I'll start by saying I wish I had simply verified whether or not the license listed on Jay's profile was actually an ACTIVE contractors license. I called the state of Tennessee this morning and gave them the license that Jay has listed as Star Exterior's contractors license: 059029. The state of Tennessee told me that the last time that license number was ACTIVE was in 2018 with a company called "Crown Industries LLC." Crown Industries LLC is a defunct business that was dissolved back in 2007, that lists Jay and a woman as the former owners. Star Exteriors doesn't show up as a registered company ever here in Tennessee. CI Builders, which is listed in their "description" section isn't listed as a Tennessee business either. All of this is public information that I obtained with either a single phone call or a couple of clicks with my computer mouse. So what all of this means, is that if the information the state of Tennessee gave me is correct, this guy isn't a licensed contractor and hasn't been one since 2018. That also makes me wonder how a person could obtain contractors insurance? I wish I had taken these very simple steps before signing a contract with this guy. Because now I've spent $30,733.78 on work that is unfinished, no permits have been pulled for, hasn't been completed, and I've had other construction professionals tell me the work performed isn't up to code. Jay quit without completing the contracted work. After Jay quit, I started gaining an awareness of all of these professional issues. Now I'm having to hire an engineer to come out and make sure the footings are legal, that the porch, roof, gable, window, and rear deck are all legal and safe. I'm having to hire a licensed contractor to come out to tell me how much it will cost to ensure everything is safe, legal, and will pass Williamson county codes. I'm having to pull all the appropriate permits to ensure this is in fact safe and legal. To add insult to injury.. The people that Jay hired to work on my home were drinking BEER and then breaking their beer bottles in my landscaping. Along with leaving behind their food, cigarettes, and other trash. I would encourage anyone looking to hire this guy to perform the simple due diligence that I wish I had performed. Had I known the license listed by Jay on his own Angi profile hadn't been active since 2018, I wouldn't have ever worked with him. Also keep in mind that even though his profile says "Angi Certified," that doesn't mean Angi has verified anything at all. It just means Jay told them he's legit. Jay is now under review with Angi for these licensure issues. I have filed a complaint with the state of Tennessee for Jay representing himself as a licensed contractor, engaging me in a contract as such, and in a contract exceeding $25,000. I will be speaking with local law enforcement to see if there has been a breach of Tennessee Title 62-6-120.

CI Builders are professionals. I was under the impression it was going to be hard process but then I contacted CI Builders asked about price, set appointment for a week out, in that time they were in contact with us answered all our questions via phone and email. Was contacted via text when team was in route, team showed up they were knowledgeable, friendly and effective on there tasks. Placing tarps down all around my home and covering bushes and lawn features. When they completed their task they cleaned up with no debris left on my property. Have set up future plans for additional projects.

The owner of this company, Jeremy (Jay), is very friendly and professional. First, he responded very quickly to our request for an estimate, and when we chose his company, they were able to begin within a week or so. He understood the issues that we had in replacing a deck that had prematurely begun deteriorating, and his crew was able to replace about 80% of it while salvaging the parts that were still in good shape. Jay was also happy to fine-tune the minor tweaks that needed to be made after the old deck was demolished and the new one installed. Our project turned out to have more issues than he could anticipate, but he stood by his original price quote. He is trustworthy and provides what he promises. His price was very reasonable, and we believe that we received our money's worth. He also works on roof and window replacements, and we would not hesitate to hire him if we had one of those projects.

We could not have asked for a better experience! Everything that was promised was done and then some! New deck is much better built and much more attractive than previous one. Crew was efficient, polite and made every effort to save a very special (my mom's) peony...and succeeded!! Thank you!!

Jay and his crew were an absolute pleasure to work with. They did an excellent job replacing my roof. The job was performed as described, on time, and on budget. I would not hesitate to hire CI Builders again for my next project.

Excellent, no problem with it, built on the house and you would say that the addition was built into the house, it was a good addition and great work. Termite Inspectors even commends the company that built the addition to the house. I got three estimates and all were competitive, and his bid was the lowest.
