Our front lawn was mostly mud because a drain pipe discharged directly onto it. The bushes were overgrown as well. Page at Townline Design listened to what we needed in both the front & back yards and came up with a beautiful proposal. When her team arrived, they worked quickly & efficiently removing the old bushes. Since the front door stoop was disintegrating, I had asked her to remove that & replace it as well. Both the front & back yards now look entirely different with flowering bushes & plants. I've already gotten compliments from the neighbors! The new stoop is so beautiful! There is already grass growing in the front. The team worked efficiently and Page answered every question I had. I couldn't be happier!

Page and her team were exceptional to work with. Page worked closely with me on the design of the garden and brickwork, incorporating my preferences in both the style and type of plants. The landscaping was completed within a tight timeline as I needed everything done for a wedding reception. Hardscaping was delayed due to rain and permits, but once started was completed in less than 2 weeks. The entire team was professional and courteous. The results are beautiful and I've received many compliments!

It went great. We were at work most of the time and there were no problems. The whole job was completed in a timely manner and looks fantastic. Clean up was excellent and the house looks so much better now. We plan on using them for more landscaping in the Spring.
I would recommend them because of the size of the company, but use follow up calls because they have a lot of business.

A prior contractor had left stepping stones extremely wobbly and had installed them in a ridiculous manner, using 14 stones when only 4 were needed. I also had a couple of other stonework problems. The first contractor I got an estimate from didn't even discuss resetting the stones the way I wanted - he just gave me HUGE estimates for doing something he thought was better in the stepping stone area and redoing the other two areas.
Jan (?) from Townline came out, surveyed the three problem areas, told me frankly that one could not be salvaged and would have to be redone completely, discussed the problems with the second area, and said her company could do exactly what I wanted with the stepping stones and haul away the excess stones for $200. She told me frankly that fixing the other two areas would cost a lot of money. I opted to get just the stepping stones fixed (as they were a hazard).
The work was done promptly and efficiently, and the stones are solidly in place now.
Overall they did a pretty good job of building our patios and wall. I would call the job good but not excellent as we had a number of issue along the way. Most, but not all, got resolved. Page who designed and managed the project did a good job. However, she seems to have a lot on her plate and was not involved in the day-to-day supervision. This was a problem because several issues arose and the on-site supervisor would resolve them on his own. He did not closely follow the blueprints and made several decisions that we were not happy with. Overall grade would be between a B+ and an A-.
As to whether we would use them again, we don't feel strongly about this (maybe was not an option on this question), but we were not please with the day-to-day supervisor.
It went great. A friend recommended Townline Design because he was very satisfied with their work. Although not the cheapest, we liked the overall design and the good affordable suggestions. We found Page very knowledgeable and easy to schedule and work with. The crew arrived on time every day and worked until the job was completed. We are very satisfied our new landscaping. I highly recommend Townline Design. In fact, next year we plan to hire them for a new project.
Meeting with the architect went well and she drew up a blue print based on our discussion. The outcome exceeded my expectations as I have a hard time "envisioning" the finished product. It took a while to get the project going but they are extremely busy and I can see why now since they do excellent work. Definitely will use them again for our next project.
Page, Mike and their staff are professionals who were a pleasure to work with. I am an avid gardener and have installed many trees, shrubs and perennials in our garden over the years. I wanted to find a landscape designer who was willing to save some of the stock and Page was one of the few designers we interviewed who agreed to do so. Her knowledge of native plantings is extensive and her design sense is eclectic and creative. The installation took approximately four days to complete. Page's crew came to our home on time and left the premises in good shape at the end of each day. Page and Mike maintained open communications throughout the job. Page visited the site several times to supervise the installation and we are very pleased with the results. I will add pictures to this review when the garden is in bloom. I strongly recommend Townline Design.
Page was highly responsive and really listened to our ideas and needs for our backyard. We asked for her "dream" design and she definitely provided this with full drawings and costs. It was so beautiful, we decided to do it "all" but asked if we could break it up over two years. Page worked with us and showed us the best way to do this to achieve optimal results. The first phase was completed this week and we are absolutely thrilled with the results. All of the plants and tress are beautiful, hardy and first rate. The borders and edges were so clean and beautifully laid out. We would highly recommend Townline Design to everyone that wants the best landscaping architects and designers in Lake County and the surrounding areas. This was a great experience and we can't wait until next year to complete our dream yard!
She did a great and simple design, and was really helpful in working with the Village to get it approved. The process took over a year thanks to the village. Throughout the process, Page was responsive and helpful, even showing up at the Village Board mtg where I had to get the project approved. We got a great result thanks to her help and hard work.
Townline did a fantastic job start to finish. They showed us a detailed computer model that we could manipulate to our specifications and gave us advice on landscaping around the patio. The work was done exactly when they said it would be and they did an excellent job of cleaning up after such a large project.
After reading a few reviews here and researching other companies prior we called Townline. Page came out for a quote, and was the contact during the job too. She was very friendly and made every effort to communicate the details of the job when we had questions. The contract process was a little challenging to get everything spelled out but no real issues. Part of doing business.

The work crew was on time every day and as far as we could tell, very diligent. There was a foreman on the job the whole time doing the measurements and leveling, cutting the bricks properly, and overseeing the detail work. He was also friendly. By the end we were happy with the patio and were told to water the lawn twice daily for 4-5 weeks for everything to grow back.

Unfortunately about 1/3 of the seeded area remained as bare soil (enough to be a problem with dogs running around the back yard and tracking stuff in the house). Probably due to uneven seeding. In the end we had to buy more seed and several bags of soil and re-do the bare areas. It's just now filling in, which is why the review is being done now. In total it was about $100 more expense and 3 hours (driving to Lowe's + yard work) to finish things off. Not a major problem but something you expect won't be necessary.

Overall though good quality paver workmanship, nice people, and competitively priced compared to other reputable landscapers in the area. Will report back if there is any frost heave effects over the winter / spring but I don't anticipate any.
I would recommend this company for modest scale paver jobs (not sure how well they would handle very large or complex jobs); just make sure you have the lawn repair part of things handled before the job starts; you might want to go with sod if it makes sense for your yard and you know someone will water it thoroughly every day. Less likely to deal with the weeds, rocks, bare spots.

UPDATE: Almost a year on, the patio survived the first winter without any heaving issues. There have been some rust / oxidation spots that have appeared on some bricks. Not sure where it comes from, but guessing there are some metallic bits in the pavers (which they don't manufacture), that get exposed to the elements. Leaves rust red spots about the size of a silver dollar. Some minor gaps in the "grout" have been found also... we used the more expensive kind to "seal it off", so not sure that extra expense is worth it... but in a couple places I've had to pull grass shoots out in the central area of the patio, and all along the edge, where the grout material apparently didn't work its way in as they swept / spread it around. Otherwise everything OK for now.

UPDATE 2: Since the prior update we have had to set up 2 warranty repairs for the patio. In both cases the "grout-like" material that is fused between the bricks, deteriorated between many of the bricks near the edge of the patio. Before long the brings started to break away from the rest of the patio and slumped towards the mounding between the patio and the lawn. The cause was different in each case (best guess was standing water in one case and erosion from underneath in the other), but repairs were required to maintain the integrity of the patio. Both times Page sent a crew out the same week, so the responsiveness was good. However I came to find out the materials they used to create the "grout" are materials they no longer used, which doesn't reassure me much. I suspect this type of degradation will continue in random spots but hopefully not. Will post more updates after the 2013-2014 winter and spring.

I heard about Townline Design from a coworker who had had work done by them and was very happy. I called and made an appointment with Page on an evening, because I work a lot of hours. We discussed my goals for my far north 1970s house, and she came up with a master landscape plan. She listened very well and gave me exactly what I needed. She gave me a proposal with several stages, because that is how I thought I was going to handle it, but I liked it so much I decided to do it all at once. I am so glad I did!
Page warned me that the first few days would be hard, seeing everything torn up, but it wasn't as bad as I feared. Townline Design's crews were very professional, leaving the site neat and tidy throughout the construction process. Either Page or one of her two foremen was always on the site, so there was always someone I could talk to if need be. There were a couple of changes as we went along, due to my input, but they didn't slow things down much.
They preserved my porch, but covered it with the same stone that I chose for the front walk, so it looks new. The patio area is a pleasure- it has a barbeque area, a fire pit, a sitting wall, and a water feature that cloaks the sound of a nearby highway.
The plantings that Page designed are mostly natives, because that is something I strongly believe in. She also made a rain garden for me. Before, the downspouts dumped across a lawn and went to the street to a storm sewer. Now I have a colorful perennial garden that uses all my downspout water from one side, and rain barrels on the other side of the house. I have privacy where it's needed, but some nice views are still there. And, there are no hedges to clip anymore- something I have always hated. It is a pretty low maintenance garden overall, which I need because of my work hours.
I would definitely recommend this company to anyone and everyone. I will be using them again.

Working w Page Hunter was a good experience- professional, practical, efficient, and the design she came up with was lovely. I couuld not afford to all the work at one time... but will complete gradually. Townline design understood my desire to complete work before my son's wedding and despite weather challenges, were done well before deadline.

Let me just start by saying that we are very impressed and pleased with all aspects of this large landscape project. The owner of Townline Design, Paige Hunter, did an amazing job and an incredible amout of work for a very reasonable price.

We have an old house in the northern suburbs. It had a 60 year old brick patio and walkway that looked its age. During the spring and with heavy rains, my backyard became a lake. I hate working with contractors and put off the project for far too long. Finding Paige wasn't easy -- I spoke with and received bids from several other landscapers, and I'm glad I did my homework.

One of the most impressive things about the process was that Paige really listened to our needs and concerns. We told her we were on a budget, and she came up with a reasonable plan with several alternative price points. We told her what we liked about the existing landscape, and she made sure to incorporate it into the design. When we asked her to make a few (minor) corrections, she listened without becoming defensive and made the necessary changes.

We are also very pleased with the quality of the work, materials, and plants provided. The project included a Arborvitae privacy screen, and the plants were tall and full. The workers took their time to prepare the base and layout for the patio. The project foreman and Paige both made some really good -- cost neutral-- suggestions during the installation to create a more beautiful and tranquil setting.

We are not gardeners. Paige has the experience and knowledge to match the landscape conditions to the types of perennials, shrubs, and trees that will thrive in our environment with a minimum amount of care.

This was a good sized residential project, and Townline Design was well prepared to deliver from start to finish. We plan on spending lots of time enjoying the new patio with family and guests. I highly recommend the company for all landscape and hard-scape design and installation. Good luck!

They did a good job. Their service was good. They were knowledgeable. They were attentive. I would recommend them. They were attentive to detail. They asked us the kind of things they needed to ask us so that they could do the right plan, and then they executed it in a detailed manner. We are very satisfied. I would use them again in the future.

It's GREAT. I don't know how to say how wonderful she's been. She truly & deeply cares about the quality of her work. She had excellent guidance when I knew a look or saw a plant but couldn't explain it but, never pushed an idea. And, if it didn't look like we wanted when it was in the yard - she said no problem - let's figure out what you want. Next year is the last year of our work. We'll actually miss her. Maybe we'll have to tear something up & get her back :)
