THE MOLD DETECTIVE

They were not good at all.  The lady on the phone told me to make sure I told the workers when they got there that there was mold in two separate rooms.  I think it was because they were trying to make more money off of the situation. 

He did a good job and I was very happy.  He's a great guy and I would use him again.

I had a roof leak in a rental house and the Tenant did not report in time so mold developed as the result. Tenant then secured her own mold inspection and alleged existence of all kinds of mold. I found Ron in Angies List and asked him for help. He offered to review the report for free initially and gave me his professional opinion. After the remediation company finished their remediation job, I hired Ron to do exit inspection. He did and found problems and guided the remediation company to make their job perfect. It took extra time but the result was well worth the delay in time. After the remediation, I needed to find someone to make repairs. I obtained two estimates and Ron referred a friend of his to give me another estimate which was by far the best. I went with his friend and the job was perfect for a very reasonable price. All in all, Ron and his friend made a very very challenging situation a lot more tolerable. Thank God for Ron!

Ron was absolutely wonderful and immediately allayed any fears I had concerning the mold remediation. When I first called him, he spent a considerable amount of time explaining about mold and his protocol in examining a site. After explaining that he uses the EPA guidelines in his recommendations for remediation, I knew I had the right man for my needs. He completely examined the affected area, took lab samples and sent me his very detailed preliminary report containing the treatment recommendations and a separate report with the lab results. Because this was for a rental unit with two small children within the family of occupants, I knew I had to be thorough and careful in my treatment approach. Ron gave me complete confidence in moving forward with a treatment plan. He very generously offered to guide the workmen I had hired to do the job so that the treatment would be done properly. I not only took him up on his offer, but arranged to have final lab testing done after treatment to make sure there was nothing left to cause future problems. Ron is completely professional, very knowledgeable and most generous with his time and professional support. He will be my only go to man for mold analysis and treatment recommendations. Highly recommend! ***UPDATE*** 1/17/11 When work was finally commenced on the property Ron had done testing on 1/7/11, the contractor thought he found another potential mold area behind the wall where the water damage had originated. Anxiously and in a near panic, I contacted Ron on Sunday 1/16/11 for his guidance on how to approach the problem. Ron guided the workman on what to do by phone, and then about an hour later came out to take a lab sample which ultimately came back clean. No mold was found behind the wall, by the way. All this on a football playoff Sunday! Ron is so awesomely superior in his service that he blows away the competition. He not only saved me thousands over a bid I had received from a mold remediation company for the job, but gave superlative support through the entire process. Before you spend thousands on a suspected mold remediation project, give Ron a call first. You will get an HONEST evaluation of your problem that just may save you thousands without tearing apart your house, but if it turns out that this is necessary - and he'll give you the no bull assessment - you can rest assured that Ron will give you outstanding guidance through the process to a clean finish.

I have been working with Ron McProud since around 2004 when he found extensive mold in my home after heavy rains led to water penetration. Ron identified the scope of damage, specified the protocol for repair and monitored a third party mold remediation contractor to make sure that they fully-remediated. He issued a report that gave me (and the eventual buyer of the house) complete comfort that the mold had been remediated. At my next home, Ron found mold in our air conditioning return vent and again specified the correct scope of repair (which led to a significant savings, because the water remediation contractor was attempting to perform more work than required). He again provided expert advice regarding what furniture to keep, what to dispose, how to clean, etc. When we moved again to another house and had a blackwater flood from the downstairs bathroom, there was no question that we would call Ron. He came out, tested the area and this time (thankfully!) found no mold at all. It was good to knowo that we have Ron as a resource. In fact, I gave his name to the association of a new 50 unit condo project that was having mold issues, and he quickly assessed the problem and provided a cost-effective solution, reducing the anxiety of the new homeowners who had moved into the project. He was very knowledgeable. He came out, and he knew what needed to be done. He was very thorough. He was also professional. The price was reasonable. Based on the other bids I got, it was about average. He showed up on time.

He did not open up any walls and did a preliminary scan with a device that he had. He concluded that we do not have any mold problems. He gave us tips on prevention and talked to us about we can do for our dry rot issues. The testing was less invasive than I thought it would be.

We can't say enough wonderful things about Ron. He spent over an hour with us, going through the house. He explained how mold works and put our minds at ease (we had been told by another mold company that we had mold inside the house. Ron found none.) He went into the converted garage and immediately knew there was mold (he really is a detective). He smelled the air and tested the walls. Everything he told us was correct. There was black mold under the floor boards and on two walls. He told us exactly how to get rid of the mold and then he came back FOR FREE again to evaluate the situation. When we offered to pay, he refused. Honestly, I wish we had more mold just so I could hire Ron and pay him for his services. Okay, maybe I don't wish we had mold, but I love Ron- he's trustworthy, smart and well worth any money spent.

Overall, the project went great. He has been there for us throughout this project as well as consulting with us on any other mold or moisture related problems we have had in our house. Our first encounter with Ron was when we suspected mold in our bedroom and bathroom. He came highly recommended by a friend of ours. From the beginning, he was honest and upfront about what we needed to do and stayed very involved throughout the remediation process in our bedroom and bathroom. We have continually consulted with him on other potential problems throughout our house and he has helped us to prevent further mold problems by being proactive and repairing things before they have turned into larger problems (mold).
