The email thread below explains the issues as well as the contact with the provider to try and rectify the situation prior to submitting a negative rating. As of today (06/02/14) the debris is still in the back yard; I can send photos as well as a copy of the invoice if desired.
Sent to Jason on 05/23/14
Dear Jason,
We obviously disagree on what was said / not said, so I am going to go on what I absolutely know, i.e. the estimate (invoice) and the way that the service was provided.
The invoice (attached) does not state that the charge does not include removal of debris; nor does it list removal of debris as an extra charge. With that omission, the assumption is that removing the debris is included in the accepted estimate. The invoice does include estimates for other additional services (i.e. tree removal), so it is clearly understood by Chelsea that all services discussed (accepted or not) should be listed on the invoice. You state that the work was "done safely and neatly and without harm or damage to anyone or anything on your property"; I cannot agree with that statement. Sending an inexperienced person up a tree with only a
rope tied around his waist is not safe; rigging should have been installed and at the very least, he should have been wearing a harness.Spiking a living tree is known to cause damage to the tree. It has been years since I have seen any tree company spike a
tree that was not going to be removed, and had I known that spiking a tree is your practice, I would never have purchased the voucher.
I still expect you to come and remove the debris from my property at no additional charge; as far as I am concerned, that is non-negotiable.
Thank you,
(Member name removed)
From: "jasomw" <jasonw@sunrisetreeandlandscaping.com>
To: (member info removed)
Sent: Monday, May 19, 2014 10:53:28 PM
Subject: Re: Angie's List
Hi (Member name removed),
I do apologize that there was a delay in getting the work done, as you noted due to the heavy rains we were extremely busy and I do apologize that there was trouble getting a climber out to you. When we have emergency jobs (trees falling on houses/garages and such) our climbers have nearly round the clock schedules.
Chelsea did tell me that your husband explicitly stated that it was not in your budget to extend past the extra 150. You are correct when you say most companies take debris with them because they work it into the price. To my understanding it was repeated multiple times to your husband that in order to stay within your budget that we would not be taking any of the debris. Tree companies commonly offer to leave wood/debris for a cheaper price because it's less work. We usually take all debris and cleanup because it's more profit however we do have to pay fees to dump it at a commercial dump. We would never leave debris or wood unless the customer requests it due to lowering the price or because they want to use the wood. I'm sorry that you were under the impression that the wood was included but your husband made that decision the day of the estimate as I understand.
As far as the climbing situation it is to my knowledge that the climber that was there didn't have a waist rope large enough to fit the circumference of the tree but he did have all the necessary safety gear to spike properly. When another climber was freed up they
did bring him to get the work completed. I understand is not convenient for you with all the comings and goings and I do apologize.
All in all it sounds despite the shuffling of climbers and inconvenience, the work was done safely and neatly and without harm or damage to anyone or anything on your property which are the first and foremost important things. While I hear that ?you would like the
debris removed, because this seems to be a miscommunication between you and your husband and not a misstep on our part I cannot send workers out there to remove the debris gratis. However as Chelsea offered, I can reduce our normally $150 minimum dumping fee to $50 to cover the $50 dumping fee imposed on us at the commercial dump.
I am sorry that there was confusion and difficulties with your service. Please feel free to call to schedule a removal and we can get that taken care of for you.
Thanks,
Jason
From: (member info removed)
Sent: Monday, May 19, 2014 9:05 PM
To: jasomw
Subject: Re: Angie's List

Hello Jason,
Thank you for responding so quickly - we appreciate it.
After I purchased the voucher and made contact to schedule the work, the response to schedule an appointment was very quick. I will note that before I purchased the voucher, I checked out both your website and the reviews on Angie's List; based on that information, I had no reason to expect any issues or concerns.
The first appointment was scheduled for Friday, April 25; the plan was to review the work to be done and if a crew was available, to do the work. Chelsea did come that morning, walked the back yard with my husband and estimated that the work would cost an extra
$150; we agreed to have the work done. Chelsea stated that she would be back later in the day to do the work because she needed a climber to reach the branches; it turns out that the climber was not available, and the work was rescheduled. Due to the heavy rains, the work could not be rescheduled for another two weeks (May 9).On May 9, Chelsea showed up in a sedan with a young man
(I do not know his name); while she had chain saws in the trunk, they were far too small to use for the work that was needed. At some point, the young man climbed the large tree in the back by spiking, not wearing a hard hat and tied only with a rope around his waist (we have had enough tree work done to know that this was entirely inappropriate and unsafe). Chelsea and the young man decided that they needed a belt, and went to Harford County to get a belt. When Chelsea returned, it was with a truck (no chipper), and a climber who knew what he was doing. He managed to get the work done satisfactorily; but the story does not end here.I returned from work and saw that all of the tree limbs were still in a big pile in the back yard, and asked when they were going
to be removed. Chelsea stated that it would cost an extra $50 to do so (the estimate / invoice says nothing about an extra charge for removing debris); again, we have had a lot of tree work done and have never had to pay extra to have the debris removed.
So, 10 days later, there is still a large pile of debris (large logs and a pile of other limbs) in our back yard that needs to be removed (I have attached a file with photos). We had asked Chelsea to have it removed by the end of last week - that was not done, which is why I am contacting you.
The bottom line is that all of the debris needs to be removed ASAP this week. I prefer not to give a negative rating on Angie's List, but will do so if the debris is not removed.
I can be reached at (member info removed)
Thank you for your help,
(member name removed)
From: "jasomw" <jasonw@sunrisetreeandlandscaping.com>
To: (member info removed)
Sent: Monday, May 19, 2014 7:49:16 AM
Subject: Re: Angie's List
(Member name removed,)
I'm sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with your service.
