Tillerman Gardens LLC

We hired Tillerman Gardens to do a variety of plantings around our home. The crew was pleasant to work with and Jesse is a personable business owner but 3 out of 9 street trees planted for us have died within 2 months of planting. During the estimate process, the poor soil in that area was pointed out to Jesse and he said "they'd take care of all that." In practice, mulch was simply laid on top of the existing rocky clay. In inspecting the dead trees, Jesse mentioned the poor soil as the likely contributing factor. However, after learning that their nursery would not reimburse them for the cost, TG refused to replant or even remove the dead trees.

After finding Tillerman Gardens online and requesting an estimate for substantial hardscape/landscape work on our newly renovated house, we were pleasantly surprised to find out that Jesse, the owner, actually grew up in our neighborhood! On top of being a Takoma Park local, and an all around friendly, honest, business owner, we also came to learn that he does great work as well! His team completely transformed our hardscape areas, including installing a beautiful flagstone walkway and patio, a perfectly graded cement driveway, iron railings on our steps, and plants in a number of locations. On top of that, some of the work required some touch up and sealing and Jesse and his team have come out a couple of times later this spring to do that work unprompted. There's a little bit left, but I know they'll be around to finish it as they've taken care of us every step of the way. Even better, everything was done in budget. Look no further! These are your go to guys for all landscape/hardscape work in the area!

We truly could not be happier with the work that Jesse and his team did, as well as the whole experience of working with him. We live in an area that has a lot of rules and hoops to jump through to get this type of project approved. Jesse's experience in navigating this and taking us through the steps was absolutely invaluable. He was also great at helping us design what we wanted, and then the work itself was done incredibly quickly, thoroughly and skillfully. It's truly absolutely gorgeous and just flawlessly executed. We will very enthusiastically recommend Jesse in the future, and will definitely engage him and his team again if we have any further projects in the future!

This is the second project we’ve done with Tillerman Gardens and again, they’ve exceeded my expectations. I had my flagstone patio extended and a walkway added to my back entryway. Jesse had some creative ideas to incorporate the walkway - he came up with a gorgeous design that I would never have envisioned or had the insight to drum up myself. The execution was seamless - his team was prompt and efficient everyday, and the end result is absolutely beautiful. Now I want more things done. This type of quality work completely transformed my space. Worth every penny.

Jesse and Tillerman Gardens are top notch! We have worked with them for years. With our first home they widened our driveway, added a retaining wall, leveled our backyard and made a beautiful stone wall around our garden. Our house sold in 2 days and all the feedback was about our “beautiful curb appeal”. I was most sad to leave these features of our home, I literally did not want to move and leave my stone wall! It was a deal with my husband to call Jesse immediately and get a new stone wall around my garden. In our new home Tillerman gardens has created a new curved stone pathway, MY stone wall around the garden, leveled the backyard, created a patio around our shed, added a split rail fence, not to mention the landscaping! Jesse helped us choose the best perennial plants to give our new home that lovely curb appeal. The neighbors literally stop us daily to tell us how much they love it. My recommendation for Jesse and Tillerman Garden could not be any higher! It has not only been a pleasure working with him, but we feel like he is apart of our family and the reason we love our new home SO very much!

It was great working with Jesse Karpas. He was professional, punctual and most importantly finished the job on time, on budget. He was courteous and informative. Explained all the steps along and the way and patiently answered all our questions and concerns.

Jesse and his team at Tillerman built a beautiful wood retaining wall along the back of my property, a fence around two-thirds of the yard, and two gates. Jesse was very responsive, punctual, and professional. The workmanship is great - prior to getting the wall, we were losing a quarter inch of yard every time it rained, but the retaining wall has stopped the erosion. The fence was raised a few weeks after the wall was installed, and the team completed the work in a day. After the fence was raised, we ran into some problems caused by the erosion that occurred prior to the retaining wall being installed, but Jesse promptly returned to deal with it. The fence looks beautiful. We would highly recommend Tillerman.

Our driveway was big enough for 1 car and we wanted it expanded to fit 2 cars plus have a walkway installed connecting the driveway to the main walkway leading up to the house. Tillerman Gardens was recommended to me by a friend. Jesse and his crew were wonderful to work with from start to finish. Jesse was very responsive to my request for an estimate. He patiently listened to what we wanted, asked great questions to get clarity and made some really good suggestions on things we hadn't thought of (i.e. adding river rocks to the grassy part at the edge of the driveway to ease getting in and out by the 2nd car). All the members of his crew were very nice and kept the yard looking clean at the end of each day. Work was done in the timeframe given to us. We are so happy with the end result! Attached are before and after photos. Would definitely hire them again for future projects.

I am thrilled with the final product. My house finally has curb appeal!! Tillerman Gardens did a stellar job for me. Jesse Karpas designed the entire project and helped me pick the perfect pavers to match my exterior brick. His attention to detail, craftsmanship, customer service, and professionalism are A++++++. His workers were also masters of their trade and extremely polite, respective of my property, and punctual.. In fact, they completed the job one day earlier than expected. Jesse and his team delivered a fantastic sidewalk, steps, retaining wall and front stoop. From concept to completion there was never a question that Jesse could not answer. He took time to meet with us, gather information and then promptly send us examples, ideas and feedback. We had a rough idea of what we wanted and Jesse worked with us to get the project the way we wanted. We had met with several other companies as we went through the bidding process and Tillerman Gardens had the best price and responsiveness. I would definitely use Tillerman again and would refer them to a friend or neighbor without question.

My wife and I couldn’t be happier with our new patio, retaining wall and landscaping that Tillerman Gardens installed at our house. Jesse and his crew were amazing. We had a rough idea of what we wanted and Jesse took the time to help us design the patio so that it was uniquely suited to the space. There were so many little touches that Jesse thought through that we could have never imagined. We now have a lovely patio that both suits are needs and the space perfectly. His crew was prompt, hard working, polite and incredibly clean. The job took many days less than I expected. Jesse’s prices are fair - especially for the quality of work he does. He's upfront about how much everything is going to costs and the job is itemized in a detailed way which allowed us to fit the project to our budget. We cannot recommend Tillerman Gardens highly enough!

We have had a crazy (and crazy ambitious) backyard project going for five years, involving 90 feet of huge stone gabions (wire boxes filled with rock), a wild meadow with paths, and a 1000+ sq/ft patio area that we wanted segmented into various components (patio, fire pit area, play area, etc). Plus a yard-wide drainage issue that needed to be dealt with. Over the years we solicited estimates from literally a half-dozen landscapers, who all either disappeared (didn't want to deal with it) or gave us walloping estimates for much more than we wanted.  <br> <br>Jesse at Tillerman Gardens was totally different. He listened. Can't tell you how important that is. And rather than start thinking about the ways is wouldn't work, his mind immediately went to how he could make it work, and how he could do it at a reasonable cost. <br> <br>He was super-busy the summer we contacted him so we didn't get to start working until months later, but he kept in touch the whole time and explained his schedule. Once we started working, he and his crew were just a joy to work with. They have a real passion for their work and they are so good at it. In addition to the solid patio, they did a great job with a tricky concrete project, and moved four giant boulders down a narrow half-driveway into place in our backyard -- no easy task.  <br> <br>Jesse was constantly in touch about design and implementation details (though my sense is he would be fine making decisions if that is what the client wanted). It was clear throughout the job that Jesse was laser-focused on getting us the patio we wanted. He was constantly making changes and adding bits and pieces we wanted, most of which didn't show up on the final invoice.  <br> <br>A few weeks after they finished, the big spring storms starting hitting. I emailed him with some small issues regarding the drainage pattern, and he emailed right back and offered to help if necessary. We are still figuring it out but I appreciate how clearly he stands by his work.  <br> <br>I feel so fortunate we ended up working with Jesse. Can't recommend Tillerman Gardens highly enough.

You may look "high-and-low" and you may look "far-and-wide" but you won't find a more  <b>agreeable</b> provider experience than that available from Jesse Karpas and crew of Tillerman Gardens.  Excellent in every category and sub-category as well. <br>Jesse just couldn't  do enough to make sure he was doing what you wanted the way you wanted.  Even pleasing my wife's exacting standards (some would say nit-picking standards) for planting the hydrangea in 2 foot square holes exactly 5.5 inches deep, with just the right amount of leaf grow and starter fertilizer mixed-in etc, etc, etc.  Jesse didn't mind at all,  When I asked if my wife was "too much", Jesse said "not at all, that's the way all true plant lovers behave".  I couldn't thank him enough exclaiming how a "happy wife is a happy life".  Our 47th anniversary is coming soon.  Thank you Jesse for a great  provider experience. <br> <br>

<p>The job is beautiful.   He and his crew were fast and efficient.   I was sure this was more than a one day job but they worked all day from 8:45 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.    Jesse is a true professional and so personable.   He saw my vision and made it happen!</p>

It went very well.  We haven't had any water in the basement since he built the french drain.  That project took one day including digging the trench, putting in the drain and stone and then landscaping dirt away from the house/ toward the drain and finishing the lower end of the drain with grass seed. <br /> The walkway was another day-long project.  Irregular flagstone set in stone dust and removal of the old concrete walkway.  The project turned out beautifully though there was a small issue from county inspection about how the walkway met the stairs.  Jesse came back out later in the week and fixed the issue with no additional cost or complaints. <br /> Jesse knows his business, he's professional, timely and courteous.  I highly recommend him. <br />

The  provider was outstanding from the planning stage through the finished product.  He was very helpful in the stone selection and design process.  The completed driveway and sidewalk are beautiful and beyond our expectations.  This provider's work is absolutely  first class.  The cleanup was meticulous.  I will continue to recommend Tillerman Gardens without any reservation. <br />

We needed to replace our original brick patio due to water leakage in the basement. Jesse was recommended to us by our real estate agent. He came to our house within days of calling; was very good about coming after work hours to accommodate our schedule. He understood what I wanted and sent me a list of quotes for various materials.  <br /> We decided to go with flagstone, and he added a brick border to help it tie in with the existing brick retaining wall at no extra cost. He also removed plants and added a post for us to attach lights/sun shade.  <br /> The work was done over the course of a weekend, and I'm very pleased with the results.  <br /> They completed this work in mid-September; there was a time when I waited for a few days for a response, but once I heard from him, he apologized and explained that it was their busy season. Considering we'd called other people who never even got back to us with quotes, I didn't let this bother me too much. In the end, he was responsive and very professional.  <br /> <br /> <br />

I would hire and recommend Jesse and Tillerman Gardens in a heartbeat. We did a complete overhaul of our overgrown and unusable backyard. We worked with four different contractors through the process and Tillerman Gardens was by far the best to work with. Jesse was super responsive to calls, emails and texts. He provided different options in the estimate and broke each down so we could easily see how and where we wanted to spend our money. They were not the cheapest estimate but when I asked Jesse to explain the cost difference, it was clear that they used quality materials and performed the work to stand the test of time. For example, they use polymeric hard sand joints which allows for proper drainage when wet but dries hard like cement, which is crucial for our digging-obsessed preschooler who dug out much of the stone dust from our old patio. The crew worked super hard and were tremendously efficient so I ended up hiring them to also create two large garden beds for us. When we had a problem with the smallest pieces on the very edge breaking off, Jesse responded right away and his crew returned to fix the problem. They took a completely unusable yard and made a beautiful patio where my children can now play everyday.  <br /> I also want to add that we live in Takoma Park where the tree laws are very strict. I felt completely confident with Tillerman Gardens doing the work. They adjusted the design to ensure we did not break any of the tree codes. I recommend them highly! <br />

This was our third project with tillerman gardens. We have been very happy with all of the work that was done.

<p>We worked with Tillerman Gardens a few years ago on a large project and were very pleased with our experience.</p> <p>When we decided to add an outdoor kitchen area, we know we wanted to work with Tillerman again.</p> <p>Jesse from Tillerman Gardens was great to work with.  He designed an outdoor living space and kitchen for us and integrated it into our existing patio.</p> <p>It's just what we wanted and it's amazing to relax and entertain in.</p> <p>We added a large kidney shaped patio with an inlaid "P" for our family name.</p> <p>the large paver patio is contoured by a curved seating wall.</p> <p>The best part is the granite counter tops that match my indoor kitchen counter tops.  I just love them.</p> <p>the lights around the patio and in the wall really make a big difference when we are entertaining.</p> <p>We also had a privacy fence installed.</p> <p>The whole experience was great, again.  We are very happy with everything.</p> <p>We have worked with many contractors on various projects and Jesse from Tillerman Gardens was by far the best experience we have had with a contractor.</p> <br />
