The reinstallation of the tile was not done well at all. The shower base was not installed

correctly (not cemented in) and squeaked immediately. From the poor tile reinstallation, water seeped though

and caused damage to our kitchen ceiling. The shower door was not reinstalled correctly and hung down on the hinges. All

in all a terrible result.

"I warrant my labor for 90 days! It has taken you TEN YEARS to become unhappy with the work? I am sorry, but YOUR WARRANTY WAS OVER exactly TEN YEARS AGO! No follow up was ever requested during the warranty period, or at ANY TIME, for that matter. All material warranties (paper work) was given to you at the completion of the job and would have been covered by the manufacturer had you discovered a problem with them within their allotted time frames."

My experience was terrible.

"I don't know you from Adam! You need to quit doing drugs, because I have never done any work for you in my life! It's no wander you are having a bad day, you don't even know who supposedly did some work for you! And Angies list wanders why I won't advertise with them......Jeesh! Start screening your reviewers Angie's List! I noticed that you still have the Florida reviewer on my companies reviews 3 months after you said you would remove it. You were told that it was BOGUS but still have it on the internet defaming my company! And you wander why I won't pay my bill! Quit allowing these FAKE REVIEWS to ruin peoples lives by putting lies on the internet! Does this [member name removed] work for Angies List? I think I 'll have my lawyer look into this!"

We were impressed with Mike because of his overall knowledge and preference for doing the job right instead of just cosmetically repairing issues. He had some personal issues and had to reschedule the first day, but he called and kept us informed and the rest of the job he was very prompt. He worked hard and efficiently for the three days he was here. The work was very good and he knows what he's doing. He cleaned up after himself and the work was completed satisfacorily. We had a minor problem with needing to wipe down the grout one additional time and also were not thrilled with the access panels he provided but feel that was more a lack of communication on our part not telling him exactly what we wanted.

I tried to clean it myself at first. I did an area about 5' x 10' and it was too hard. I tried Pinesol with a brush, then bathroom cleaner, scrubbing over and over to remove it. People said "just power wash it", but when I blasted it with my hose up-close and full force, it didn't phase it, so I knew it needed more than that. Mike seemed confident with his own time-developed cleaning solution that he could get it all off, so we agreed and he started right on time at 7:30 am, the next day (to my delight). He worked hard and fast to beat the heat. It got up to 95 degrees that day and was already hot. He finished by noon and it was really clean! He did a very thorough job. It was worth it to me after I saw how hard I would be to clean it myself. It only took him 4 1/2 hours (I think he said he had $147 in the chemicals?) and there was no trip charge. There is 10% off for first time customers which he said was already figured into the quote. He really prefers cash at completion in which I complied. He is set up for charge cards but had forgotten what he needed for it that day. He did everything as promised including the price. I was pleasantly surprised that he could get it all so clean. He said he should have taken before and after pictures. I didn't know if he could really do all that, in the beginning, but he seemed knowledgeable and confident in his ability when he gave the estimate the day before. He was friendly and pleasant through to the finish and very professional.

Long story short - We paid Mike a lot of money to do projects around our home and we were left with a broken contact for our house alarm, ten pots of destroyed flowers, dead decaying birds in our walls, and a window that we paid to have repaired that has not been touched! He has hung up on us, will not return our calls, and has not resolved the issues! Here is what happened... We got off to a great start - Mike was nice and seemed trustworthy. His partner Tommy was also nice. I shared with my friends how I was excited to find a good handyman. The problems came with a series of unfortunate events occurred and Mike refused to resolve my concerns. 1) A small metal piece of the house alarm contact is missing from a window he repaired. Now I am unable to arm my home. My husband travels each week and being pregnant and caring for our 1 year old son - I would like to get the security from a service that we pay an expensive monthly fee for. The cost to get someone from ADT out to fix it is a minimum of $111. 2) They sprayed the mildew cleaner that they cleaned the exterior of my home with all over my flowers - it destroyed 10 pots of new & expensive flowers! They had spots all over them! He was only willing to "buy" the two worst flower pots from me. 3) I asked Mike if he would be sure to remove the birds from inside the holes before sealing them up and he told me he would. Mike did not share this with the man doing the work and he patched up over a baby bird nest. The baby birds died and left a horrendous stench in my toddler's bedroom. 4) When we went through the checklist from the proposal before I gave final payment I specifically asked if they repaired the upstairs window and Mike told me they did. Later when I went up to look at it the door was still locked (we lock to keep my son out) and I realized they never even went in that room! Then I looked at the window and it has not been touched! When my husband asked Mike about the window he said that it didn't really need to be done but he just threw that one in for free so he was not going to give us any money back! My proposal is not itemized it is just a list of projects and a total price. He could have skipped out on any part of it and claimed that it was "thrown in there." This is not okay!

THE WORK WAS GOOD OVERALL. HOWEVER, HE QUOTED THE PRICE OF $240, AND THEN CHARGED $500 WHEN WE GOT THE BILL. WE GOT HIS NAME FROM A RETAILER WE DO BUSINESS WITH, SO WE CALLED TO LET THEM KNOW ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCE WITH HIM. THE OWNER OF RESIDENTIAL HANDYMAN CALLED US AFTER LEARNING OF OUR COMPLAINT AND THREATENED MY WIFE, HE SAID HE WOULD SUE US. WE WOULD LIKE HIM TO PROVIDE A FAIR BILL, OR AT LEAST PROVIDE JUSTIFICATION FOR THE ADDITIONAL CHARGES. HE DID ADJUST THE BILL BY $80, SO WE PAID $420, BUT THAT IS STILL WAY OVER HIS ORIGINAL ESTIMATE AND HE HAS NOT PROVIDED ANY JUSTIFICATION OF THE CHARGES. I WOULD EVEN BE WILLING TO PAY THE EXTRA $80 BACK TO HIM IF HE CAN SHOW ME WHY THE COST WAS INCURRED OVER HIS ORIGINAL ESTIMATE.
Response from THE RESIDENTIAL HANDYMAN
"THE CUSTOMER WAS GIVEN A PRICE TO REPLACE ABOUT HALF OF THE TRIM ON CHIMNEY. WHILE REMOVING THE AGREED ON TRIM WORK, ANTS WERE DISCOVERED AND THE WOOD WAS ROTTEN ALL THE WAY UP THE CHIMNEY. THIS WAS BROUGHT TO THE HOMEOWNER''S ATTENTION, AND AUTHORIZATION WAS GIVEN TO DO THE OTHER HALF OF TRIM, DOUBLING THE PRICE. THE CUSTOMER EVEN WENT TO GET THE MATERIAL TO REPLACE IT WHILE WE WORKED. THE MRS. OF THE HOUSE SPECIFICALLY AUTHORIZED THE EXTRA COST AND WORK, THEN REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE CREW''S TRAVEL TIME OF $80 EVEN AFTER SHE HAD BEEN INFORMED AND SIGNED THE AGREEMENT BEFOREHAND ON A TIME AND MATERIAL BASIS, INCLUDING TRAVEL TIME, EXCEPTING THESE COSTS. THIS WHOLE INCIDENT WAS WITNESSED BY TWO PEOPLE ON THE JOB. CAULKING AND PAINTING ALL THE WAY UP 40 FT WAS ADDED TO THE JOB BY THE MRS., AND OUT OF COURTESY WAS COMPLETED, BUT WAS NOT PART OF ORIGINAL WORK ORDER, THUS ADDING TO THE ORIGINAL TIME AND COST. THIS WAS ALL CONVEYED TO THE MRS. AND APPROVED BY SAME. I AM STILL OWED $80.00!"
