It went amazingly. Mark is a fantastic worker, and he spent weekends driving up and doing a remarkable job of finishing. He gave us an estimate up front and was very willing to work with our schedule, and then held to that. The most remarkable thing about Mark though, is his personality and attention to detail. Finishing work takes a very detail-oriented person, and he had the experience to make that work go quickly. In addition, he was willing to talk us through the process so that we understood what was going on and even learned how to lay a little wall tile ourselves for future projects! He also went above and beyond, helping us to hang a duct hood and make a few decisions about how to hide some ducting. And when we weren't sure about what would look best, he was ready with a recommendation that we were more than happy to take - and every recommendation ended up looking beautiful. As well as putting up the subway tile back splash, he created a surround for the window and some of the doorways that needed new trim. So he's got carpentry skills in addition to the fine detail and finishing work. I couldn't be happier with our decision to hire Mark. He's worth every cent if you want the job done right the first time. His ability to do whatever is needed to finish the job, and do it right, makes him a valuable person to have helping you out.

Overall, the project went very well. Mark was great to work with - he totally got the vision for the bathroom update. The work involved moving plumbing, moving electrical, replacing a window, replacing the tub, retiling the shower, retiling the floor, putting up drywall, installing a new countertop Travis is a wizard with a tile saw, and I must say that the quality and workmanship; is unmatched. While the bulk of the work was being performed, Mark & Travis were right on point - it was great to see progress being made every day. They were also totally respectful of the living space and in general, great guys. If there's a sour note in this symphony, it's that the last 5% of the job (installing the window, minor finishing touches) took about as long to complete - 4-5 weeks - as the major work did. The project started in July 2015 and wrapped up in early October, though the bathroom was totally functional (i.e. 95% done) by Labor Day. After Labor Day it was difficult to get in contact with Mark and schedule the final work; a situation in which I think any customer/contractor might find themselves in at the end of a project, as I imagine he had other jobs to ramp up and manage during that time.

The job went very well. Mark showed up early every day. He has a lot of good ideas and is very meticulous with a great eye for detail. He also found places to save us money along the way.
We hope to have more work done next year and we will definitely be calling Mark for that.

I don't usually write reviews online, but in this situation I cannot help myself. I was blown away by Mark's responsiveness and work ethic. I venture to say that Mark is faster, smarter, more efficient, and more detail-oriented than most any contractor. I was in a desperate situation (had to fire another contractor for unfortunate reasons and NEEDED our only tub replaced and bathroom tiled so my fiancé could use it to recover from surgery in a few days). Mark problem-solved quickly, told me to buy a new tub, and came over Friday at 5 after his regular work day to help me get the tub replaced in under 2 hours. After asking his wife first (classy), he offered to work over the weekend to get the job done. We worked side by side to knock out the bathroom in 2 very long days. Being a new home owner, I was jazzed to learn how to tile and Mark was an excellent leader and teacher. Honestly, I could go on and on. This guy is for real. He's professional, skilled, and efficient as all get out. I'm sure he isn't perfect, but I think you'd be very hard pressed to find a better skilled or more enjoyable contractor in the area.
Response from The Renovation Company
"Thank you for the review. It was a fun weekend, despite the long work days. You were a lot of fun to work with. I am very glad that you were able to get your bathroom functional and was honored that you asked me to help. Sincerely Mark."

We hired Fine Finish (Mark) to design and build a 2-car attached garage with partially finished space overhead, including a small finished office.
It's hard to list all the ways Mark and Travis went above and beyond during our garage addition project. First, they worked through some of the worst weather an Oregon winter has to offer. While most of Portland was crippled due to flooding, Mark and Travis were hauling shingles up a 2-story ladder and installing our roof. When they were planning the gutter installation, they noticed that our existing gutters were still full of oak leaves. So they cleaned the gutters. They were especially patient with our 18 month-old son, who affectionately referred to them as the ?guys? and took a keen interest in everything they did.
Mark anticipated future design aspects that we hadn?t thought of like leaving space and wiring in the garage for a central HVAC
system. He asked insightful questions about future plans to make sure our money was spent wisely, now and in the future. Even during the design phase, Mark was very transparent about different cost-saving options and associated tradeoffs.
We expected that once the work started, we would mostly be dealing with subcontractors. To our surprise, only the foundation work, gutters, and garage door installation were sub-contracted. Mark and Travis did all of the framing and finish work themselves. As a result, the quality of our addition is noticeably superior to that of our original home.
If you want someone to hire an army of people to throw your project together as quickly as possible, look elsewhere. If you want the attention to detail of a craftsman and an honest, no-nonsense interaction with someone who takes pride in his work and has your best interests at heart, talk to Mark. We?re glad we did and we?ll definitely be back in the future.

Mark was very easy to work with and accommodating, given the unusual requirements of the project. I purchased their special offer and then hired Fine Finish for two additional weekends to complete the work. The framing required installation of a large and very heavy framing beams. Fine Finish was able to get these installed.
Other than a few minor glitches, everything went well. They showed up on time, have the required equipment, and kept good communication. I would hire them again.

I am getting ready for a new kitchen and am acting as an owner contractor, so needed a lot of little things done that a general contractor (like Mark) would normally oversee. Great communication with owner Mark prior to job; he made recs for other contractors I have hired. Day of, there was a little scheduling mix-up, but, soon remedied. Mark and Travis quickly pulled out my old cabinets in great shape so they can go to Rebuilding Center. Then after this was done, Travis took over for the rest of the weekend. He was organized, capable, efficient and thorough, checking with me frequently to make sure projects were meeting my expectations. Both he and Mark frequently said "We just want you to be happy" which is a position I sincerely wish everyone in my life would take! When things came up, as they invariably do, solutions were quickly found, with various outcomes clearly explained. When I originally outlined my project for Mark, he estimated that my do list would exceed the 16 hours I contracted for and this was indeed the case. I plan to finish this project with them. As a single woman, I sometimes feel patronized or, occasionally, have had contractors try to take advantage of my presumed ignorance. I never once felt that these two were anything but respectful, courteous, and desirous of meeting fully my expectations. I would not hesitate to hire them again. I wish my budget would have allowed me to let them manage the whole project!
It went great. Mark fit me into his schedule at the last second. Travis got to the house early and worked quickly. He was able to preserve the cabinets as I requested for later reuse. Would use them again in a heartbeat.
Overall, this job was basically all done by us coordinating with the subcontractors, who were all very nice. The owner who we hired however was disorganized, rarely around, never did any kind of inspection on the work done by the subs. Tried to sell us a window that we couldn't install because it wouldn't have been to code, then after we got the new one ordered and installed, he left the old one on the side of our house for weeks until we said we were going to take it to the dump...overall, the job looks pretty good, but a lot of little issue we had to have another contractor fix to finish it.
Mark and crew were great. Unlike several other contractors we tried to contact, Mark was quick to answer his phone and always available for questions. His attentiveness and responsiveness, along with a price point within our budget, was ultimately the deciding factor to go with Fine Finish. He did a great job of wrangling sub-contractors to take care of drywall, flooring, electrical, and custom closet doors. The project took a little longer than we had hoped (but when isn't that true?), but in the end we are extremely pleased with the final product.
Fine Finish impressed us from the first meeting. Mark provided excellent ideas and drew out some plans while we sat down with him on his computer program, so we could see what things would look like. They were about 2 weeks out on estimates, but Mark referred us to his cabinet builder to work with in the mean time, and he (Cliff) was great.
Once the cabinet budget was set, the estimate came through within about a week, a few days after the initial timeline, but Mark was communicative throughout and let us know work on the estimate and plans was progressing. The budget came in over budget, so Mark let us know what things we could help with, and provided some other ideas to get within a design we loved, with the cabinet line we wanted, and a budget we could live with.
I work from home, and from what I could see, the project ran smoothly. There was some dust and noise during the demo, but the team screened off the area so it didn't come into the rest of the house. Mark arrived on site daily, did quality checks, progress reports with his team and provided us with weekly updates.
The cabinets, countertop and backsplash all work so well together the visual effect is stunning. Friends love hanging around the island (which is a new addition), and we love the extra space.
Our kitchen looks fabulous and we are thrilled with it.

Mark immediately answered his phone (not very many contractors do that). Since he was in the area, he came by a couple of hours later and gave me an estimate (best and worst case). A few days later, a carpenter with many years experience began work on the opening. He was able to move the walls just slightly so now the opening is plumb. Only took a couple of hours to do the job. He cleaned up afterwards, and now we are really to do the door installations.
I hired Fine Finish to fix a leak in my master bedroom after a neighbor recommended them. They were able to fit me in with in a couple of days, and worked a Saturday to make that happen for us.
The crew started to remove the trim around the suspect window, and reveal that the flashing had holes in it from its installation which is how water was getting into the house. The crew showed me the flashing and explained the problem, so I knew exactly what they were doing to fix the issue that had been installed incorrectly. The job was completed in one day. We have had some heavy rain since, but no repeat of the leak.
The owner and staff were responsive, competent, and reliable. They took the time to listen to my concerns, fitting me into their schedule on the weekend and made sure that I was in the loop at all times as to what fix was needed. I would highly recommend them for home maintenance or upgrade
They were very responsive to my needs. I needed to have the improvements in place before I moved into the Condo and they were able to accommodate my schedule and budget. ?Their crew was polite, well groomed, and completed the work well. After the job was complete, Mark the owner walked the job with me to make sure I was happy. ?I had used this provider before when living in Canby and they are a great team to work with.

It was a horrible experience. I bought the deal and they sent me an email saying that they would contact me in the next 2-3 days. I never heard from them so I called them and left messages and they never got back with me. They finally got back to me and the work did not get done until at least 2 months after I bought the deal. They made a decision to not seal the tile before they grouted the tile. They tried and tried to clean it but they could not get it off and instead they left me with directions on how to clean it. I spent hours of my own time trying to clean it. There was one corner that was done poorly. I was able to get the owner out and he agreed with me on the issues but instead of him doing the job he sent the same person back out to do the job that did it incorrectly the first time. The communication with them was really bad. About 2 months after the job was completed I noticed that the caulking needs to be replaced as it is cracking and pulling away. They did a bad job with the detail. When the same guy was sent back out to do the job, the grout was noticeably darker and did not match the rest of the job. They also left too big of holes for the electrical outlets and I had to get custom plates to cover those. I contacted them about this issue and I never heard from them. I am just going to find someone else to fix the issues. They led me to believe that the guy who did the tile work was a long time employee of the company but this turned out to be his first tile job that he had done for this company and it was unsupervised.
Response from The Renovation Company
"We deeply regret the poor experience this member had. Thankfully, such experiences are rare and we strive to learn from each and every project. After investigation on the circumstances of how a member was left with grout on their tile, we determined the crew member's work ethic was not satisfactory and we terminated this individual (he did not return to fix the work as the member reported.) The member reported being very happy with the fix and commented on how good the work looked. We take failures in customer service and sub-standard work standards very seriously - we don't tolerate it and we don't expect our customers to either. We have even incorporated this specific experience in our staffing selection process, and training program. The greatest assurance our customers have is that we will stand by them and our work and fix any issues that may arise, even if it is year after the work was done. This gives us a very real incentive to get the work done right first time, but remodeling is a human business and sometimes remedies are needed. This member found additional issues with the caulk months after the installation, but we were not made aware of this to be able to remedy this before this review. Upon the comment on scheduling, prompt scheduling in high demand summer months can be tricky. The response to the tile "Big Deal" was overwhelming and in retrospect we should not have run this in such high demand months. As a result, we asked Angie's List to pull the deal as soon as we were aware this was an option. Customers that had some flexibility in when they could do the work were able to scheduled more promptly than those that had a more restricted date set. We aim to improve from every experience - this one is no different. We hope we have learned everything we can from this and wish the member all the best with her future home improvements."

I have lived in this house for 25 years, and the only project I truly feared was siding. I have made LOTS of changes to the property over time, but always stopped short of siding. This was a scary project, but I signed-up because of Fine Finish Remodeling's reputation on Angie's list, etc. Also, the siding REALLY needed to be replaced -- in some areas, it was practically held together by paint. Other exterior improvements (roof, front door and garage door) were being done by other contractors, during the same time period.

-- Mark Stevens is owner / contractor of Fine Finish Remodeling. He did an excellent job of communicating and moving this project along, and referring out to others as needed. The supervisor, Kevin Dunsworth was great, and the house shows that.

-- Delays happened, because they do. The contractor had some issues. The weather was sometimes lousy. PARR lumber delivered some of the materials to somewhere else, which stopped work for about a week. Holidays happened. People had illnesses. Siding work stopped while the roof was repaired and replaced (2 days). ETC. In general, I was impressed to watch the changes take shape. I believe it all moved along as quickly as it could.

--I was part of the problem too. Two different garage door companies had volunteered their opinion that I could have one BIG garage door, rather than 2 smaller doors, if I wanted to do that. It would be no problem, according to them. I talked to Mark, about this, and he told me what could happen if the garage door men were wrong, and recommended I consult a structural engineer first. He gave me a name; I called; and the short version is a huge new beam was needed. It took 6 men to lift that into place. The final garage door outcome is perfect. Many thanks to Mark for coordinating the extra work my super-sized garage door required.

--Logistically, the siding was removed and replaced from sides and back of house first, leaving the street appearance somewhat intact until the end. Hardie Plank siding comes with color, but the trim is just primed, so my family did a lot of painting in our garage, and other locations. Kevin was kind enough to give warning when there was trim to paint for an inside angle, since that would have been nasty to do after it was installed. I had one area outside the master bedroom that had always looked strange, for the way the old trim and siding met under the eaves. I pointed that out, and Kevin fixed it with the new trim and siding.

--When the house was finished, it was slightly wider than it used to be, sufficiently that the downspouts no longer fit. Mark gave me the names of area gutter companies, and the first one came right out and made new downspouts and cleaned the gutters too for a great price.

--The house exterior is done, and it looks great-- and the street noises are much quieter, and odd drafts are gone. My scary project turned out to be a good experience with a happy outcome.
