchased at the local landscape supply store. As far as the steps. Yes there was some difficulty getting a correct angle as you observed on you surveillance system with the cameras you placed at the site. It was after a couple of miss cuts that I discovered that the your band board was kicked out split, most likely from excessive prying of the deck ledger board during removal rather than removing the fasteners. The band board was covered by flashing which is why I did not see it sooner. You are welcome to have the county come out and check the stairs for any code violations. I seem to remember receiving the final check with polite conversation, no hostility or animosity. It was only in a later email where complaints were made with the threat of a bad review then at the same time you asking for one of my workers numbers so as to try to get him to hang/repair the siding to the rear of the house that was damaged at the time of the deck removal as a side job. This response had to be severely shortened and without uploads due to provider limitations."

The work was completed last week. Fortunately the work was completed before the weather became too cold. The workmanship was excellent. There was great attention to detail. The only negative was the pace of the work. It started a bit slow. However, I understand that this kind of work is subject to changes in the weather and so I did not complain because I understood what the builder is up against. You have to trust that your work will get done as quickly as they are able to finish up other projects in order to devote full time to your project. The outcome is worth your patience. The whole family is very happy with the outcome. Note: We did not spend any extra money to have the "Stampcrete" features. We decided that just a "broom" finish was satisfactory for our needs.

The first point of contact is the sales guy (sorry forgot his name). He was very nice and professional. They are very busy so we have a three-week wait after we signed the contract and when the work was scheduled to begin. Gerry, the owner is at the site everyday. Everyone was accommodating with. our schedule. We are very pleased with our new stamped concrete patio under our deck.

The work was done well overall, but I had to remove some large concrete pieces from the sloping areas around the edges. The original diggers had buried these close to the surface, which would have made landscaping impossible. This was not Jerry's fault, as they did not follow his instructions to break these up, and add them to the substrate rock under the patio base. There were delays due to the very bad weather, out of his control, but the re-scheduling needs could have been communicated better, in my opinion.

The process was flawless. It took about 2 - 3 days, from digging up old slate rock to applying the sealing agent and allowing time for it to dry.

Everything went as contracted.  Very hard work removing old concrete and preparing ground base for new pour.  Job was completed in 2 weeks.  Finished project is beautiful and have had many compliments.  Jerry worked daily on site and is very knowledgeable.of his trade.  Ground around the work site was repaired, i.e. grass sods returned, holes filled with soil, and well cleaned, including street.  Having the project finished in April the ground was quite wet and very muddy, which added extra work, but Jerry and Matt overcame these obstacles with ease. <br />

The work was done professionally and with high workmanship. Moreover, the cost of the work was very competitively priced as similar quotes for the same stamped concrete job were thousands of dollars higher.  Based upon my experience, I would definitely recommend this company to others seeking high quality work and dependable service. <br />

Gerry was very professional and had solutions for every "challenge" we gave him. He had a large number of patterns and colors to choose from, almost made it too hard to choose. He also made recommendations for options that we hadn't thought about --  rounding corners & making the concrete level with the stairs so nobody would trip. <br /> It took some time to schedule because he was very busy and he overseas every job, doing much of the work himself. Still, he gave us a general date, kept us updated on his workload, and started when he promised. <br /> I have recommended him to several neighbors (we live in a new development) and would use him again in a heartbeat. <br />

They came when they said they would and it took 3 days to complete the job.  The patio looks great and the color and pattern works very well with the rest of the backyard. <br /> <br />

A great company to work with. They could not have been more attentive to my concerns and explaining what to expect. <br /> They completed the job on time and were very good at cleaning up and  leaving the job site in a great condition. <br /> I was not left with work to do after they left as I have in the past with other contractors. <br /> The walkway turned out great and I am very happy.  <br /> I will recommend them to others and call them for any future projects.
