Water heater went out on a Tuesday morning. Tex arrived Tuesday night, upon inspection indicated it needed to be replaced. Advised if we paid $500 up front he would deal with the warranty company and get faster response. Thursday night was advised he had the parts but did not confirm what time he would come on Friday. Left the customer waiting for a response. At 3pm on Friday was told he would be there by 6pm. He arrived at 7:30, had a broken part that he could not find a replacement at Lowe's. Advised he would be back Saturday morning at 8am. We were doubtful and pushed for a realistic time. He said 8am. He arrived around 5pm. No issue with the quality of work. Serious issue with time management. We used his services before to replace our garbage disposal and that was completed without an issue.

Tex arrived about an hour late due to having car trouble but he did call to notify me that he was running late. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and honest. He replaced the copper pipe on the dishwasher with a flexible hose and did preventive plumbing maintenance. I also purchased a one year plan offered for $100. I would hire him again.

He was recommended by my neighbor. I have nothing but bad things to say. I never met him before, he rings my doorbell, he's got a phone to his ear, and he says can you open the garage? I went okay, so I opened the garage door. That was at 3:30 when we had the appointment. And they look at it and they said okay, we'll get you ... also, this is Friday afternoon at 3:30. So they tell me how much it's gonna be - way over $1,000 - and I said, but I don't need that good of a ... they want a 50 gallon which is what I had so I said okay, 50 gallon but I don't need that top of the line thing; it's just me. "Well, this is all we do." And it's Friday afternoon, so I thought well, I guess it won't hurt to put a good one in, so I said okay. And they said we got to leave but we need the money ahead of time, and I said ... I was kind of dumbfounded when he said ... but I said well, okay. And I kind of felt because it was Friday afternoon and I would either have to have them or pay extra - the weekend's coming up. So I said okay so I gave him a check; he goes well we got to leave. He said we'll be back in just a little while, and I said okay. Well they didn't get back till 6:30 at night, it was already dark, this was in January sometime, it's freezing outside, I know it was cold and I appreciate that. But they came and they installed my water heater, which is a brand new one, it has two connections for the adjustment of the water. They didn't say one word about that. Now we haven't bought a new hot water heater for years; I mean, you know, they're good for a long time. Well I didn't know about that. They cut a pipe off, which was a drain pipe from the water heater to the outside, and just left everything. They broke ... we had an electric strip on the wall and they tore it off of ... I don't know how they did that. They broke my overhead door - garage door. I think they hit it with the hot water heater when they were undoing it, because I was opening and closing the garage door for them and it was fine. And then when they pulled out I tried to shut the garage door and it wouldn't shut. And so when I had the guy come out for the garage door, he goes, well somebody's hit this garage door. And then I knew immediately what happened because it was working fine when they were here. Oh, after they got the installation completed they go, "okay bye, we're going," and they didn't say one word about how it's adjusted, it needs adjusting; and I guess I was kind of naive thinking that they would at least tell me about something like that. So the next morning, I took a cold shower because it wasn't ... I know they hadn't even looked at the adjustments because they were way low. I know that once you read about it, they tell you not to have it over 110 or something, which is kind of not hot enough for most households I don't think. But anyway, so, but they were way past, way lower that that. And I thought, they didn't even look at this, and they were not adjusted, you know? Like I thought they might be in line with each other, the two different things or something. Anyway, they're gone from my life and I won't have them back in the house again. No, I didn't say anything about the garage door because I didn't know it was broken until they drove away, and then I thought once they drove away, what was I going to say? You broke my garage door and they they would say, no we didn't. And I thought, I'm not going to argue with them. So it cost me $70 extra dollars to do that. But I doubt very seriously a person who works like that is going to give me any satisfaction about something that I say they broke. That's the way I felt; so I thought, just save yourself the ... And he, the guy named Texas - his name is Texas - he's really kind of gruff. His associate that worked with him is the nicest guy, but it's Texas that owns the company. I don't know how the other guy is related in there. It was a freezing day - it was really cold that day and they had to work out in the garage. I looked up the hot water heater that they gave me and it was an expensive one, so probably a C for price. The quality of the product is fine, but the quality of their work is not. They came right on time, but they didn't stay, so they didn't leave here until like 9:00 at night because they didn't come back till after 6:30 or so. One of the workers was good and one was bad; one was really nice.

Mr. Lane responded to my late Sunday evening call within 15 minutes and stated he was on another job in progress but I would be next and would take about an two hours. However, he called back in one hour and said he was on his way and gave me a GPS estimated time of arrival of 30 minutes. He was at our home almost within a few minutes of that despite the time being 11:00PM. We anticipated someone tired and grumpy at that hour but he was very clean-cut, direct, yet courteous. In fact, he was working a commercial restaurant issue in Kerrville so we knew he was in demand.

He listened to our situation and immediately opened the clean out and it was full to the threads. We advised Van Delden pumped our septic for it's five year service and there were no problems and our drain field.

We have a long line between the house and the septic box (we are outside the city limits and house was built in the 80's) plus had a curved portion that routes the waste water almost 180 degrees. He first snaked the line and his snake hit some of the debris but the water barely moved. He then retrieved his video snake and locator sensor and saw our pipe was oddly curved but no issues or blockage.

I figured he was going to give up since it was so late but he said "No- I'm going to get this water drained so you can at least get a shower in." He used the sensor to get as close as he could before the line went under our deck and then asked for permission to dig a spot (in some pretty rocky soil and in the dark since we had no patio lights) and to tap a hole in the line. It was already close to midnight and he was sweating but never stopped working for a minute. He then ran the snake and within seconds the water dropped right away.

Where the last plumbers we hired to snake it out left it at that but Mr. Lane said the snake didn't feel right so he ran his video snake back down the hole and invited me to watch the screen as he had a hunch what the problem was. We got within about 10 feet of the box and he showed me that our waste line had a pretty severe 'belly' and you could see the line was compressed noticeably, most likely from a large, old oak tree that used to be in the vicinity.

When that was all done he said he has an excavation crew and could replace the line sometime during the week but we'd be better served having Van Delden or other septic company do it for peace of mind and considering the close proximity to the septic tank. By then it was almost 12:30AM.

While there are a lot of plumbers that do after-hours emergencies, my wife and I were amazed at his integrity, can-do attitude despite a long day with jobs scattered over several counties, the fact he was clean cut and professional, wrote up an estimate before even starting the work, and the fact he was so clearly tired but did the job fully and never up-charged us, didn't clear the drain and walk away. I told him we were grateful for the attention to detail and he said he'd rather have a good referral for a thorough job than trying to add charges to one. He also said, that he respects boundaries as some plumbers cross over into septic territory and vice versa and he said if we are happy with our septic company, it's best to stick with them (and we are).

In summary, it's nice to give a kudo to one of the good guys. We usually use Rittimann Plumbing for our non-emergency work but we know they are short-staffed and tend not to do after hour emergency calls. think Mr. Texas Lane (his actual name) and Texas Plumbing is outstanding and saved our sanity.

I don't submit reviews too fast but I've wanted to do this for over a week now.

I feel my fellow Angie's Listers would be very pleased working with Mr. Lane.

As far as price goes, that's technically out of our control and this price is $100 lower than the average price in the area, so we are proud of that as well. Great response time. Same day fix. Came on time and was considerate of the value of my time. ( worked around my work schedule) Was very straight forward about all charges with no pressure to spend additional money on preventitive services. I had a lot of questions, and it didn't seem to bother him to explain what was wrong and what it would take to fix the issue. Since I had researched what was wrong i knew what the most likely problems were. he mentioned many of the same thing and was able to rule them out before he began working. Saved a lot of time, the service team was quick, his team fixed the problem and cleaned up and was gone in a responsible amount of time. They left the work space clean and was very respectful of carpet and floors.

I struck gold when I found Texas Plumbing on Angie's List! This team was at my house several minutes before the scheduled arrival time of 8am, and stayed very late that evening to get all the issues completed so I wouldn't be without hot water or running water overnight. They found many issues they weren't expecting since my house is so old, but they worked through the obstacles and got everything fixed by the time they left. Tex explained everything to me in terms I could understand, and got all costs approved by me before the work was started. He found several pre-existing issues -- some I wasn't aware of and some that other plumbing companies mentioned but didn't offer to fix on the initial visit. This was the hardest working team I've ever had at my house in any capacity (including electrical, construction, painting, etc.). They were professional, friendly, and most importantly competent. After such a long day, they cleaned up and even took their water bottles and all the trash (cardboard boxes, etc.) with them instead of leaving it. I am so impressed that I am telling everyone I know to hire this company for any of your plumbing needs. You cannot go wrong with Texas Plumbing! I will be using them for all of my plumbing needs in the future.

"Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about your experience with Texas Plumbing. We understand that you have a very busy life, especially during this wonderful holiday season. We also would like to thank you for your patience, hospitality and the award worthy coffee you provided. Those little things go a long way with tired technicians especially on a job of this magnitude. We felt a sense of accomplishment after we completed this job as we felt many issues had been overlooked or avoided by previous companies. We take pride in our efficiency, our work and our communication abilities which make these things possible. We look forward to seeing you again hopefully on different terms of course. Again, thank you for your business."

It was on Memorial Day > a holiday for most people and businesses. We noticed our toilets weren't flushing, and sewer gas smells were starting to occur in our bathrooms. So, we started calling local plumbers for estimate quotes, informing them of our issue. Most of them wanted to charge extra for "emergency" service and/or "holiday" service. Most quotes were very expensive. We then remembered a plumber we had used a few months back, via a contractor we were using to remodel a bathroom. He had re-plumbed the shower water lines and drain line for the new shower remodel. We were please with him then (his professionalism, price, etc.), so we thought we'd give him a try for this job. He was available immediately, and offered a good price, and did NOT charge us for an "emergency" or "holiday". He also stuck around for quite a while, after repairing our drain, to answer numerous questions we had about other plumbing projects we were considering around our home. We are very pleased with him, and will definitely use him in the future.
Was asked if I wanted to be on the cheap or if I wanted to upgrade for long-term durability and use. I have no plans to sell my home so was interested in quality of materials used to manufacture the parts, e.g., not bronzed/chromed plastics, and that are proven to be reliable. It was also nice to be asked upfront what features were most important to us e.g., long neck or horizontal faucet; type of sprayer preferred, requirements for sink drain, and method to turn on/off the outside values (slide vs/ screw). All pricing was given with parts and labor inclusive so there was no question what I was expected to pay for each facet of repair considered. Faucet was ordered so was kept informed when it would be available and was contacted at that time to schedule a time to install. No delay from initial contact to project completion.
Extremely pleased with this provider.
