Signed contract on April 30, 2011 Contract stated that the lead time was 10-12 weeks; Cody completed 2 small projects (pull out trash compartment and reconfigured shelves) on 6-11-11. Cody returned in July with dishwasher panel and to remeasure cabinet for bathroom and to verify changes to bedroom shelf units (addition of built-in drawers); he explained that he was running behind due to excessive summer heat & no A/C in his shop, but he'd be in touch with me. "Fast forward" to October-bathroom cabinet was completed, and on Dec 21st, the shelves, our final project, was completed.

My husband and I were pleased with each finished project. We were not pleased with the length of time it took to get the job done. I realize that he was faced with several obstacles during the process, which was unfortunate. I can not recommend Cody for large projects...possibly small projects suit him better. At any rate, we feel fortunate that our jobs were completed. If you choose to hire Cody, be prepared to test your patience.
Response from TEXAS CUSTOM WOOD WORKS
"I am sorry you were not 100% happy with my services. However not once over the course of completing your many projects did mention your concern with the time. Except that you were ready when I was. If fact you stated several time that you understood about the circumstances and gave support in my situation. Yes I experienced many issues this past year and all out of my control. I did my best to keep everyone on schedule and keep them happy. You also failed to mention that I gave you a very deep discount for doing all of your projects at once as well as other incentives. I also allowed you to cancel one of your projects ($1,800) under contract well before the deadline date ever arrived no questions asked. You also failed to mention that you first requested splitting the projects into sections over time. Again yes I had many challenges through out the year that kept me from meeting my deadlines. Yes I struggled. But it did not just effect 1 customer it effected several. All said they understood but I guess only some actually did understand and truly cared. Not once were you not informed of the status and or estimated schedule for completing your projects. I kept everyone updated with the progress of their projects. Again I am sorry for the delays there were out of my control"

Cody was very responsive and punctual. He provided a very competitive price, and i did not seek additional bids. He told us that he would fit this small job in as his time and demands allowed. He gave us an 8 to 10 week delivery expectation, but he called about three weeks later to arrange a time to install the completed work. He exceeded my expectations on matching our 25 year old cabinet doors and he also matched the finish. I was amazed at the finished product. I would not hesitate to use his services again. He is a hard working person that loves to please his customers.

Cody met with us initially and listened to what we had in mind. He offered several options in the design process, helped us choose the best wood to match the existing cabinetry in the room, discussed the optimal width of each shelf across the room with structural support and esthetics in mind. Cody came back several times with stain samples until we were satisfied. The color and finish of the custom bookshelf unit is an excellent match. Cody also came back after the installation to touch up a small area of wall. We were very pleased with his work, would use him again, and would highly recommend his work to friends, family and Angie's List clients. He was very professional and prompt. He gave us an approximate timetable of progress in building the unit, and kept close to his estimate of time. He did not charge us extra for additional work required at installation because of slight irregularities in the wall.

Cody was excellent in terms of getting us an accurate bid in a timely manner and following up with the install on time too. The wood is sturdy and it all looks like it was part of the original room. I was not happy with a few things. The painting was not done well and new coat had to be applied after the install which means I can see brush strokes (as opposed to having a nice even spray paint finish). Also, while Cody is professional and comfortable to work with, the assistant he brought for the install was pretty sketchy. He forgot tools, didn't know what he was doing, and generally made me uncomfortable. Finally, we had asked for holes drilled in the unit so we could access the outlet in the wall (now inside the cabinet part). It wasn't until a couple days later when the paint was dry that we went to put the lamps in and realized they drilled a hole in the back of cabinet for the outlet, but not in the top of it to drop the cord down! While I take some responsibility for not noticing it myself, it was their job to know what all needs to be done to do the job right.

"I'm sorry you were not satisfied. Not sure why there was an issue with applying another coat of paint to your project as originally they were suppose to arrive unfinished and to be painted on site. The cabinets were not painted with a brush???. I'm not sure how my helper made you uncomfortable as he was only there for a few hours and hardly spoke to you and was by my side the entire time. The tool that was forgotten was actually my fault and it happens from time to time. I'm only human. I'm not sure why you would think he didn't know what he was doing as his job was to help move cabinets and watch tools while we unloaded in the front of your building and I parked my truck 1 mile down the road. He has worked for me for many years and have never had a issue or complaint. I cant honestly say if I promised you gromit holes or not for the top of the counter but either way those are always extras I provide to please a customer and never charge for them. Your job was scheduled more then 8 weeks out and it seems we both must have forgotten about them. However at no point and time have you contacted me about any of these issues. I would have been more then happy to come back and drill the holes for you if you would have just let me known. Not sure why you gave me a "B" on price as I gave you over a $500 discount on top of the original 10% initial discount to get with in your budget to do the job. Not sure why you would give me a "B" on punctuality. I always arrived downtown 1 hour or more a head of our time schedule to make sure I could find a place to park and walk to your building to be on time. Often was waiting in front for you to arrive home??? Not sure why you gave me a "B" on responsiveness when I always returned your call and email as soon as I received them and often waited by the phone or computer for a response. I have yet to understand how someone can give a bad grade to a company when they have not even brought it to their attention or given them the chance to make it right?"

It went very well. Cody worked with us to help us get as much as we could for the money we had available. With his skill, he works several weeks out, but the quality is superior. He's even pleasant to have around during installation.

Cody took excellent notes during the initial meeting and built the cabinets according to plan. If he had questions as to a particular preference, he emailed me immediately. Cody kept me updated consistently during the process and I never had to wonder what was happening next. If there was a delay due to a supplier issue, he confirmed with me that I was OK with it. The sales contract was very detailed, and my position in his busy schedule was provided up front. Prompt communication during the job was refreshing.

I found Cody on Angie's List. He had all "A" ratings and positive feedback. I emailed him and he responded that same evening. We set up a time for him to come out and give me an estimate. He arrived on time and spent several hours listening to what I needed and getting information from me about what I wanted. He took measurements and I showed him some pictures. He emailed me the estimate which I was very pleased with. He told me he had three jobs ahead of me and gave me a time frame of when he could start. I put half down as a deposit. I was pleased that he started several days ahead of when he originally told me he would start. He arrived and worked steadily and late into the night for two days. He put me in touch with his painter and I arranged for him to come out and paint the cabinets. Cody came back after the painting and put my hardware on (I wanted a specific kind and ordered it on the internet). Cody was very easy to work with and very reliable. I made some changes mid way through and he accommodated all my requests. He was very reasonable. I now have two walls with floor to ceiling built in shelves and cabinets. It has transformed my living room. I highly recommend Cody to everyone!!!

I found Cody here on Angie's List and found him to be very pleasant, knowledgeable, professional, and responsive. After dealing with other contractors who wouldn't call back, or follow up with an estimate, I found Cody's professionalism to be a breath of fresh air. For whatever reason, the other contractors would not want to do my project, which at first was only going to be a patio rebuild. However, once I called Cody, I had an appt set up for an estimate to be given promptly. Cody followed up with the estimate shortly thereafter, and I hired him. Just happy to finally find someone who would help and not treat my job as if it's too small for them. Well, Cody proceeded to give me numerous ideas on how the patio should be rebuilt. He emailed me pictures, he drew diagrams, he patiently explained everything I needed to know in order to make an intelligent decision. I have worked with other contractors and truly appreciated this aspect, as most say they will e-mail pictures, or follow up and they never do. Well, Cody performed the work, and did a great job, and I love looking at my patio. As for the rest of the work, I hired him because I was having difficulty with my other contractor. I was working on multiple projects at one time, and both of their schedules were freeing up at the same time. I didn't mean to schedule everything like that, but it sort of wound up like that. Well, I asked Cody if he would look at some of the kitchen cabinetry and lighting, and found his response and bid to be reasonable. I mostly just enjoyed his professionalism, as the other contractor I was using was getting annoyed with some of my requests. I decided to dump him in favor of Cody. He performed all the work as described, and did a great job. One thing he did help with was picking the recessed lighting. I was very overwhelmed about the process, and Cody took my hand and we went to Lowe's and he slowly explained my options, and took things out of boxes to demonstrate what the look would be. I was just willing to put something in the cart and go, but he wanted to make sure I understood what I was purchasing so that I would not be stuck with something I would not like. I liked that aspect of his work style, and would highly recommend. He also, always calls back, answers his phone, and is very organized. All in all, I love my new recessed lighting, cabinets (they look brand new), patio, and door. That was a last minute throw in, and he was happy to help. Thanks Cody!

The price was really reasonable. It was competitive with the other bids I got. It is outstanding quality and it is gorgeous. It is hand grooved. It's beautiful and goes up eight feet. He was very, very professional. He did exactly what he had to do. We would like him to do some shelves and cabinets in the bathroom.

My experience working with Cody was great. He returned my call right away, met with me on a Sunday evening to give me a quote, he sent me drawings via email, and we worked out all the details together after that. It was a very smooth process from start to finish. I was going for a modern look and he was really able to bring my vision to life. The kitchen looks great, thanks Cody! I am already working on a couple of other projects with him. If you are on the fence between a couple different companies, I would highly recommend you go with Texas Custom Wood Works, you will not be disappointed.

We found Cody (Texas Custom Wood Works) here on Angie's List and read his reviews and thought we would give him a try. Let me just tell you it is one of the better decisions Ive made. From the very beginning Cody was very responsive to any questions we had, and we had several. We communicated via email and phone. He was always prompt and on time to appointments, if not a little early. We had very particular requests as we wanted modern style kitchen cabinets, not like anything you would find a kitchen store around here. We told him exactly how we wanted it laid out, picked the wood type and the stain color. Cody got back to us in a few days to a week, cant remember exactly, with drawings and a quote for the whole kitchen. We sat down with him for about an hour and went over every detail of the drawings and the wood sample he brought with him. made a few changes here and there. Now we also had already bought a large commercial style sink, like what you would find in a restaurant kitchen, for our kitchen. This is a free standing stainless steel sink. I asked Cody to match the the legs of the cabinets, as they sit on legs without a kick plate at the bottom, to the sink. I told him where we got the sink from, and he said he would go and see about matching them. He quoted us on the whole kitchen and designed the whole thing but we went with just one half for now, we will be using Cody for the second half, just for our own budgetary reasons. His price was great, cheaper than anything else we had seen. He told us about a 4-6 week build time as he was a little backed up. On the day of the install I was at home and was able to watch the process. It was just Cody and his brother helping him install. The cabinets arrived wrapped well for protection, and they looked fabulous. He arrived about 10:30 or so and got right to work. They put the trim in first which he had pre-painted with the paint we gave him. He then installed the cabinets. There were only a couple snags in the whole process. The first had to do with and outlet in the wall, that he had missed on his measures. We decided to move the outlet to the other side of the stud so it would be behind the cabinet and not half behind and half not. They moved the outlet and patched the drywall in about 30 min. The second issue one of the doors on the cabinets had the grain going in the wrong direction. Cody said he would cut a new door and bring it by the next day, which he did and put it on in 5 min. The cabinets look absolutely fantastic. The quality of the craftsmanship is outstanding, beter than I could have imagined. The look reminds me of Henrybuilt cabinets, which if you have never seen them you should look them up as they are beautiful. The cabinets are solid plywood, with red oak facing. I highly recommend Texas Custom Wood Works. I will try and post some pictures if I can figure out how.

Our home was built in 1923, so it's always an experience trying to make improvements. The corners in our house are nowhere close to square. On top of having to build in an oddly shaped space, Cody had to match the routing on our original cabinet doors, which was a serious chore, since they no longer make the router bit for the particular pattern. But, he figured it out, and the doors are almost identical to the originals. Everything he did looks great, and he's a great guy... we couldn't be more pleased! We will definitely use him again.

This project was made very easy by this company. They were very very patient with our selections of color and on two separate occasions this company dropped of stain examples for us. It turned out very good for us because we now have the color we wanted. I give this company a A on everything except the quality. I give a B+ . There are a couple of small nail holes and some scratches on the inside of cabinet. Working with this company was a very good experience and for sure we would work with them again. Cody Dunham is a professional. He was on time and did what he said he would. I provided the door and hardware...except when we opened the hardware bag they had forgotten to include screws and bolts. Cody inventoried what he would need and using his time and truck picked up what was needed. He cleaned up the work area to what it was when he arrived. After seeing his work I contracted him to do some more. I would not hesitate to recommend him for finished wood working projects.

The experience went very well. Cody Dunham is very experienced with woodworking and cabinet making. He made good suggestions regarding my kitchen drawers and took into account the items that I already had in assessing the proper measurements. I was impressed by the fact that Cody suggested things that other folks with other companies told me could not be done. Also, I was impressed by the fact that Cody was willing to work with me so that I could stay within my budget.

Some confusion about what was expected and some confusion over the original bid and the final price
Response from TEXAS CUSTOM WOOD WORKS
"FINAL COST WAS THE SAME AMOUNT AGREED TO WHEN SIGNING CONTRACT. CUSTOMER CHANGED SIZE OF CABINETS AFTER INITIAL BID. CUSTOM ALSO DECIDED TO ADD DOORS AT LAST MIN WHICH CHANGED THE PRICE. I ONLY CHARGED HER HALF THE NORMAL COST FOR THE DOORS. I ADMIT I DID FORGET FROM OUR INITIAL MEETING THAT SHE WANTED POCKET DOORS. ONCE THIS WAS REALIZED I DID NOT CHARGE HER THE DIFFERENCE FOR THIS WHICH WAS $230 OUT OF MY POCKET. THE TOTAL PRICE WAS AGREED TOO BEFORE ANY WORK WAS STARTED AND CONTRACTS WERE SIGNED. THE AMOUNT ON THE CONTRACT WAS THE TOTAL AMOUNT CUSTOMER PAID. CUSTOMER ALSO HAD ME DO SOME OTHER WORK AFTER THIS JOB WAS SAID AND DONE AND I FIXED A KITCHEN DRAWER FOR HER FOR FREE. TIMES WERE NEVER SET EXACTLY FOR ARRIVAL JUST AFTER 7:30PM. I WAS WITH IN A 15 MIN WINDOW. CUSTOMER NEVER MENTIONED ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS AND SAID THEY WERE VERY HAPPY THAT EVERYTHING TURNED OUT GREAT."

Cody was very helpful in determining the overall design of the cabinet. He is very knowledgeable on the materials and time the project will require. Cody offered several options pertaining to the overall size and look of the cabinet and the cost each option would have on the finished product. Cody has a great attention to detail and the finished cabinet shows it! I am truly happy with the finished piece and will be hiring Cody in the near future for other wood working projects.
