I hired Jeff to install Cambridge pavers around the perimeter of my driveway. He first came out to give me an estimate on 8/12. The appointment was at 2:00 PM. He showed up around 4:30 PM (red flags should've been set off). I had already gotten another estimate and was going to go with the other company and I had totally forgotten that he was coming out till he rang my door bell. Since he was already there, it couldn't hurt to get another estimate. His presentation was very good and I was truly impressed. 2 days later I got his estimate and it was actually less than the other company's. I decided to switch and go with Jeff. BIG MISTAKE. During his walk thru he told me the entire project should take a day or two. Well it didn't. Work started around the 1st week of October. I confirmed it the weekend before and he was suppose to start either Monday or Tuesday. Monday and Tuesday came and went and I did not hear from him until someone that worked for him called me on Tuesday evening. He showed up with one of his guys on Wednesday at around noon and apologized for not showing up earlier due to an accident. Ok, understandable. The first part of the project required cutting the asphalt edge to make it straight. The entire perimeter is approximately 215 linear feet. It took him 1/2 day on Wed., entire day on Thur. and 1/2 day on Fri. to finish cutting it. Please note that when the driveway was installed, the driveway contractor cut a 20 foot section in less than 10 minutes AND it was smooth. To this day, I can not figure out why it took him so long to cut it and why it was jagged (edges weren't smooth and chunks were missing). Since the edges weren't smooth and there was chunks missing on the edges, it led to another problem which I will get to later. Sometime that Friday I texted him as I had concerns (we were schedule to have an end of season bbq at my house the following Saturday) about the timing as it was taking much longer than what we were led to believe. No response. Tried leaving him a vm - mailbox was full and could not accept anymore vms. Sent email on Sunday. No response. By the following Tuesday on 10/10, his guy had about a 60 foot section done (there was only 1 day in which his guy worked the entire day). I again requested via email that he contact me to discuss. Of course, there was no response. By 10/11 I against requested via email that he call me as the project was well short of completion. Also he was short on materials. The pavers were 6x9, installed long way out. Meaning you need 2 pavers per linear foot. Since the entire perimeter was approx 210 feet, you'd need 420 pavers or so to finish the job. Each pallet contained 150 pavers. Jeff thought it was a good idea to only purchase 2 pallets for a total of 300 pavers. This isn't rocket science. Its simple 3rd grade arithmetic. Prior to 10/11 he only had 1 guy on the job. On 10/11, in the afternoon, 3 other guys showed up. Great, finally. EXCEPT 2 of those guys weren't his. They were friends of the guy that had been on the job since the beginning. They were there to "help out." Problem is, if they're not his men, and they get injured, his insurance company won't cover them. Guess who they'll sue. Of course their "work" wasn't up to par. Some of the pavers were crooked and had to be re-done by one of his guys. Another email was sent . Finally, on Wed night I received a call from a "Stephanie" who apologized. I returned her call the next morning and by mid afternoon on Thursday, when I still have not received a response from Jeff directly, I sent him another email advising him to STOP further work. I was prepared to hire someone else to finish the job as the aggravation just wasn't worth it. Finally on Thursday afternoon, Jeff decides to txt me and apologized, blah blah blah. He offered to make it right and that he'll have the rest of the material that afternoon, blah blah blah. My wife talked me into just letting him finish the job since it was already 1/2 done. Finally, on Sat 10/14 the job was completed. Of course, I had to postpone my BBQ. I thought finally, this headache is over. WRONG. As I had mentioned earlier, when cutting the edges, chucks were ripped out and it wasn't straight. That was one of the issues that I had emailed him about. How was he going to fix this? As per Jeff: "Well, if this was my house, I'd use black cement. You won't even notice it." Hey, he's the professional, so I said ok. Black cement = cement spray painted black with a 99 cent can of spray paint. There was a section by the fence entry that was uneven and he offered to help me level it. So, he poured cement on top of the asphalt to level it and then spray painted it black. Approximately 6x 3 feet. The next day....guess what.... the black spray paint started peeling!!!!! A picture is worth a thousand words. Please see the attached picture. I texted him and to my surprise he actually responded this time. Said he would stop by the following week. He did stop by either the following Tuesday or Wednesday and proceeded to remove the cement with a wire brush. It was taking too long so he said he'd come back the following day with a powered brush to remove the rest of the cement. That was the last I ever saw or heard from him. I've texted him 2 times after that, and guess what....no response. Why am I not surprised? Meanwhile my driveway still looks like crap. I bet Jeff is saying thank god this is not my house. There were other issues. Stay away from this guy. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. I have hired some crappy non-responsive contractors before, but nothing like this.

We contracted Jeff to install a paver patio around our new pool. He was always on time and very professional. We initially had only planned a patio and walkway but after consulting with Jeff he gave us a design with lights, a fire pit and bbq station. After the work was complete we couldn't be happier with it! We would definitely recommend him to any friends or family.

Jeff was an hour late to our scheduled first meeting in Feb. I wanted to have some lighting installed for the patio, and I had already begun getting estimates from electricians. He said that he could save us time, money, and frustration if we allowed him to install low-voltage lighting. “Just buy me what I need and I’ll put it in for you.” I decided to design the patio myself. I emailed the scaled computer design drawing to Jeff. He wrote back that “it might be best you get a landscaper to draw out your envisioned plan so we all could be on the same page.” I e-mailed him my design again and explained what he was looking at. He wrote back, “I want to clarify that a landscaper architect could have a better imagine in that aspect.” After a telephone conversation with Jeff, he revealed that he had not thoroughly read my e-mails nor looked at the design. An enduring issue was not returning phone calls, e-mails, or text messages, or simply not reading them at all. I finalized the design, I e-mailed it to Jeff and he said that he would be at our home that evening to discuss the design. He arrived 90 min late and without having looked at the design. He came in with the lowest price and took the time to work with us to make sure that we could afford the things we wanted. When he came to our home to present us with the contract, Jeff admitted that he’d never actually read his own contract and that it was something which was printed off the internet. These things set off alarms, but we just asked him to fix the errors in the contract. We signed and emailed the contract on 4/24. We asked when work would begin. “The last week in May or the 1st week in June.” How long until the work is completed? “About 2 to 3 weeks depending on the weather.” The project was not completed until about 9/5, 4-1/2 months later. He implied that he would be going to my township on 6/8 to discuss permits. On 6/20 I got a text from him saying that he had been to the township and that he was filling out permits. It was 2 months without any progress being made. During this time several texts and phone calls went unanswered. In the 3rd week of June he called to tell me that he would be at our house the following morning around 8. He didn’t show up. That night around 8 PM he showed up to our home with one of his workers. They worked for hours into the night and left some time after my wife and I had gone to sleep. The front walk was only partially taken up when I checked the following morning. Another issue was irregular work hours. Often they would arrive late in the afternoon or evening and work into the night, using their car headlights for light. The running engines and lights on my quiet suburban block was not pleasant for my neighbors, and they expressed as much to me. Over the next days they finished ripping up my front walk. Over the next week there was no progress, no phone calls, no texts. On 6/27 I texted him to ask when he would be returning to complete the work. My wife and I went away for July 4 weekend and he worked while we were away. By the time we came home the front walk had been completed and he took the liberty of redoing the step which leads into our home. It came out nicely. However it did come out uneven and had to be fixed. There was a paver stone which was supposed to be left loose so that we could access a drain cleanout underneath so he had to fix that too. On 7/28 our zoning permit for the back patio was ready. No progress had been made after the front walk. On the 29th he texted me to ask, “Do you mind if I start dropping my equipment today”. I came home late to find that they had parked a trailer on my front lawn and in the process they drove over several of my solar path lights completely destroying them. Jeff told me that he would replace them. He never did. For 2 days their equipment sat. On 7/31 he sent me a text verifying our color choices which I had previously e-mailed him. His workers came and began ripping up our old patio. They were very nice non-English speaking men. It was difficult for us because I wanted to ask about timeline and progress, but there was a language barrier. Jeff had said something to the effect of that he would always be doing the work himself. I’d say that he was only on site for about 50% of the work. Jeff amended the contract to include no deposit, a 50% progress payment, and then 50% upon completion. I had told him that whenever he wanted his progress payment he needed to give me 4 days before I could write him a check, because our savings account and our checking accounts are at different banks and we needed time for the transfer. About 8/3 Jeff asked for his first progress payment. He asked for more than what the contract stated. I agreed. I reminded him that I needed a few days before I could hand him the check and he seemed to be annoyed by the delay. On 8/8 Jeff cashed my check and texted me, “I lost all my info when I got my new phone can you please send me over the color choices again.” I did. A few days later he arrived at my home with a truck-load of the wrong color paver stones. The incorrect stones were left on my front lawn for about a week until his supplier came with the correct stones on 8/19. On the morning of 8/21 he sent me a text message, “Just want to keep you updated grabbing the machine and tools from the other job site be there shortly”. He never showed up. I asked him, “What happened today?” He replied, “I have no f***ing clue.” One of my in-ground lawn sprinklers got buried which caused a mud pit in that area. 3 light fixtures were cracked at the base by his workers during installation. There was a voltage drop problem with the lighting; he had to rip up a paver stone in the back patio in order to fix it. There is construction adhesive which oozed from the seams in the stones of our fire pit. The wiring for our accent lights was not dressed properly, it was plainly visible on top of the soil in the boxes. The wiring on the front patio was done in the same fashion, as well as the main line being strewn on my front lawn. The black housing of 2 accent lights was marked in red and holes were drilled through them. My lawn has been reduced to patches of dirt in the places where their equipment was parked for weeks at a time. Jeff didn’t build the mailbox I asked for. I asked for one slanted piece of bluestone at the top. Instead he built it with two pieces coming to a point. He said, “It wouldn’t have looked this nice if I did it the other way.” The bluestone caps are two different thicknesses and their faces of them are stained. We purchased an address plaque and the paint was stripped off a bit. The new mailbox itself was mangled with scratches on the face and the inside looked like it had been mashed in. First he put the mailbox flag in one place at the apex of the roof, which looked ridiculous, and then he put it on the side of the stones using screws which have since rusted. The screws holding the address plaque and the accent lights are stripped and not sunk in. On 8/30 he asked me to leave him a check for the final payment. I said that things weren’t finished or done to my satisfaction. He replied, “I [need] a check”. I said there were things that still needed to be addressed. On 9/2 I received an e-mail which explained that the lights and electrical wire “are not in your contract” and “it is typically the homeowners responsibility to provide an electrician for this type of work”. (Exactly why I wanted to hire an electrician in the first place.) They continued in the e-mail from 3:28 PM, “As far as completing additional items that are not in the contract, before Jeff receives final payment will be a breach of contract. Jeff will need to collect your final payment today no later than 5 PM.” When I got home I replied in part, “As you've already alluded to, I paid Jeff (at his request) $13K as the initial payment. This is not the black letter of the contract. My point being -- the contract seems to only apply when you want it to.” I went into detail about how I wanted to hire an electrician at first but was talked

Jeff Tomasello is great. The only reason i did not rate the price is that before even doing the firmal work, having spotted a safety issue with our current brickwork, he quickly went to work, without my even asking, repairing/re-pointing the two steps of our front door portico (cleaning up as well). He was professional, knowledgeable, and had all that you look for in am masonary/stone company. He did great work. I highly recommend and endorse!!

Jeff and his team were great. Most other contractors would not take the job in-season because of its size. Due to that fact, they all overpriced the job. Jeff was straightforward with us and said he would do the job at a very fair price as long as we were able to work with him on scheduling. We did and he was true to his word. The work was done beautifully and Jeff and his team went above and beyond to fix some other problem pavers, spread some additional sand and they left the job way cleaner than they found it. Dealing with Jeff was among the 2 or 3 best contacting experiences we've ever had. Would recommend and hire again without reservation!

We contracted Jeff Tomasello on April 23rd to construct our patio and do a fire pit and wall, after bringing many. many contractors in. We really liked Jeff's work and we were very excited to have him do our patio. He even told us that we signed with him at a good time as his work load would certainly pick up as Summer approached. Then the nightmare began. Jeff kept giving us new dates and promising to come or send his men to do work, but on 4 occasions was a no show. No texts to communicate why or no phone calls. My husband missed work several times waiting for Jeff to show up to no avail. I stayed home from my job, as well waiting. Waiting is what we did. Over and over. We are fair people. We understand there can be delays for weather or for whatever reason. All we ever asked was for communication. That is the big factor that Jeff lacks is communication. You can't just not show up over and over and think that is ok without communication. 8 weeks out of contract we called Jeff, once again, after another no show event, and got no response until dinner time. Please see attached text in which he insults my husband for his no show. When my husband was finally able to speak with him two days later.... Jeff claimed he felt my husband called and texted him too much. HMMMMMM when you are expecting someone at your house and give up weekend plans and they don't show up...of course you are going to try and reach them. This sounds very familiar to the review in early April in which that person stated the same thing....no returned texts or emails and then Jeff tried to blame his client for harassment. Can't wait to see how they try to spin this one. We terminated the contract after speaking with our lawyer as Jeff did not fulfill his end of the deal. The sad thing is that we were willing to try to get past it as we do believe his work is very good. We just could not get past his rude and disrespectful treatment, his nonchalant way of promising he'd be there and not show up and feel he need not let us know (4 times) and his lack of character. We work hard for our money and we won't allow Jeff to treat good people in that manner. We have saved all texts and communications on both ends, documented every date and we would gladly share that with anyone that wants to research this further. Awful experience. We begin the process again...this time we hope to find someone true to their word.

Tomasello Patio And Stone NJ license # 13VH06618400 - say there top priorities are quality work and customer satisfaction and customer service. The stone stairs settled and contacted Jeff Tomasello, he said send me a picture of the stairs and we will get to them. 18 phone calls and no response and 45 days later, still nothing. That is not customer satisfaction. Now I have to get a real stone and patio person in here to fix Tomasello's sub standard work. Pick another stone and patio, or you will end up like us.

"Tomasello Patio and Stone is a family owned company when you first reached out to Jeff regarding the concerns you had for the work, he was away on an emergency unexpected visit with his in laws in NC. He asked for you to send him the pictures regarding the concerns with all intentions of repairing the step even though the contract had expired. When you sent the pictures to him, he noticed that you had a railing installed by another contractor which he felt ultimately led to the problem you were faced with. Jeff also made you aware of his time constraints regarding when he would return from NC and the opening of his season, which in turn you replied that you were selling your home and needed the job completed by March 13. On his way home as well as when he returned home he received an overwhelming amount of phone calls from you harassing him about the issue that another contractor (who installed the railings) had caused, some calls beginning at [Member Information Removed]:45 am. Jeff was still willing to remedy your issue even though you were out of contract, but unfortunately his availability and the work for new customers did not fit the time frame for you and the selling of your home."

Are you ringing in the new year dreaming about a house project? If it involves masonry, then "Tomasello Patio and Stone" is the firm for you! This past Fall, Tomasello Patio completely reconstructed our front stone stoop. We no longer have to step around puddles when it rains, and the stone work looks beautiful. Jeff Tomasello talked with us in detail before the project, appreciating our input and desires. He explained exactly what needed to be done giving us a competitive bid. He was on time, ready to explain anything again during the process. The gentlemen who constructed the stoop were polite, efficient, neat, and very particular in their selection and placement of the bricks. We would highly recommend this firm for the professionalism and craftsmanship shown throughout the project.

Jeff and his crew did an amazing job renewing and regrouting our existing ten-year old patio which had pavers that had shifted over time as well as small plants growing in between them. It looked like new. He then removed our badly worn sidewalk running from our driveway to our front door and replaced it with pavers. He was very helpful in suggesting designs and small touches that showed he really cared about his work. The design was great. The installation was finished on a Friday, and over the weekend we noticed there was unusually bad efflorescence that we noticed on a number of the pavers used for the border and marks on a handful of the pavers in the main design. Jeff said he was unhappier with how it looked than we were and at his expense tore up almost a quarter of the pavers and replaced them until we both thought it looked great. We were extremely happy with Jeff. He is a professional who values his reputation and stands behind his work. We recommend him highly.

Jeff was awesome to deal with. From day 1 with the estimate, Jeff was helpful, informative, friendly, and more. His pricing was very fair and he certainly cares about the quality of work. He is involved in every project and the final product is amazing. Jeff installed both a paver patio with a walkway as well as a 35 foot retaining wall. Jeff was very accommodating as we needed to do the walkway months after the patio was complete. He had great suggestions and we couldn’t be happier with it. The retaining wall is used by our pool as the yard is graded and needed to be leveled. Jeff’s suggestion of bringing the retaining wall around the corner at the lowest point was great. This allows for a more stable area for seating instead of what would have been a steep grade. To sum it up, we would highly recommend Jeff and his crew. His work is done with quality, his price is fair, and he is a pleasure to work with as well.

We needed an extension of an app. 5 year old bluestone patio and contacted Tomasello Patio & Stone after seeing their excellent rating on Angie's list.
We received an immediate response and scheduled an appointment for the day after. Jeff Tomasello assessed the work and provided us an estimate with an appropriate and reasonable price a few days later.
A few weeks later (after the weather turned favorable for that type of work), Jeff and his crew showed up and finished the job within two days.
The work was of excellent quality . They managed to seamlessly extend the patio, matching the existing pattern and smoothly extending the outline - not an easy feat. The only indication that this patio was extended are the expected newer appearance of the new stones and grout, a difference that will fade over time.
Not only did they do an excellent job in that regard, they also re-mortared and re-grouted some loose bluestones in a different part of my property and left the yard cleaner than than they found it.
Jeff was very helpful with advice as well. He had great suggestions how to shape the extension, explained what to expect and did provide welcome insight into aspects of ongoing projects we are doing right now.
I highly recommend Tomasello Patio & Stone and will use them again without hesitation.

Two years ago we were looking to put in a patio in our backyard surrounding our pool. It only had a 3-4' concrete surround, so not much sitting room at all. We got bids from a half dozen contractors. Half did pavers, half did stamped concrete. Jeff was one of these original bids we got. We ended up holding off that year, but last fall we were ready to move forward. We kept Jeff's information, and ended up using him for the job. We choose him over the other companies, for several reasons. He was very easy to work with, and never rushed our decision or design choices. He gave us input on the design, but also listed to what we wanted. He took the time to drive us out to see sample jobs and different colors so that we would be happy with our final choice. His pricing was very fair compared to the other bids we received. The companies that came out with the cheaper quotes did not seem as professional, and I would not be comfortable with them to do this size of a job. His pricing is very comparable to stamped concrete quotes, so going with real pavers was a no brainer.
Our job entailed ripping up a lot of existing poured concrete, removing several tons of stone and then putting down the 2000 sqft patio and walk ways. We had a walk way put in leading from backyard to our driveway, and then from main patio to our walk out basement. The crew cleaned up everyday, was right on schedule, and price came in as quoted. No surprises at all. This was a big job, and we are extremely satisifed with the work that was done. We had a small draining issue and Jeff came out recently to fix it, and did not charge for the work.
I have since referred a couple friends to Jeff and they are equally satisfied with the work that was done. We plan to use Jeff again as we look to do a couple more additions to our backyard over time.
We can't say enough positive things about Jeff and his team. Jeff gave us his honest opinion from day one on building our back yard patio. His experience and confidence with pavers helped us to trust in his recommendations and allowed us to visualize exactly what our patio would look like in the end. Jeff's communication skills were stellar as he kept us up to date on the progress each day. His passion for his job and desire to ensure his clients are happy with the end result are reflected in his high quality work. In the end, we have a BEAUTIFUL paver patio and can't wait to use it this Spring and Summer! We highly recommend Tomasello Patio & Stone!
