He took a 3400K deposit and took off. He called me a year later to threaten me because I live in Speedway and they will not issue him a permit. I was assured by Angie's List after he hurt several others, that he was in a "penalty box", and was no longer recommended. Did Angie lie about that also?

Job went great!

"From UGLY to beautiful and I mean it was UGLY. Concrete pads where separated and uneven so bad you couldn't get into the garage , not with a car anyway. I mean it was UGLY , ok long story short we made a mad rush to turn this property into paradise. Removed the old and in with new. Boom baby , cha ching and it was done. Homeowner was shocked , pleased, overwhelmed , speechless , breathless if they go together and not to mention happy. We thank you for giving us a chance to " Make Your Concrete Dreams Come True " God Bless, Hand shake."

We used Tony and crew in 2013 - he is a neighbor down the street and to know Tony and his wonderful family is to know you will be well taken care of. Tony answered any questions we had ahead of time promptly, We had some scheduling issues but only due to weather, and he was great at keeping us in the loop. I am happy to report that after three years the concrete still looked like new--virtually no cracks outside of the expansion joints, a beautiful finish texture and after years of driving on a half gravel, half concrete driveway that sloped TOWARDS the house I was just thrilled to have something that looked this nice...our driveway was one of the only ones that faced the road so the nice broom wave finish pattern just added to curb appeal. Loved the work, but not sure what I like more--the concrete or the man behind the mission. Thanks brother for great work! Hope to get to use you at the new place.

"Such a great report of your experience with The Concrete Man and yes I strive to please. We were able to transform the neighborhood with style and detail. This homeowner was very knowledgeable of what we were doing and how that made things just that easier. As a business owner I ask that ppl understand that we are in business to gain your business. I'm looking forward to a great 2017 as I close the season with some good reports and some bad ones I do apologize to. Thx homeowner , Merry Christmas handshake."

I am happy with the result. There was an equipment issue that caused the job to take longer than anticipated, but Tony and his crew did a good job in working around that. The entire job was done in one day. To my pleasant surprise, the next day, Tony was back adding fill dirt along the edges of the new concrete, a task that I thought I would need to do myself.

Tony's service and friendliness are exceptional. He and his crew tore out our old driveway and replaced with a brand new concrete driveway in 2 days. He's our Concrete Man because he offers a great product at an affordable price, takes great pride in his work, and completes the job with great professionalism and attention to detail. Highly recommended!

"I will work for you any day of the week at the drop of a dime. It's amazing the opportunity I receive and the doors that get open when you following the lord. Some ppl judge me when I make a mistake , but not always compliment me on my success. When all I ask is help me help me , help you . Something like that right.? Let's be fair to each and respect one another. We did this driveway that a contractor had started and left with no positive return. It was a mess he started it and it seem created a bigger problem. We came in tore out the old driveway and place a beautiful swirl pattern that just lite up the neighborhood. Beside that it was on the corner which has given many interested customers. I thank you customer for trusting in us and giving us a chance to " Make Your Concrete Dreams Come True " . Hand shake , God bless."

The front porch slab went ok, although we had to follow up with Tony a few weeks later to come back and remove the braces he had installed to the porch roof and wrought iron supports. The backyard sidewalk is a whole other story. We particularly pointed out to Tony that our backyard goes downhill, and we wanted the sidewalk to conform to the ground level because of the way water drains into our yard from downspouts and our driveway. His team worked quickly to put together the wooden molds for the sidewalk. Since we believed they were the experts, we didn't question what they were doing, although I pointed out, again, that the sidewalk needed to go downhill toward the back gate and asked if they didn't need to dig out some dirt to achieve that. Tony said they would do the sidewalk correctly. After everything was poured, we went out to look at the result and saw that the surface did not go downhill, but in fact the sidewalk had been made level (and above ground!). Furthermore, we couldn't open the doors to our garden shed because the sidewalk was so high. Tony was able to quickly move some of the concrete away from the shed doors, but we were still afraid that it would be difficult when the ground froze and shifted. Bottom line was we were unhappy with the sidewalk and we told him so. We said we wanted him to take it out, so we could do it over. When Tony followed up to get the final payment, we talked a couple of times about our problems with the sidewalk. We told him to take the sidewalk out, but he just kept asking for his money (all the while carrying on about how he he needed the money to take care of his family). I was finally tired of arguing with him and we agreed that I would pay the balance less a $200. credit (which my wife is still angry about). In the end, we paid someone else to remove the sidewalk and install a new concrete sidewalk to our specifications. We would just also like to say that we don't like that Tony uses his Christianity as a sales pitch.
Response from The Concrete Man
"Hey thx for the report first of all. The grade of the driveway is what I took off of ( like always ) allowing me to properly slope the water to the yard. Homeowner was not understanding the process and after the concrete was about to be finished he order us to step the concrete down lower then yard grade. We weren't finish yet with the concrete and homeowner thought we were going to leave concrete so the shed door wouldn't open. We check things as we go while concrete is still wet. After talking with homeowner we agreed to just take 200 off of bid and it would be fine he agreed . There was no problem with the finish or slope and why would you put the sidewalk lower then the grade. With bad , good or even negative experience I still love my Angie's list customers. Praise God"

The concrete work initially looked great but by Fall, the surface began scalding, flaking, and peeling off in thin layers approximately 1/4" in depth. I'm a Project Manager with an Environmental Investigation and Remediation company with 30 years of experience. Many of my co-workers are Licensed Engineers with geotechnical/construction experience. I hire contractors to install remediation systems at contaminated properties on a regular basis. The engineers and contractors I've had inspect the work said The Concrete Man used a wet concrete mix and overworked the pad during the finishing process. This caused water to rise to the surface during the finishing process and created the thin layer that is now peeling off. Solution = rip it all out and start over. I contacted Mr. Johnson and he claimed his warranty doesn't cover this problem and refused to accept blame. I informed Mr. Johnson I showed photos of his work to several Licensed Geotechnical Engineers and Contractors I work with and they all stated he overworked the concrete during the finishing process and should have known the minute he saw the water (or cream as they call it), rise to the surface during finishing. Mr. Johnson stated I could take him to Small Claims, file complaints with the BBB, get letters signed by Licensed Engineers backing my claim, use sites like Angies List to let others know about his choice to not stand behind his own written warranty. He said he wouldnt pay me if he lost in court, did not appear concerned about the Bad Press or the $1,000's of of projects he Will Not be hired to do now because of my complaint. All over $1,600 of work he could have repaired in 1-2 days. The concrete deck continues to fall apart. Even my leaf blower removes thin flakes of concrete to this day. Its only a matter of time now before I will have to hire another contractor to do the job the Right Way.

"I understand your frustration and see from your lengthy complaint that you are mad. Your job was done over two years ago and now you come foward to drag my name in the dirt. What ever happen to the initial report from you to Angie'[Member Name Removed] list ? As you stated , Quote " that the work initially looked great " That'[Member Name Removed] right nobody ever read , seen it or heard of you that'[Member Name Removed] because you didn't post it. It meant nothing to you , but as for me it meant EVERYTHING . The minute something goes wrong we complain so fast. I might have missed jobs because you didn't post your initial report of "My Great Work" ( did you think of that ) , but I'm not going to miss jobs because of your complaint now. You were supposed to place a report after the job was done , didn't happen now understand my frustration. I gave you a discount, hand dug , wheelbarrow concrete , set drain , spray sealed and actually gave you more sqft then what you payed for. I took pride , displayed professional workmanship , respected you without complaining about a 1,600 dollar job must companies wouldn't touch. but I'm the bad guy. Your team of experts opinions may be as good as your word saying that you would place a report for me. I'm done!!!!!!!! call the big company and watch them disrespect your request of a small job and they will refer you to me because they ( small jobs ) mean something to me. Have a blessed evening and I'm very sorry to all other Angie'[Member Name Removed] list members reading this."

Workers worked hard all day, did a professional job, on two occasions stayed after dark to finish task. All work was done well. Everyone was friendly. Communications were great, I was kept informed on what to expect and what I wanted done was in the estimate and done correctly. Never had a problem reaching the owner by phone and he was present to see that the work was done right and met our every expectation. We are very satisfied with the job that was done.

Once we could get good weather for three day with not too much rain before doing the work it was clock work. Demolition on Tuesday and installation of foundation boards and leveling and tamping of foundation we were ready for the pour on Wednesday morning. Started pouring around 10:30 and had the pour complete a little after noon. His finishers work until about 4, put in the correct amount of joints both vertical and horizontal and applied a broom finish. Tony put on the seal coat on Wednesday afternoon and was back on Thursday morning with top soil to fill in the edges. Minimal disruption to yard was done. My original drive was 42 years old and I know that this will outlast the original because it was done correctly with proper joints. I highly recommend Tony and will use him again if and when my patio needs to be replaced. He install a curb on the back of the turn around at no additional cost as a safety precaution, something that I asked if could be done. Final cost was about $7.20 per sq foot. This included all demo work, demolition of old drive, hauling away of old concrete, additional sub gravel (10 yards), 4000psi concrete with fiber, proper jointing with broom finish (my request..he can do anything you want), seal coat and top soil fill. No litter, no debris and a great crew. Very pleased with the quality of work and Tony was great to work with. Did everything he said he would and more. Use Tony and you will get an excellent result,

"Wow , the neighborhood has become my subdivision with work everywhere. I love the ideal when ppl go by and watch you work they could be your next customer. That was exactly how it went we were passing out cards left and right. We tore out the complete old driveway hauled it away. We then brought in a good stone base compacted it and poured concrete. Our stress joint were laid out according to the best layout with measurements. Sraight broomed it and spray sealed it. After completion the final touch of topsoil locked in the deal. Praise God for another satisfied customer that helped us work. Thx for allowing us a chance to " Make Your Concrete Dreams Come True " Hand shake, Praise God."

Tony is not only the owner of the company he is an honest man, hard worker and an artist. He does what he says and if you take his lead you will end up with a beautiful driveway and sidewalk that is the envy of the neighborhood. Don't rush him to pour concrete when it's too wet, too hot or raining. He wants to do a good job and if you let him you won't be disappointed. Once your concrete is done follow his instructions to the letter and you will wind up with a great result. My wife and I couldn't have been happier with Tony and his team. The end result was so impressive one of the neighbors down the street hired Tony to do his driveway and I'm sure others will do the same. Thanks Tony!

Tony was very friendly and responsive in setting up the work. I was impressed by his Angie's List reviews and how quickly he was able to mobilize. The install seemed to go fine until they crew left and I noticed the driveway was crooked (12 inches off on each side, the angle started 40 feet from the end of the drive). Tony will tell you it was a miscommunication on my part, but lining the drive with the street apron should be self explanatory. Tony would not admit fault pr replace four times to remedy the issue. After numerous guilt trips by Tony seeking "his" money, I eventually agreed to allow him to partially remedied the issue by removing the final tile and angling it to match the apron for an extra $250. The driveway is now functional, but still crooked. Even this weekend a neighbor pointed it out. A month after the work was performed deep cracks developed through the entire 5 inch slab. This is likely due to improper site prep, and possibly installing in cold weather. Four out of the ten tiles are now cracked and the cracks are growing with each rain. Very disappointing given I was willing to work with him on a compromise on the crooked issue. Overall I believe Tony is doing what he can to support his family, but this kind of sloppy work will only cost him in the end.

Tony and his crew were great to work with. We had a hard time finding a contractor during the fall last year - I don't know if they were really "too busy", or our job was just too small. So, we decided to start looking while there was still snow on the ground this winter. Tony was very accommodating to our schedule and made sure to get to our house for an estimate quickly. The estimate was comparable to others we had received, and we went with Tony due to his reputation and responsiveness.
We kept in touch via text message, which we really appreciated. Tony was quick to text us back whenever we had questions. We agreed that we needed to be notified the evening before work would commence, realizing that volatile spring weather makes it tough to schedule dates in advance. When we got a clear day, Tony let us know, and he and his crew showed up at a reasonable time in the morning, and completed the job by mid-afternoon. The job site was clean and we were happy with the experience.
We were very pleased with the level of service. And, now that the tarps have been removed and we can drive on the driveway, we think it looks GREAT and it's so nice to have a smooth driveway again.
I'll definitely contact Concrete Man the next time I need concrete work, and will recommend him without hesitation.
Tour Out old concrete garage floor and put in new concrete. Tony damaged drywall in our garage that punched a large hole in our drywall into the bedroom. After Tony indicated that he would fix the damage he never did come back to do the repairs. We had a company look at in and turns out we had to have the entire wall replaced for $1900.00. Tony since has never replied to our request to reimburse us for the $1900 damage that he caused. I would never do business with Tony or this company ever again!
"WOW !!!!!! What an over exaggerated , disrespected , not true post that probably hurt their fingers , soul and daily living after pressing send that I have to defend now. Two sides to every story and they ( me 2 ) say the customer is always right. Not the story this time as I have showed true professionalism , dedication , care and proper workmanship not to mention patience. We came and done everything promised. Now some 1 1/2 year later I get this. Homeowner wasn't even an Angie's List member he was referred from a friend that still give me work. . The best way for him to slander my name I guess would be to join and talk bad. I'd imagine without a doubt my work was very worthy of a good report ,but no we didn't get that for reasons of it didn't matter once the work was done and a discount was giving for signing the contract. :( The homeowner mentioned that the patio during cold ( freezing ) temperature will not let him open his patio door due to freeze and thaw. Blaming me . .. Why ? That could have caused a crack as well. I can't control how much frost Indiana gets. Which it seems from the date we had the big freeze that winter. I have never disrespected any of my customers and if I have done anything wrong I have tried to fix the situation. Homeowner allowed us to cross over his driveway knowing that he was interested in a estimate to fix his driveway next year. I also was never approached with a clean up bill. When I leave a job site it will be clean. Homeowner stated that he has reached out to several Angie's list member with other complaints trying to really make this situation even worse , but I have nothing here to hide. I'm doing the best I can and no business is perfect. My Christianity isn't the problem it's ppl thinking I'm perfect because I'm a Christian. Never will I fall short of defending who I am today a Better man , Husband , Dad , and still under construction. For a person to judge who I am as a Christian makes me think who they are as a person. Being careful on this touchy subject I must refrain myself. If I ask you to place a report on my company don't wait till something happens and make it convenient for you. It's open business that we help each other. God Bless"
