They're good about showing up on time. And we never see insects. They also sprayed the house for termites to clear a termite issue.

He never completely pulled the old timbers out of the ground, stating that the ground would give way (we later learned from a good contractor that this wasn't true).  After he started working, he decided he needed to use poured concrete instead of block because the old timbers "supposedly" couldn't be removed.  He also wanted to have a heavy concrete truck drive over our grass into the backyard and over our brand new driveway.  It was by the grace of our neighbor telling us about a "pump truck" that we were able to stop him from doing this and ask him to get a pump truck.  He, of course, increased our price that we now owed him.  The forms they set up to pour the concrete in were weak particle board and pieces got stuck in the wall after they were removed.  Also, the wall bowed in and out because the boards could not hold the wall form in place as it dried.  They didn't lay any footer, nor did they put fill rock behind the wall, despite the fact that he had originally told us there would be proper drainage.  He poured the concrete over the old timbers to save money on concrete.  The wall was not vibrated correctly and there were holes and pockets throughout it.  The wall went up and down at the top because they didn't evenly distribute the concrete.  It was the ugliest wall I had ever seen.  One of their workers quit his employer half way through the job, and the work was already going at an incredibly slow pace.  They had an old tractor in our backyard with treaded tires to do all the work.  One of the tires was flat and they tore up our entire backyard which is now a mud pit.  They littered with cups, cans, old pizza boxes, cigarettes, all over our yard and never removed any debri.  They worked 10 minutes out of every 3 hours that they stood around talking.  I have multiple witnesses to this.  They also were working on a smaller cinderblock wall which they used no rebarb for and did not dig into the ground to make a proper footing.  The whole thing could be kicked over with your foot.  They originally said they would sod the yard, but backed out and said they would just seed instead.  They never called to keep me up to date on things, and hardly ever showed up.    I had paid them up front $1500 as a deposit.  Despite the fact that they asked for more money everyday (even though the job was ugly, incomplete, unprofessional, and just plain awful) I refused to give them anymore until they corrected what they had done.  They kept raising the price and telling me I needed to pay.  After about a month, I gave up hope and fired them.  Knowing I needed to pay someone a lot more to come in and tear down/fix what they had now done.  I had to call a cop to get them off my property and and a neighbor had to help get the tractor (which still had a flat tire) removed.  This was the worst experience of my life.  Be warned and stay clear of anyone by the name of JT Brown in Portland, TN who owns a handyman business or goes by the name of State Line.
