He seemed quite knowledgable, diagnosed the problem and found the most efficient way to complete the job. He came out and did the job in less time than one of our other bids indicated. It took him about half a day whereas the other bid said it would take 1-2 days and charged almost 75% more than what Standard completed the service for. Scott was very neat during and after he finished the service.

They were very good, showed up when they said they would, and the representative, Luke, was very patient and explained everything and answered any questions I had. He even gave me some options for the future. I would use them again.

My father-in-law came over on Sunday night and attempted to patch the leak with plumbers putty and duct tape. We turned off the water to the house just in case. I called early Monday morning to make an appointment, and was told they couldn't come until Tuesday morning. But early Monday afternoon they called back and said they'd had a cancellation and could come between 2 and 4 pm. The plumber called shortly after and said he could meet me at the house in 15 minutes and was there on the dot. He was very pleasant and helpful, knew just what to do, and suggested that if this would happen again electrical tape would work better than duct tap and explained why. I appreciated that helpful hint. He was very tidy, always wiped his feet going in and out of the basement. He replaced a section of pipe and showed me the bad one and suggested causes for the leak, if I wanted to submit this to insurance. The whole job was done in 45 minutes, and I am very pleased with the work and the experience. There was no attempt to sell more than was needed, and I didn't feel intimidated or conned in any way. I would definitely call them again.

My water heater was broken and Standard Plumbing was the first to return my phone call. It had broken on Christmas Day (Friday) and I had left messages for a number of companies. They were able to schedule me on Monday. The person they sent out was on time and professional. I was a little irritated that he wouldn't even walk over to the water heater until I had agreed to pay about $160 to diagnose the problem. Since I had been told on the phone that the service fee was around $60 and I had clearly told them that the water heater was broken, I wished they had told me that it would really be $160. The plumber spent a lot of time trying to diagnose the problem and then told me that I needed to replace some parts - total cost $525 for parts and labor (that would be the total charge - the $160 was included in the $525). I had to go back to work so I told the plumber to call me when he had it fixed. A few hours later, I received a call from the owner saying that the parts they replaced didn't fix the problem and they didn't know what was wrong. They put everything back the way it was, told me they wouldn't charge me anything at all (really nice surprise) and gave me the number of a specialist that they had already contacted in advance to see how soon the specialist could come out. If they had been able to fix my water heater at the $525, I would have given them mediocre ratings, but how they handled it when they couldn't fix it was really impressive. The specialist came out the next day and had it fixed in less than an hour.

They were excellent and they did a good job. They were on time, they were clean and didn't charge much for the work they did. They cleaned up after themselves.

They did a terrible job. They damaged my floor, promised to fix it, but neglected to do so. They chipped my new tub, installed the fixtures off center and damaged my new toilet. The quality was quite poor, but the unprofessional behavior was even more disappointing. The CEO was offensive and patronizing. I highly recommend against using Standard Plumbing!
Response from Standard Plumbing & Appliance
"Customers like this one here are a perfect example of why Angie's List should have feedback for customers as well as commercial clients. While we do admit to damaging her floor, please let me say not only did I make NUMEROUS attempt to rectify this situation but in the end the only thing this customer was looking for is a way to rip off a vendor. Rather then dealing with her anymore, I discounted her bill by 50% and she still had the audacity to complain. It was clear from the start that nothing I did would ever be enough for this customer. I came over on my own time multiple times to try and work with her. Sent over two different floor people who both told her no one could find a replacement for a small chip in her particle board flooring. First of all the floor was very old (not rustic, just old) The previous owners installed this laminate particle board flooring with cardboard backing and I made numerous phone calls and emails to try and find replacement for this. The overall chip in the floor was extremely small and to replace the floor with the material she had on the floor would have been MAYBE $500 TOPS! I gave her a a $2,300 discount. So please, state the honest facts. Second, this customer also insisted on buying her own products at a "discount outlet" So when she bought them and we installed them and she decided she didn't like what she bought, we were so kind as to give her new products at "COST" just to help her a long. We went above and beyond for this customer and nothing or no one could make this customer happy. Not only would I turn down business from this customer again, I have and also recommended all of the local contractors to do the same. We were not the only contractor on the job who was stiffed by this customer. She has zero tact or class when it comes to business."

On time; personable; helpful in explaining what he expected to find and in fact did find. Didn't 'upsell' us with unneeded service. Surprisingly, used one of our kitchen towels to 'mop up' or stop drain!?
Response from Standard Plumbing & Appliance
"Thank you again for your business and your comments. I'm sorry about whatever happened with the kitchen towel and would be happy to replace if anything was damaged. Please let me know. Thank you again for your business and have a blessed New Years."

I called them on a Sunday and said I didn't need an "emergency" appointment, but that I was trying to soak up a drip in the ceiling with fresh paper towels ever couple of hours and did they have an appointment soon? They said they could come over the next day. They gave me a 1PM to 3PM window on Monday, but not wanting to miss two hours of work in the middle of the day, I asked if they could call me at work (about five minutes away) when they were on their way over. They agreed, and I got the call at 2:20 the next day. I met the guy and showed him our drip. He told me we'd been trying to tighten the wrong thing, and showed me the packing nut to tighten, so we could do it ourselves next time. That was the whole repair, but after he made out the invoice and I signed it, he was nice enough to walk around the house with me and look at the outdoor plumbing I was concerned about and answer a couple of questions, free of charge. Not sure if I got the $30 Angies List discount or not. I mentioned it on the phone when I was scheduling it, but I didn't want to insist on a $30 discount on a $50 bill, so I didn't mention it again at the end. All in all, and very good experience.

I discovered the leak in the water heater in the late afternoon. They were at my house before 8 the next morning. Work was done by 10:30AM. Neat and clean. Todd was very professional and courteous. I threw in a bit of a curve when I asked to add a leak pan but he was able to accommodate me. The overall cost was a bit more than expected but you're over a barrel when your water heater is leaking. And because of a bad cold water supply valve, I had no water in the house, so I was really pinched. I wished I had asked about energy efficiency options when scheduling the work.
Response from Standard Plumbing & Appliance
"First of all thank you for your business. I would like to apologize for not speaking with you about a more energy efficient option for you as well. I should have taken the time to review that with you and I am truly sorry for not covering that. If you would like to discuss this option we could possibly make something work out in some sort of exchange. I would be open to speaking about it anyways. Thank you for your feedback it is very much appreciated and thank you for choosing Standard Plumbing to work in your home."

Contacted company and told them that my dishwasher had standing water in the bottom and was not draining; Plumber came and confirmed that the dishwasher had standing water in the basin and that the drain pipe was not plugged; Was told that he was just a plumber and that I needed to contact an appliance repair service; Was misled by AL that this plumber was an appliance repair service

I needed to leave the house while he did his work and upon return was greeted with a bill twice the original estimate. I called to express my shock and all he could say was, yeah it took longer than I thought but I cleaned up really nicely after myself didn't I? Isn't everything clean like we promised? I paid the bill but will never use them again and wouldn't recommend them.

The toilet flushed better, but still did not have great "power" and we had to hold the lever down for a while to be sure it would flush. About 2 months later the chain broke. My husband drained the bowl of water, bought a new mechanism, cut the chain to fit better and it is actually flushing better than before.

Overall went well. Chris was prompt and pleasant. He answered my questions and kept me informed of what he was doing and when. There was some confusion as Chris did not perform the estimate and the work order was not very specific. Chris was able to call and clear things up and the work continued. My invoice was for 875 but did not indicate if the 10% Angie's list discount had been applied. Chris called again and was told "the amount was the amount" I paid it, but I still don't know if the discount was really there or not.

Wade did a great job. Wade called and asked if he could come 1 hour earlier than scheduled. I was at work, but agreed to meet him 1/2 hour before my appt time. he arrived right on time. He needed a valve for the waterline and ran out to get one...didn't charge for that time. I was charged for 1 1/2 hours @$120/hour plus parts. I used the Angie's list coupon for an addt'l 10% off including parts for a final total of $205.20.
