They were very professional, punctual, worked in a timely manner and cleaned up after themselves before leaving the job site every day.
The worker came and brought someone else with him - I think it was his family. He ran out of gas for the machine he was using and asked for money to go get some more gas. I chose not to give him money. He said he would come back the next day to finish the job but never did. I was never able to connect with the company and Angie's List refunded me. The worker was a nice man although.

It was okay. Our house was built in 1990 and so the type of siding that I have is not easy to find. So we had to go to several places to look for something that is similar. At first he kept calling that he couldn't come and it was okay with me because I wasn't really in a hurry. The quality of their work was good.

The problem was that I had purchased 4 hours, but did not have 4 hours of work. I asked them to do some interior painting, which turned out good, and the price they added on was kind of high.

They never came for the service. There was a message on our phone that they couldn’t come within the first six months and the deal expired. The service was not rendered and we lost the money.

Overall, it was good. It took us a while to get things scheduled, but once we started, it went pretty well. Mo was very easy to work with and came when he said he would, with a only a few late starts. They all worked hard to get things right.

I don't remember when the Big Deal was offered, but I know that they were very busy and couldn't start until July. There were some rain days and some days where they said it was too hot to paint and the paint wouldn't do well in the heat. Long story short, I wrote him the final check on December 10, 2011. This was the $799 for exterior painting offer and the end cost was $2400.
Mo is a very personable man and I think he has good contract painters. I just think that he got too busy and got stretched out and some other jobs suffered because of it. I wasn't necessarily in a hurry, but around September, I told him I'd like to wind it up. It seems to me that July-December is a significant stretch of time. It could be that I needed to be a better manager and given him specific time frames, but I always try to work with contractors if I'm not in a time crunch.
I would say they did a good to adequate job on the exterior of the house and I would probably use him again. I'd just be more of a manager.
I had purchased a coupon for this comapny's services, and it had a time limit within which any work could be done. When I called the company, the earliest date they could send someone was almost 2 months later. That was not great but worse was to come. When the company's representative came out to look at exactly what work needed to be done I pointed out what I'd ideally like to get done, keeping in mind the time limit. So I went from most important (gutters and washing outside of house) to least important (driveway and pool deck to be cleaned).
When the worker showed up, he came in his own car with his family (including small children) who ended up waiting for him in our driveway while he single-handedly tried to do all of the work. As a result, part of everything got done - gutters in the front but not back (one of which apparently was so full that with literally the next heavy rain, water made its way under the roof shingles and leaked into the house - exactly why I had wanted the gutters to be cleaned in the first place!), part of the brick was washed but not the chimenys or even all of the walls, the driveway was partially cleaned and unevenly so, and he took a stab at cleaning the pool deck.
I felt somewhat sorry for the young man doing all that work, because he worked hard, but he clearly had not been told in what order of priority to do work in. I had told the rep that if not everything on my wish list got done, it would be okay because there was a time limit,as long as things were done in order of priority. I was gone on and off for a good part of that day and saw him only intermittently, and thus was not able to set him straight. When I came back, he and his family had left and the work was mediocre at best.
I don't remember exactly how much I paid for the service, but figured that since it was a coupon for work done at about half off, I also got work done at about half off.

I called "These Guys Paint and Remodel" because they were running a $799 exterior painting special on Angie's List, and because their Angie's List reviews were very good (at that time). [Here's a tip - If a company has been with Angie's list for many years, but only has a handful of reviews, be suspicious. A lot of people don't say anything at all if they don't have something nice to say.]

I couldn't buy the Angie's List deal because my square footage was larger than the offer, and because I needed more than just pressure wash and paint. I also needed trim replaced due to rot and squirrel damage, and soffit vents added.

I had concerns because Mo lives in Conroe, and I'm in west Houston, but he assured me he had crews working all over the city, so that was not a problem. He showed up as promised in early March to give me a quote. He made a good first impression, and his price seemed fair, so I wrote him a down payment check, and we agreed a start date. I had some urgency to get the work completed, as I was coordinating this job with other work I was having done on the house as well. Mo assured me he could meet my time deadlines, which was another reason I hired him.

Mo called and changed the start date several times. When his crew finally did start, it was with only an hour's notice that they were coming. They didn't finish that day, and had to return the next. This caused problems, as I then had Mo's crew and a roofing crew here at the same time - a scenario I had planned to avoid. As a result, there were words between the two crews and things were tense and confusing. Mo and his crew left without notice - without finishing, without cleaning up, and without giving me an opportunity to check the work while they were still here. I didn't realize I needed to be standing outside watching constantly.

It was difficult to schedule the rest of the work, as Mo constantly called last minute to change. My contract with Mo had a completion date that was not met. Mo stated that he had run a couple of Angie's List Big Deals that received a greater response than he anticipated, so he was backed up. However, I was not one of the Big Deal customers, so I wondered why he even quoted my job if he couldn't handle it because of his Big Deal offer. It left me feeling Mo was neither competent nor honest.

Mo's carpenter crew was great. They did a good job replacing rotted and damaged wood trim with hardiplank, and making the new soffit vents match the old. There were no mistakes in cutting, no wasted materials, and the finish was as expected. The work wasn't done on time, but it was done very well.

Mo said he had an employee quit, and that employee stole equipment when he left. As a result Mo always had to borrow both of my ladders and other tools to work on my house. Mo rents a pressure washer, and rescheduled pressure washing several times because he couldn't get the rental when he needed. He showed up very late one afternoon to pressure wash, and washed about an hour before he ran out of gas and quit. He washed the driveway, the chimney, and the painted gables of my house. He said I should get my brand new roof checked, as there were loose shingles around the chimney. The roofing company said Mo made those areas loose with his improper pressure washing. Mo never pressure washed the brick sides of the house. He said he would come back and finish. He still hasn't.

Mo pressure washed the painted areas of the house to prepare them for painting. But he never scraped the areas that needed scraping. Mo just painted over the loose paint that didn't come off with the pressure washer. When I told him that was unacceptable, he told me he didn't see the problem. So I got up and scraped and painted it myself, and then he said he didn't understand that was what I was complaining about, or he would have fixed it. I told him the entire east gable needed to be scraped and painted. He said after he went to the Dominican Republic for a 3 week vacation in mid-April, that he would come back and finish. He still hasn't.

My lap and gap siding had caulk that was deteriorating, pulling away from the house, and in many areas was moldy. Mo and his crew just caulked over the old caulk. So the entire prep to paint the house (not including carpentry) was to pressure wash the old paint and caulk over other problems. There was no scraping. There was no plastic cover or taping - literally, he never used a single piece of plastic or tape. There was no paint prep beyond pressure washing. As a result of no prep, a fair amount of paint got on the brick. And on the sidewalk. And on the landscaping. And on the sprinklers.

About 99% of the painting was done with a paint sprayer. However, Mo doesn't properly use a paint sprayer. I have lap and gap siding. He walked along and sprayed as he went. But he only painted the side he saw. He never walked back the other way and painted the other side of the gaps. So the laps are painted, but not the gaps. And the setting on the sprayer was obviously incorrect, as the paint coverage was inadequate. If you stand across the yard and look at my house, it looks painted. But if you stand next to the siding, you can see the old cream color showing through the new white paint. It obviously needs another coat.

On the new carpentry, no priming was done before painting. So the color of the wood shows through the misting of paint. And some sides of the new carpentry don't even have a misting of paint because Mo didn't paint all sides.

I don't know what Mo uses to clean his hands, brushes and paint sprayer, but whatever it was kills grass. This was in mid-April. It's now late June and those patches are still dead and it appears they are not coming back. So I will have to get my yard guy to remove them and put in some new grass.

And while Mo was cleaning, he got caulk all over the hose, which does not clean off. He also got caulk on the ladder, the faucet, and in the grass. So I have dead brown grass with white caulk mixed in. My monkey grass and shrubs are misted white. And so are my raised bed sprinklers. It's just lovely - NOT!

One more thing. Mo can't estimate how much paint is needed. I was to provide the paint, as it was not included in his quote. He had me buy double the amount needed to do the trim. And half what was needed to paint the house. I can give away the extra trim paint - custom color so it can't be returned. But I had to run out twice mid-job to go buy more paint. I certainly didn't want to be the hold up to delay the job even further than Mo delayed it. But no one needs this kind of stress. And because he can't estimate paint, my job ended up costing me more than he led me to believe. Even if Mo had done the job properly, it wasn't done as cheaply as other quotes I got because I had to buy a lot more paint than he estimated.

Mo paints like Moe - one of the Three Stooges. Actually, I think if the Three Stooges had done the job, it would have been better. Painting without adequate preparation is called time and money thrown down the drain.

I am a difficult position now. I didn't want the work done during the hottest time of the year, but the work isn't done. So I will have to wait until fall, and hire someone else to come and paint and pressure wash, as I still need that work done after spending $2800 plus the cost of paint to do it. The next company I hire will be bonded and insured.

Mo did give me contacts to get my gate welded for a good price, and to get new gutters and downspouts installed for a reasonable price. And he installed a set of shutters without charging me extra - although one is not level. Saving me $200-$300 dollars on other work does not come close to making up for what I went through with Mo.

Mo asked me to make a payment of several hundred dollars mid-job in cash! He said he had forgotten his ATM card and need to pay his workers that day. He was not

This was a Big Deal Offer which I purchased on March 29th, 2011 The company called me up shortly after I purchased the Big Deal to make an appointment. But I had a conflict on that day. The Big Deal offer overwhelmed this small company. The owner, Mo, still tried to help with my schedule. After 3-4 calls, he sent his employee, Fredie, to do the job. Fredie did an excellent job of pressure washing sidewalks, driveway, the whole exterior of the house (bricks and sidings) and fence. He worked for 6 hours and completed the work on time. This was a great deal.

Initial mistake: I allowed that I was not in a great rush. Asked to be moved up on priority list when I was getting no response even to an estimate (3 days after our 1st conversation). Discovered he had over a 100 jobs from Angies advertisements and was going on vacation following my job. One crew to do all that work. Did not meet dates or times agreed to. Total mis-communication about expectations. Be sure you go over in exact detail what you expect from him. Leave nothing to assumption. Do not assume that he will do a professional job unless you clearly state every expectation and then follow-up to ensure it is done to your requirements. Work was non-professional. Sanded sheetrock ceiling without covering furniture or ceiling fan. No cleanup afterwards. Tracked paint out hall and on front door. Said nothing about coming back to do cleanup. When I called the afternoon after completion (the day before he left for vacation) and expressed my extreme dissatisfaction, I asked that no one come back, that I would do the work over and clean up, myself. Did not feel that he would do any better the second time, if that were to occur. Final exterior painted surfaces were sprayed on top of peeling paint on south face (which he said I agreed was OK - I cannot imagine that I would have agreed to that - it was the main reason for needing the paint job). Overspray onto white vinyl frames of new windows recently installed. Inadequate coverage, especially on wood shingles I had repaired (no priming before final coat). Not all surfaces were covered (e.g. bottom of fascia boards at eve trim). Had no way of knowing whether I got what I paid for or not. He simply looked at the job and said what the cost would be over and above the Angie's Big Deal monies I had already invested. I have to assume that the price he gave me (without his making any measurements) was truly above the 1800 sq. ft. I supposedly paid for.

I purchased the big deal, and Mo showed up quickly to do an estimate. We scheduled the work for the week after Christmas, when I would be home. I prepared the house as requested--moved all things off the walls and moved much of my furniture to the centers of the rooms. And I purchased the wall paint I wanted. The trim and ceiling paint was provided by the contractor as part of the cost. They didn't show on Monday, but called to say they would be there Tuesday morning. They showed up before noon and we discussed scope of work. They remembered the estimate (which wasn't written) slightly differently than I did but honored the version that I remembered (paint all of the ceilings instead of just touching up). They worked well but relatively slowly. They wanted to texture and paint over a wallpaper border (which I had not removed because I thought it was a stencil). I started removing it by hand and they contractor helped finish so that part of the wall could be properly textured and painted, also. They were only able to start painting (one coat) on the exterior doors because it was raining most of the week. By late on Wednesday, I was beginning to worry they would not be finished and asked Mo about it and also mentioned there were some missed spots here and there. He assured me they would get finished and touch up as needed. They did stay late on Wednesday and called me Thursday afternoon to tell me they were finished. I was unable to come by and walk through with them. Later when I got home, the touch up spots were still in need of touch ups. I called Mo and he came out with the painters a week or so later to touch up the missing spots. They didn't finish the exterior doors. Four months later, the exterior doors still are not complete. I've exchanged texts with Mo several times, each time he promised he would be out soon to finish. I've left the paint outside at his request and still nothing. The quality of the work is pretty good--and Mo was willing to add some additional work as the job went (added a couple rooms and the trim in those rooms for a reasonable price), but I am disappointed about my exterior doors.

It was a mixed bag for me. The first half of the job went well. The second half was a disaster. I got a deal through Angie's List. When I requested trim and woodwork to also be painted the cost doubled. I agreed to it as it was needed. Mo requested a check for 50% of the work and I gave it to him. It wasn't until a few days later that I remembered the Visa payment made directly to Angie's List when I purchased the deal! When I asked Mo if he received that payment he replied yes. So he was paid up front for the entire job. One of his painters started the job and he did an excellent job. Paint was not sprayed but applied by hand. He was exceptionally, and I mean exceptionally neat. Unbelievable! The painter patched holes in hollow core doors that I thought would require replacing and again, he did an outstanding job. Half way through the job that painter was replaced by Mo himself and that is when I had problems. Mo was not nearly as thorough, neat or conscientious a painter as his worker. I had to go behind him and point out all the spots that needed to be painted. He painted a louvered door without cleaning it first, after I had the bathroom remodeled. Paint was applied over the dust. It looked like h*** but at this point I was done with him. There were problems with punctuality due to car problems. It is a shame that a fine job ended on such a sour note. Mo did provide a subcontractor for the bathroom remodeling (not the painting), and this part of the job went exceptionally well. I was very happy with the subcontractor's work.

I met Moe at my house for an estimate. I liked what I heard and told him I wanted them to do the job. He worked me in to their busy schedule since I told him the hole was holding up the insulators I had coming to add insulation in the attic. Later that week, two gentlemen knocked out the drywall and texturing in about 2 hours and then Moe came out the next day an finished up with the painting. The room look great.

After obtaining several bids to re-paint the interior of our townhome, I chose These Guys based on their competitive price and my overall impression of the contractor. I routinely use contractors for various jobs on our several rental properties, and so I am used to evaluating the contractor, and wether or not they are offering a fair price for services. Mo was professional, on time for the estimate, and provided a competitive price, so I selected him to do the work. He kept me informed of his progress, and I was pleased with the paint job. In addition, he also re-stained the front door and did a few other small carpentry items at my request, without charging extra. Mo did have car trouble during our job, but he let me know that he needed to re-arrange his schedule, and this was not a problem. I also had to make changes to the schedule based on a trip out of town myself, and Mo was willing to work around my schedule as well. After he was done with the painting, I made a punch list of touch-up items, and he completed these with no problem. I am pleased with the overall job by These Guys, and I plan to use them again in the future.

We should have sent him away when he didn't show up the first day. He was messy and didn't clean up after hisself. Left holidays, smears of paint on ceiling, broke blinds and didn't try to rehang them, left oil stain on driveway and didn't offer to clean it up. He took twice as long as he estimated and did not do a good job. He smoked throughout the house. This was one of Angie's List special one day deals and it was terrible.

"There was no pleasin these people most of this is lies and yes i did have some car trouble and I live an hour and forty five minutes away so I couldnt risk driving that far without resolving the problem I did extra work for them with no appreciation from them as it says in all my reports I always do something extra for my customers. There alot of paint on the ceilings from the previous painters and she expected me t correct it at no charge, they were missing blinds when I got there and tryed to blame me for it. Anyways we do great work and I respect all my customers, And try my hardest to make everyone happy but some people are hard to please. Once again I thank everyone on angies list and hope to do buisness with you in the future."

He came out to give an estimate and was supposed to come out the following Tuesday evening to start work. He called and said he'd wait and come out Friday, Saturday and possibly Sunday because he was having car trouble and didn't want to drive his car late at night. He called later in the week (Thursday, I think) to say that he wouldn't be her Friday, but would do all day Saturday and Sunday and would call when he was on his way. Mo then called Saturday morning around 9:10 to say he was not coming today. Based on the time, I was fully expecting his call to be letting me know he was 20 minutes away. I asked why and he said he was frustrated with us and had other work to do. At that point I asked what I needed to do to get my money back (we put down a $375 deposit on $725 worth of work). He said that I would be in breech of contract and wouldn't get anything back. When I demanded that he come out today and tomorrow as he had previously agreed he was suddenly free and said he would be on his way and should arrive around 10:45. Less than 20 minutes later, he called again to say that he was cancelling on us because he "smelled a setup" and would refund our money. He then hung up on me and I had to call him back and ask when I would receive my money. After several calls and a voicemail, he finally answered and said he would put a check in the mail Monday or Tuesday for the full $375. I called Thursday to say that we hadn't received our check and he said he was out of business checks and had reordered Friday, which showed he lied to me on Saturday, knowing full well that he didn't have a check to send to me. When I requested cash he said he wouldn't do that or a money order because there would be no record of the refund. He then said, "I'll send you a check for $200 tomorrow (Friday) and you can get an attorney." I told him that was unacceptable as he hadn't lived up to his end of the bargain and he was in fact the one to end the contract and cancel on us. He justified it by saying he was charging me a $75 trip fee and $100 for the loss of a job on Saturday. I'm still not understanding the loss of job since he never came out to perform ours so he would have had ample time to complete someone else's. Nothing this contractor says adds up. As of the following Monday (3/14), we do not have a check for either amount.

Nothing but good things to say about them! They are very thoughtful. They did a great job. Very neat, not sloppy and no excess paint used. They color matched the existing paint perfectly. I will use them again and may have them remodel a bathroom in the future.

The job turned out beautiful and within budget. Mo was very easy to work with and always puntual. He presented us with a schedule to complete the work but was flexible when we needed to make changes. Mo and all the workmen are highly skilled and did quality work. I was impressed with the care given to my furniture and belongings and the clean up after completing the work.

I asked the owner to meet with my daughter and her husband to estimate the cost of painting their townhome. As a Christmas gift, I planned to pay for part of the job. The owner Mo was very helpful and responsive to their specific needs. His crews painted several rooms and all the trim. They matched their work days to my daughter's days off schedule -- and they worked on weekends as needed to get everything completed. My daughter and her husband are very happy with the outcome. We plan to call this company next year when we repaint our home.
