All I can say is that Kurt is the best contractor I have found in my 10 years on Oahu. Not only was he timely in responding but was punctual everyday. Kurts craftsmanship is second to none. Decided he didn’t like how one tile looked after completed and took it out even though we would have never noticed it. Kurt also install trim which was done with precision. Kurt is a breath of fresh air in a otherwise hit or miss contractor market.

Despite being a one man team, Kurt does and amazing job at getting results fast. He completed our big renovation in our 3000 sq ft home in 6 weeks. He is very professional, respectful, punctual and one of the nicest guys we’ve ever met. He has given us priceless advice and always tried to educate us on the whys and whats of a decision so that we can make a smart choice. We completely renovated our home and although we didn’t do any big structural changes, it is a complete transformation and feels like a different space with the exact Hawaiian modern vibe we were hoping for. We could not have such a beautiful comfortable space if it weren’t for Kurt. He helped us source quality but reasonably priced cabinets, flooring and fixtures as well as acted as general contractor for the plumber, electrician and marble counter installations. All of the subcontractors were professional and did great jobs. Kurt showed up on time as promised every single day, even on weekends, and had a goal and promise of what he would finish that day. It was very satisfying and exciting to see the progress made each day of Kurt’s hard work. Kurt takes a lot of pride in the craftsmanship and quality of his work and he didn’t stop until he knew we were happy with the end product. We can’t praise his work ethics, skills, professionalism and dedication to his clients happiness enough. We are very lucky to have had Kurt work on our house and it was honestly a pleasure having such a positive, supportive and caring contractor to work with. We love our new home and it wouldn’t have been this awesome without Kurt’s guidance and hard work.

Big renovation job done in a month. Lots of energy, lots of can-do. Lightening fast and professional flooring work, all by himself. Did a ton of extra small jobs for us too, from installing bathroom cabinets to fabricating a dishwasher cabinet. Also brought in a fantastic painter, plumber and electrician as needed. No problem was too big, very experienced and confident. Got the job done!

Perfect results for a small but complicated Instalation. Kurt's experience and expert guidance helped us select the appropriate material for our condo. He promptly arrives on schedule and worked to complete the job when prommised. Design and installation of floor tile, wall tile, hardwood flooring, custom shower, bathroom and kitchen cabinet and countertops... basically everything. Kurt ended up doing a total remodel of my entire house.

I contacted Kurt after reading reviews on Angie's List because I am fairly new to the island. I originally hired Kurt to replace my entire 1st floor with tile but I ended up having him do much more than that. . I noticed right off that Kurt takes a lot of pride in his work and he has tremendous attention to detail. We have walls with rounded corners and he cut the tile perfectly to fit around those corners. We later decided to put in base boards and he again did excellent work around the rounded corners of our walls. He is a very skilled craftsman and is meticulous in his work making sure every tile was laid properly. My project ended up morphing into a larger one as I discovered his many talents. He also did beautiful work on our back splash. He has a great design eye and made some suggestions that really enhanced our downstairs. I would highly recommend Kurt and I would hire him again for projects I may have in the future.

Kurt is a very skilled craftsman who has encountered every situation and knows the right way to do things. He helped every step of the way from design and material selection to final finishing. Kurt was prompt, patient, helpful in the choosing the type and color coordination of the tile. He will share his ideas but will ultimately leave the decision up to the homeowner.  He is relaiable and very neat in his workmanship.  His estimation for the labor cost and time to complete the project is very accurate.  It is very easy to communicate with him and always returns calls promptly. <br />

This is the third project that we hired Kurt Barthel for. He gutted most of the guest bathroom and replaced the drywall, installed new tile on shower tub area and new tile on the flooring. He replaced the vanity and had his plumber replace all the hardware for the tub/shower and vanity. Again, the project went perfectly. On time, on budget, and looks spectacular. This guy does great work and have already discussed a future project. Highly recommend without any reservations.

I contacted Kurt after reading reviews on Angie's List and having a few encounters with contractors from some of the major tile suppliers on the island (Home Depot/Lowes).  I scheduled an estimate with Kurt a few days after contacting him and he made measurements and suggestions about picking the tile, grout color, and gave me a timeline of how long the job would take.  I let Kurt know when the tile arrived and only 4 days later he started he job.  He has a lot of knowledge about how the tile will look when it is on the floor and that helped us make some decisions about the pattern, the wall color, and baseboard choice before he began.  We chose not to use a baseboard and the walls in the living room/kitchen have rounded corners.  Kurt cut the tiles to match the contour of the walls and the result was beyond what we expected.  The job, about 500 sq.ft., was done in approx. 5 days, he was on time every day, he cleaned the work area daily, his estimate was what he charged us, and we have had nothing but compliments on our floor since the job was done.  We are very happy with our investment in a new tile floor (replacing worn laminate and carpet) and will definitely use Kurt on our future renovations.  I hope our experience helps you. <br />

Kurt Bartheil is an artisan.  He tries his very best to attain perfection.  His demeanor is low key, but he is extremely detail oriented  He was very helpful in the planning stage in tile selection and had good suggestions on where to actually see some installations.  Seeing tile in a store or online is way different than seeing an actual installation.  Kurt was always prompt and on time and always did what he said he would do.  He works solo so that he can control the quality of work.  Finally, he worked within the condo association rules which can be cumbersome, and was very clean.  There was no damage to walls and doors and all debris was disposed of properly.  I was happy to obtain his name from Angie's List and felt comfortable hiring him after seeing his numerous "A" ratings.  He did an outstanding job for us!  We would definitely use him again. <br />

It went Great. Kurt again did a perfect job. He was always on time and on budget. Same goes for his electrical and plumbing team, on time, perfect job, and on budget. Again, my wife and I are totally happy with Kurt and his professionalism. I have already lined up two more projects with Kurt for later in the year. I do recommend if you are thinking about having Kurt do your remodel call him now. Kurt is a perfectionist. He does one thing at a time perfectly and then moves on. Kurt Barthel was recommended to us by a co-worker of my wife. I called Kurt to request he come over to our home and explained what we wanted and basically bid on a remodel of the bathroom. Kurt wasted no time on getting to our home the next day and we discussed all the details of what we wanted to do.  Kurt assessed all and we agreed on a price.  Kurt completely gutted the tub/shower and toilet area. He removed the tub and all the flooring. He rebuilt walls and installed new dry wall and hardie board. He removed the tub and all the flooring as well. He poured concrete on the shower floor and sealed it. It was in fact a totally gutted room. After all the prep work which was extensive he tiled the shower area , floor and walls. He prepped the remaining walls to be painted as I did that part myself. He had his plumber come over to completely redo the plumbing on the new stall shower and toilet. When Kurt came to the house to discuss tile installation, he was very prompt and courteous.  He measured everything, give us an estimate and a list of supplies that he would need.  He even recommended specific brands and the best stores to purchase them.  It was agreed at that time that we would remove all existing flooring (carpet, tile, linoleum) prior to his arrival to help decrease the cost.  The week prior to installation, Kurt came by the house a second time to answer some questions we had.  During what should have been a quick visit he took the time to help us cut all existing door trim to fit the tiles, determine the exact placement of a large mosaic medallion we had purchased for the entryway, and even left us tools to help us with removing our old flooring.  From the first day of the installation to the last he was always prompt, courteous and kind.  Every evening he cleaned up any construction mess made during the day.  He had no problems with us asking lots of questions and was always willing to explain things.  In fact, he asked us how we would be installing baseboards, made recommendations on the process, and even demonstrated the best technique in a small closet.  And best of all, the installation was completed a few days ahead of schedule.  We are very impressed with his quality of work and professionalism and will be using his services again in the near future.
