"We are happy to hear that the homeowner saw a 30% reduction in his energy bills and was pleased with the quality of the installed work. However, this is not enough for Total Comfort since the homeowner was clearly not satisfied with every aspect of the project. We at Total Comfort have never claimed to be perfect on every job, but that certainly is our goal and we have come close with 96% of our customers reporting that they are highly satisfied with every aspect of their project. There are a few important items to note about this specific project in response to the homeowner’s comments. Unlike the vast majority of Total Comfort’s customers, this homeowner came to Total Comfort from the Clean Energy Works Oregon program which provides financing options to homeowner, but also exercises considerable control over the project timeline and pricing. CEWO has complex reporting and paperwork rules that dramatically slow down our ability to communicate with homeowners and to move the project along in a timely manner. CEWO also has several wage requirements and other embedded costs which increase the price well above Total Comfort’s standard price levels. Homeowners who work directly with Total Comfort will have lower pricing, faster (typically immediate) estimates, and shorter project timelines. As for tax credits and other incentives, the various incentive programs can easily become confusing and customers often talk with multiple contractors who may present different estimates of the incentives available. For this reason, Total Comfort’s practice is to clearly list the available incentives for any given project as part of the written estimate. We will then do what we can to help owners maximize these incentives including filling out most forms on their behalf. Ultimately, however, all tax credits and other incentives are under the control of the government, utility company, or other organization offering those incentives. In this case the homeowner does appear to have received an inaccurate tax credit estimate from a separate HVAC subcontractor. In response, Total Comfort sent a check to the homeowner to cover the difference between the actual tax credit and the expected amount."
