I explained this in length on a previous review. In short; we hired Derek in July and the job was finished in September. It appeared he was excepting way more jobs than he had crews. Some days Derek didn't have the supplies at job site & his crew were just sitting around waiting. The tile was cut incorrectly in some places and had to be redone. Trim tile was wrong and so to get the job done I went to a box store and bought the trim I wanted. Many time I could not get a hold of Derek through phone or text, even after the job was done he didn't contact me. I personally have never had a professional treat their customers the way Derek treat us. A few months after the job was done the showers copper water pipe leaked & needed repair. At first we thought the leak may have been elsewhere as this was a brand new shower including water supply soldered to new valve. A handyman came in to check things out and found the leak was coming from wall between shower & masterbath. He open the wall and found copper pipe was not soldered correctly. Since he had the wall open we had him fix the pipe. I notified Derek, the owner of Stonemasters DFW and he told that I should have contacted him therefore not his problem. I told him we weren't clear on where the water was coming from and so when we had our guy check on it and then locate it we needed it repaired then not wait for days to try to get ahold of him. He said not my problem. Now 16 months later we have grout cracking throughout the shower & water leaking out the shower. We had two different installers come look at it and have been told; the shower floor was done incorrectly, the threshold wasn't built high enough and the bench in the shower didn't have the proper support. To repair Derek's poor workmanship is going to cost us at the least approximately $4000,00!! Do not hire Derek/Stonemasters DFW!! I regret that I paid this guy up front, shame on me, and then had to deal with him for 3 months ending up with an inferior product. Because we are currently leasing out this property the photos I have are from one of the contractors that looked at the leaking shower. For some reason only one of those photos would download into my system so unfortunately we only have that one to share with you members. There were two others that shows damage in our master closet as it shares the wall with the shower. Another shows cracking of the grout on the shower bench.

We initially got him off the list and got him to come out and provide an estimate. His estimate was most reasonable and he was able to get started the quickest. We paid him for material over 11000 and he has since lost all communication does not return calls. He takes the money and then just walks away. I would never recommend this company and have learned a lesson dealing with this company.

HORRIBLE. J.Derek Fleming came out a few times to measure and check out our bathroom. I was asked to pay 50% up front for our bathroom remodel which we did. Derek's team came and did demo and put in tile on the floor and built the shower walls with tile. I at this point I was asked to pay the remaining funds and when I hesitated was total that Derek's team would not be able to move forward. I was told the project would be completed in 5 weeks, but that the team would be taking thanksgiving week off. When no one showed up after thanksgiving I called Derek with no calls being returned. After many voicemails and few emails I finally got an email saying he had made an account error and would need to delay our project but he promised to complete the work and just asked that we be patient with him. We worked with Angie's list to get Derek to return our calls and email and they could not get him to reply either. We even had Derek's workers come to our house asking if we had heard from Derek since they were not getting paid and Derek would also not return their calls. I would never recommend Derek to anyone, he has stolen our money and hasnt completed even half the work.

After James Derek Fleming, the representative (and purported owner) of Stonemasters of D/FW visited our house three times to discuss a master bathroom update, we provided funds in the amount of $5,625 on 10/17/15 as a 50% down-payment for the project. Our check was cashed on 10/19/15 and the job was scheduled to begin on 12/3/15 after we made our final material choices. Derek contacted us 11/30/15 and indicated that work would be delayed due to weather conditions; we accommodated this delay with no issue. After he did not contact us to reschedule the start date, we followed up on 12/4/15 when he replied that due to business conditions, our job would be delayed by “about a month or so.” At this time, we requested he return our funds until he was able to resume the job. Derek replied, “I am sorry about the current situation and I will return your funds as soon as I possibly can. . .” On 12/28/15, we made contact with Derek over the phone and discussed our hesitation to begin the project with his company given the various scheduling delays and that the commitment to return our funds hadn’t been met. During this conversation, he verbally stated he understood and would return our money. He indicated due to a billing error, which he was unable to identify, he no longer had our money and could not give a realistic timeline for its return. It was made very clear during this conversation that he needed to maintain consistent and regular communication regarding the return of our 50% down-payment of $5,625. He agreed. Since our last phone conversation on 12/28/15, voicemail messages have been left for Derek on 1/15/16, 1/28/16, 2/5/16, 2/16/16, 2/24/16 and 3/11/16; he has not returned any of my phone calls. I sent emails on 1/27/16 and 3/2/16 to discuss a payment plan to return our down-payment in installments. He agreed that 2/1/16 and 3/1/16 may be possible for a partial return, but he has not made any connection via email or voicemail since 1/28/16. As of 3/23/16, he has not returned any of our funds. As we approach the six-month mark since our check was cashed, no work has been performed and no communication has been made in nearly two months. It is unfortunate that at this time, we are left with no other option than to pursue all available action and recourse to recover the deposit. It is our strong recommendation that you consider another company for your remodel needs.

Stonemasters of DFW were hired for the installation of granite counter tops in the kitchen and two bathrooms. This job included removal of old counters, under mount sink, and included all plumbing and electrical work. They even reinstalled new faucets in the bathroom. The whole job took couple weeks but it was done very well and we are happy with the results. Derek provided advice on how we could save existing black splash tiles. He also went an extra mile and replaced a faulty faucet multiple times until it was done right. We would definitely recommend Stonemasters of DFW for any type of remodeling work involving the kitchen and bathroom.
They did a good job. They bickered with the plumbing company quite a bit. I had quite an issue between the two of them. The plumbers wouldn't do a certain work until this was done right. They made the other guys do it right twice. Everybody did a good job. It was a lot of work. The bath tub had to be torn out and they did a good job at a good price.

Arrived to do the plan on time.
Worked out a price on the same visit. I accepted!
This started out as a project so my MIL could get her walker into the ground level bathroom. The door size was increased from 24 Inches to 32 inches. To make more room in the bathroom, it was necessary to have the door open outward.
My wife did the actual acquisition of a compact sink, new toilet, grab bars, new 32 inch door etc. She also ordered a new medicine cabinet, storage cabinet, Bamboo flooring and worked day to day with the workmen.
The existing bathroom was gutted to the bare walls and floor.
The contractor then removed wallpaper, made the walls look like plaster to match the other walls in our house.
The contractor then painted the walls and installed all the items to make it a new bathroom.
Several workmen were involved in the remodel. They were all professional and courteous.
The remodel took about a week.
There was a minor problem with a small leak in the new sink drain. They promptly came back and corrected the problem.
The company owner came by daily to make sure all was going according to plan.
Pay close attention when the job is nearing completion. Make sure they don't get in a rush to complete the job. Point out any discrepancies.
I am completely satisfied with the job. It is difficult to remodel a half bath so that it is accessible to someone who uses a walker.

Currently I have a floor and a shower wall completed. Everything else was gutted and not completed. They were paid in full for the project, but have not completed the project. They are currently not returning our phone calls and haven't been here since 11/20/2015. The project started on 10/28/2015 and it was supposed to be a 5-week project, but we are going on 2 months now. I was told that I needed to pay for it in full or they couldn't move forward.

Stone masters provided great service from beginning to end. They arrived when they said they would be there. They involved us with the various stages in order to get our approvals, they tore out our old bathroom including a half wall that separated the toilet and the tub from the two sinks. This opened the bathroom up tremendously. They tore out the old tile, removed the toilet, and countertop. They were neat and tidy the whole way through, careful not to stir up dust and debris to other rooms.
Derek was very communicative and responsive when we had questions. Walter was a very professional foreman on the job and pleasant to work with. Stonemasters installed new granite countertops, sinks, new toilet, new tub, new tile on surround as well as on the floor, new paint, baseboards, and installed new fixtures, lighting, the whole thing.
It took about close to two weeks for completion. They thought of all the details and we would use this company again for future remodeling jobs.
It's hard to find reliable, professional remodeling companies that take as much pride in their work than Derek and his team. Being in the customer service industry, this goes a long way with me when choosing who to work with. We are very happy of the results and proud of our new bathroom.

Both Derek and his contractor Robert did a great job. Derek was very friendly and listened to our requests and concerns and provided professional and helpful feedback. Robert was the only contractor that we dealt with and we were consistently impressed with his knowledge, skill and great work ethic. Robert provided extremely helpful feedback as well throughout the entire process. He made sure to clean up every day before he left and consistently went over and above to ensure that the job got done correctly. We are very pleased with the results and will definitely work with Derek and his team (especially Robert) in the future.

Unfortunately, we had to file a complaint with Angies List because Stonemasters refused to pay any of $383.50 it cost us to have someone locate and repair a leak which ended up being from a poor solder job on the pipe Stonemasters installed in our shower update job we paid them to do. He continues to refuse to pay even a portion and he justifies this because we did not contact him first. As I stated previously, we thought the leak may have been coming from the roof and it became a process of elimination before finding the cause. I'm sure anyone would agree that it was logical to have the person we were paying locate the leak to go ahead and do the repair job. Derek is operating from his logic that since he gave us such a "good deal," he is justified in not taking financial responsibility for their poor workmanship. It blows my mind that he didn't even offer to share the cost.
Response from Stonemasters of DFW Ceramic Tile, Stone and more
"to start off with the scope of work is being misrepresented.there was mirror work done, there was granite countertops and plumbing and shower trim hookups in addition to the work described by customer.not bad for $5000.00.so why is that a c?i do not recall any issues with communication other than the customer ceased listening to me and gleaning all of the information from the big box construction retailer that was across the street and was painted orange.they will hereafter be referred to as h/d.this neatly brings me to the backer board.the concrete backer board that we used is a standard backer board sold by h/d.it was the floor person at h/d that convinced her that it needed a skim coat of red waterproofer.in my opinion, this was not needed,it gave the installation an additional materiel that was not needed, concrete backer board and thin set are both made of what?concrete!it is impervious and unaffected by water.red waterproofer was not needed.but what did we do?we skim coated it at my expense because we dont argue with customers.the stripe tile that was being used did not show up with the original order,so while my tile guy was there, customer went across the street to h/d and bought some tile to replace it.i do not remember a significant delay.i would agree with customer about the issue of the corners being cut incorrectly but again this was taken care of whilst we were waiting on the glass enclosure.this installer was new and didnt know what my expectations are.he does now.once again i would like to address the fact that the customer said her shower looks great and i know that her granite countertops do also.and yet i get a grade of c?also,i think it merits mention that at the customers request i changed the metal rail at the bottom of the mirrors.the customer never paid for that.there is no mention of that in her review.in summation,i think that our grades on price and quality should have been a or b.the customer said that in her review.i dont know how it is in oregon, but in texas its called talking out of both sides of your mouth.."

The Good:
BEAUTIFUL WORK!
Derek has and was always very good with communication which was mainly via email. He was very friendly and willing to work with you and your requests and needs.
The tile guy always cleaned up when he was done with work for the day.
Contractors used for glass install were very professional and quality work was done.
The faucet installer was very nice and did a great job.
The Neutral:
The project overall took about a month but if everyone coordinated or was working on one project 100% it would have taken about 1.5 weeks to complete. About 2 weeks of that time little to no work was done. I understand that most contractors work on multiple projects so things have to be coordinated as such.
The Bad:
Unfortunately, he really needs to get better contractors.
The tile guy would either show up late or not at all and I would have to contact Derek to see when and if he would ever show. The tile guy always had an excuse to why he was late.
The granite guy left and absolute mess of my bathrooms and used my toilet and didn't flush!
Getting anyone to come back out after work is done to fix or touch up things is impossible. I had to wind up doing everything myself, thanks to online searching!
Conclusion:
If some things were to improve or change then I would consider working with Derek again. I think it's a bit unfair to say that I would not work with him again but there isn't an option of "unsure".

Response from Stonemasters of DFW Ceramic Tile, Stone and more
"this is another review that basically has me rated as an "a"on quality and an "a"on price and then "c"on everything else.i would caution that the other grades are mainly based on subjective opinion[like how long a master bath should take, how many have you done?].i am not saying that the other grades are not important.i am saying that price and quality are the most important.now having said that,i want to deal with the issues,1]-my tile guy was late a couple of days and missed another in the first days of the project.he and i had a confrontation about this subject and it never happened again on this project or has happened since on any other job.my granite installer might be a different subject.i have had issues on more than one occasion with not cleaning properly and i do not intend to keep having these issues.i am going to draw the line on his personal toilet habits.if i had seen or knew that he or his helper had done this, they would have been fired on the spot.the problem i have is that there was other people in the house that day.i do not fire people based on assumption, the same type of assumption that this customer is engaging in.i also need to explain that i usually dont send people right away to take care of any minor issues right away,i usually wait a week to see if other problems crop up so that we can take care of everything at once.obviously, there are exceptions as in water leaks and such.my mistake here was that, according to her,i diagnosed the problem over the phone and she fixed it.i admit, she must be pretty handy but there were only three minor issues and she didnt want to wait so she fixed them herself.in the end ,whilst i agree with some things said,i believe this review is highly opinionated, petty and harsh. we as a company dont strive for "c"s and i dont think we deserved one here."

Fleming he came out and told us he couldn't start the work for 4 weeks, and they did. He said it to be a 5-7 day job, and it took 3 weeks, he had replaced our order but he said the company lost it, so we had to start over, waited 2 more days get materials. We were not informed, they never kept us informed, my wife had to stayed there and they never showed up. We never saw him after that first day, he has not contacted since the work has been completed, Robert did an excellent job putting the tile on and finishing up and putting the doors up. Losing paperwork and no communication were the biggest.
Response from Stonemasters of DFW Ceramic Tile, Stone and more
"the statement about never seeing me after the first day of work is a blatant lie.the supplier lost the tile order and the original installer refused to go back over to this job because of the customers abrasive nature.i had to bring robert in to finish.these were the complicating factors that caused the job to run long.i think it is also pertinent to add that this customer still owes me money.i thought it might be a nice gesture to just walk away from it,but this is how i am treated.i would never consider doing anything else for this customer.you may not like me and thats fine but robert worked a whole weekend to finish your project.dispicable!"

This job was not one of Derek's shinning stars. It started badly, went on for months and did not end very well. I will start with the Positive. Derek Showed up for our initial consultation as agreed. He was very positive and came across as knowledgeable and professional (except for the dirt he tracked through my bathroom on both his first visits). Although I cringed, I did not say anything to him, my fault it happened the second time. We agreed upon an amount, $16,000.00 and a start date. (we were supplying all fixtures, tiles, lights, shelves, etc.) This was a TOTAL re-do of a large Master Bath. It would include two slabs of granite. (we paid an additional $1500.00 for granite upgrade)

We discussed the specifics and that I was contemplating quartz. He highly recommended granite stating he owned the granite fabrication plant. I was thrilled to have what I thought would be an Expert at fabricating and installing my massive amounts of Granite. I had shown him my kitchen granite and what I was unhappy with. I asked if he would have left a job looking like that and he said no, he would in fact be able to fix the chipped seams in my kitchen granite (did not happen) wow, this had nothing to do with the bathroom job. I was impressed. At that point we also discussed doing a new backsplash in the kitchen. He said he would throw in the kitchen backsplash when the bathroom was completed. Another WoW, and that sealed the deal. We then realized we would have a giant piece of granite left from the tub opening and he agreed to make a sink top for our guest bath vanity. Once again, Wow, a free vanity top.

I think Derek is a good person and I liked him. I think this was the largest job he had ever done. The job started on January 26 and was mostly completed the first week of April. The start date was set in November. We travel a lot for business and the speed of the job and schedule was a huge factor. Derek was well aware of this. He told us it would be approximately 4weeks to complete the job. We planned an April vacation and business trips around the dates.

There were issues with his crew and communication was always non existent. The first worker showed up by himself on the first day. He did NOT come prepared to cover our floors or protect my home from all the dust and debris that was about to happen. To reach the master bath you must walk from the front door through my entire home, and bedroom. Around noon he advised us he was leaving and would be back the next day. We were shocked he only worked a few hours. We planned around this date for over two months and expected demolition all in one day. He claimed he needed to wait for the plumber to go any further, yet there was so much more demolition to be done. We advised Derek and told him we expected so much more to happen. The plumber showed up and hooked something up and said he would return to finish the next day after the shower pan was laid. There was no worker to install the shower pan!
The next day Derek told us the worker from day 1 had called in sick and that he would replace him. From there we had Derek come through with other tradesmen bidding on the painting, tiling and wood work, all while I now had no use of the bathroom in my bedroom. This was very poorly managed and very unprofessional. He hired Hector to do the shower pan, and all the tile work. He arrived with drop cloths to pave the way from the front door to the bathroom. He was excellent and really knew what he was doing. He was a pleasure to work with and have in my home. He was the only positive in this entire project.

After the pan was installed, two apprentice plumbers arrived at 7pm and had absolutely no idea what they were to do. They asked us where the center was for the faucet, how high it should be, where the pipes should be? They said they don?t know normally do this. I was amazed that no one knew what was supposed to happen with my $18,000 bathroom remodel. She shower faucet, bath faucet and sink faucets were all installed by all different workers. The Shower handle sticks out about 3? more than it should. The tub faucet does not have epoxy so when you touch it it moves. The vanity sinks were installed correctly with epoxy. This is how I know the tub is wrong!

Once the shower and tile were done, the painter began his job of retexturing and painting. He also did not show up with anything to cover our floors or protect any part of our home from the mess he was going to create. We sent him out to purchase brown paper to cover our floors. He did cover and tape it all down when he returned. Derek, as our GC should have been there all along the way making sure this was done from day 1. It was as if this was his first job. The painting and retexture took almost 3 weeks. There were two snow/ice days in the middle and of course no one works the day of an ice storm even if it's all melted by 10am. Derek said this was the norm. Keep this in mind if you have a winter project!

The job just went on and on. In fairness, there was one week we needed to be out of town. When we planned it, the job was supposed to be done. They could have worked Monday and Friday, but the week was a total loss. We also added a tiled floor that was not in the original scope. I'm sure Derek would say that put the job way behind, but Hector came and knocked it out in 3 days.

Do not Allow Derek to ?pick? your granite. All that means is that he will call and tell them to deliver the slabs. You will get whatever crap is in the yard. When he asked if we wanted to pick it ourselves or trust him to, we thought that would mean he would actually look at it and pick it out. He was truthful and told us he did NOT do that.

We waited almost two weeks for Derek to come back and make templates for tub deck and vanities. He did advise us that he was behind on granite because machinery was broke down. Granite installation was a JOKE. The granite was installed over a period of three weeks. It was not all cut at once and installed. The granite installers could care less what our granite looked like or how it was installed. There was an ?experienced? lead installer, a young kid that was on his phone most the time or another guy whose first day of work was my job. They were careless and should never be called professional installers. The first counter top for one master vanity was cut wrong, apparently due to misunderstood faxed in measurements . That piece was no good. I thought he might be able to use it for the guest bath, but they could not. They installed two pieces and left for the day. One of those pieces had to be re-done because it was totally un-level. They came back a few days later with the guest bath (free) top. One of the wall splash pieces was totally cracked thru and had to be removed and replaced. There was a giant crack through the entire top. I was told that was a normal fissure in the granite. I'm well aware of what fissures look like and this was not a fissure! Even if it were "normal", wouldn't a good Granite fabricator have laid out the granite and tried not to use this piece in such an obvious place? It looks horrible and everyone asks me if I know my bathroom counter is cracked! But, it was free! The rest of the granite went in piece by piece. Every Single Seam looks like it were cut with a steak knife. There are chips along every single cut and jo

"this is actually a job from last winter and i never knew of any of these issues about workmanship until now.i guess they have spent all of their time writing this exhaustive review.it is unfortunate that i was never given an opportunity to correct these issues,at least the ones that could be.i was never told.the theory advanced in the review that i chose the stone is untrue.also,i think it is apparent that because of the length and complexity of the review, [Member name removed] feels that everybody who comes into his house is incompetent.right away i lost my job superintendent because of [Member name removed] and the problems went on after that.i really believe that in the future, [Member name removed] should do these things himself so that he will be happier.at that point,he will only have himself to blame."

First of all let me say that I had been searching for months for someone to do my bathroom project. No one seemed quite right either because of price or just because I didn't have a "good" feeling about them. I trust my instinct. I found Stonemasters of DFW on Angie's List one evening while I was searching bathroom remodeling deals, so I went to their website to see what they were all about. I was super excited about what I found there and contacted Derek right away. We arranged a time for him to come out and take a look at my project. He was there a few days later to see my project and chat about what I had in mind. I was very comfortable and confident that he knew exactly what I wanted and would do a great job for me. I decided to hire Stonemasters right away, no hesitation. Derek suggested I buy the deal on Angie's list, so I did.
I was picky about the tile color that I wanted so Derek was on a mission to find the right tile samples for me. He did a good job of getting many shades of the blue and green that I had in mind, but I decided to go shopping for myself and bought the tile at Floor and Decor to save time (so no special ordering).
Once I had the tile in hand it was quick and easy to make an appointment for the installers to come out to the house and get to work on my project. Manny was the man doing the installation with his brother (another tile man) helping him. I can't say enough about these men and what a beautiful job they did for me. They completed the work in 2 days. One to demo, lay the floor tile and install the shower tile and the second day to grout. Not only were they fast but they did a stellar job, they were very respectful, careful, professional and cleaned up very nicely after their day was done. Manny asked me questions about what I wanted him to do when appropriate and he also gave me very good advice based on his years of experience (which I happily took). We ran into one problem with a bit of the accent tile (it had paper instead of mesh backing, pretty unusual I understand now) , but Derek had Manny come and take the mislaid tile out and install it again correctly and that fixed it perfectly. BTW, Derek was always very quick to respond to my questions and never let more than an hour go by before he got back to me.
I am an ecstatically happy customer and I could not love my new shower and floor any more then I do! I waited a very long time for this beauty and it was very much worth the wait! I will recommend Stonemasters of DFW to anyone who is wanting to remodel a bathroom or kitchen, have new tile or counter tops installed or have any other work done that that they excel in. I definitely found the best company to do my project and got a very fair price. Thank you Stonemasters and thank you Angie's List!
