I had four seperate estimates to replace an aging 30+ square cedar shake roof. Scott provided the best and most detailed estimate, providing several different options regarding costs and quality. While he gave me the most competative bid of the four, most importantly I trusted that he was very knowlegable in the correct standards for cedar shake replacement, and no shortcuts would be taken. I was not as trusting with the three other roofing companies that stated that they were "cedar certified", so I went with Traditions. They installed the roof in a week, it looked great and survived the first winter with no issues. I also very much appreciated that the work was done within the estimated cost he provided, no ridiculous upcharges that are so common in the contractors world. I would definetly recommend this company, Scott is honest and ethical which is sometimes hard to find in this type of business.

The crew worked like demons to get the job done in one day. Almost made it, had to finish some things the next day. Scott was friendly and good at coordinating and supervising. Crew worked hard. The final job looks great. My complaints are two: 1. They promised that they would do an excellent job of clean-up of nails and materials. After they left I went around and collected a whole bag of discarded nails. 2. Scott did not warn us that our garage attic, where we store tons of stuff including racks of clothes, would be covered in roof debris and literally hundreds of roofing nails. It took two of us two full days to pull everything out and vacuum out the attic, and we wash the clothes.

The services were fine.

Tradition replaced my cedar shake roof in May/June 2014.  Scott provided the estimate and follow-up and was my most competitive bid.  The workers were very polite, cleaned up every day and the roof looks spectacular.  <br /> The only issue was an expectation set by Scott that the job would be completed in 4-5 days.  In actuality it took a couple days longer.   <br /> I would hire them again.....the roof looks great. <br /> <br /> <br />

Scott is courteous & honest & has good roofing crews. The work was completed in 1 day. Scott always returns calls promptly.

Our job was complicated by city restrictions, structural problems found after we started, and an error in tile delivery. Despite these problems, everything worked out well. Stu was easy to deal with and more than fair. The work crew was efficient and tidy. Things sometimes go wrong in big projects, but the key is how you handle the problems. I was more than pleased with all aspects of this project. <br />

Soffit and Fascia: <br />  Soffit looks good <br />  Fascia looks good, from the highway. Get within 10 feet and ugly. Wavy in spots, and where they join on the corners looks like someone just ran out of pride. <br /> Window: <br />  On their first visit they installed the window. It has sliders and is about 8' x' 5', so a tricky one to install without the mistakes being evident. <br />  So, the slider on the right doesn't stand square and consequently doesn't latch without a LOT of coaxing. The entire window leans about 1/4" down on the right side. <br />  The trim work was fit very well the first time. But they spliced part of a face board directly behind the trim along the bottom instead of making it one piece. They could have spliced it and been fine had they done so in the center, but it was done about 3" from one end. So we had them come back out and replace with a single piece. Bad idea, should have done it myself in the first place. Bad attitude by installer left split/cracked trim pieces, poor fit consisting of gaps and about 1/16" of a step from one piece to the other. Owner promised to come out and repair it "once he had time", that was a lie, he still has not even contacted me and that was over 30 days ago. I repaired the work myself. <br />  I did not hire a contractor because I could not do the work, I did so because I did not have a wealth of time to do it. None of the pieces I installed split or cracked, as a matter of fact my house did not disintegrate into slivers even though it is 40+ years old, see, he stated "hey, this is Minnesota, wood cracks and splits, that is the nature of it" <br />  There is an article in the Angie's list magazine from this summer that covers the topic of interviewing contractors. One of the observations they state in this article is the practice of the contractor repeatedly proclaiming some fact about themselves as being an indication of the opposite, quite true. His favorite line "my guys are the best I know", said often and with increasing aggressiveness once issues were brought forth was that sort of proclamation. <br />  His claim that I was one who would bring new issues every time I communicated with him was true, every time I looked at the window something else would become evident. If I knew I had to comb his work I would have skipped to another contractor. <br />  Bottom line, if you don't mind sub-standard work or have a commercial or rental property, hire this guy, he is worth that money. <br />  I had 5 different contractors do various work on my home this summer, this was the only one that performed this poorly.

The job went very well.  Stu was very good to deal with.  He proved us with estimates on various roofing materials and was patient as we worked with the neighborhood association on what materials we could use on the roof.  He was not pushy at all.  Stu was in communication and told us when to expect the materials, dumpster, etc. to arrive and when the job would start and finish.  The crew did a professional job and kept the site clean during the job.  The gutters and screens were done through a sub contractor and they also did a very professional job.  I would recommend Tradition Roofing and Exteriors and will use them again if the need arises. <br /> <br /> <br />

My experience overall went excellently. I was very pleased with the roofing job they provided. The staff was very friednly and professional. The pricing reasonable. I would highly recommend this company to others.

The initial job of replacing the roof and siding went well, although we ended up with a roof leak because the roofer had failed to caulk around one of the vents.  While we understand such things happen, it took months of repeated emails and calls to get someone out to look at and fix the leak.  <br /> The subsequent work  to replace the doors and wrap the window, which were much smaller jobs, has not gone well.  Although it was a small job, we went through Traditions for the work because the roofing and siding job had gone well.  We live in an old house and wanted to be sure that the work was done by knowledgeable professionals and thought that would be more likely with oversight by Stu.  Unfortunately, we did not get that.  It has taken 10 months and dozens of emails, text messages, and phone calls to get the work completed, with no-shows, multiple workers doing bits and pieces over time,  and much of the work poorly done.   We raised concerns repeatedly with Stu about the quality and timing of the work, which yielded promises that the work would be finished but little actual progress.  The installation of one of the doors was done quite poorly, with large gaps and gouges in the frame.  One of our last emails to Stu pleaded that "Given the fairly extensive patching that is needed to prepare the side door for painting, I'd like the painter to be very good."  What we got was a painter who simply painted over everything--no patching of gaps or holes, no sanding and no priming. That was the last straw for us.  Stu did offer to send yet another worker out to "fix" the painting of the door, but that would be the 6th or 7th time someone had come out to work on that door.  At this point we have no faith in Stu's commitment to ensuring quality work on this job and simply want to be done with dealing with him.  I work from home and find the repeated visits (and no-shows) for the same job incredibly time-consuming and disruptive.  What we thought would be a quick last bit of work as part of a larger job has turned into a disappointing mess.  While we would agree with other reviewers that Stu is a nice guy, this was not nice work. <br /> In rating Tradition we've tried to average the positive experience on the roof and siding job (generally A's) with the negative experience on the subsequent work (generally C's and D's). <br />

Stu was great to work with.  From start to finish, he had my confidence that he would deliver a top notch professional job at a fair price.  I contacted several contractors, and Stu was the first to come out.  He was prompt and effective in phone and email communications, including answering my questions and revising the contract to include requested details.  His price was as low as or lower than the competitive bids I got. <br /> His crew did the job over three days, and did a good job with cleanup.  And when I expressed some disappointment in part of the clean up, Stu came back out and finished cleaning. <br /> The roof looks good, and I am confident it was installed properly to protect our home. <br />

I contacted Tradition Roofing & Exteriors about replacing the roof  and gutters on my 1 1/2 story house.  The 1/2 story had a large dormer that was almost flat  and the existing rolled roofing was in really bad condition.  Stu Hudson was able to meet with me at a time that was very convenient for me and provided an estimate within a few days.  <br /> I  ultimately decided to use Tradition because they were local and the estimate was lower than the other estimate I got. I also felt  that I could trust them.  Stu was very helpful in answering my questions and describing what they would do with parts of my roof that needed something other than traditional shingles.  I was very fortunate in that they were able to start the job within a week due to an opening in their schedule.  Most of the work was done within a day even though rain caused some delays and they worked late making sure the roof was water tight as more rain was on the way.  Stu Hudson was very good at keeping we up to date with with status reports during the whole process.   They did a great job of cleaning up after and put everything they moved back were it was.   I would definitely use Tradition Roofing again in the future and will recommend them to anyone needing roofing done. <br />

The work was spread out over several months which was our choice.  Scott worked closely with us during each stage of the work and was patient with our questions and any changes we discussed. <br /> First, the roof was replaced and they replaced some rotted wood.  The work was done quickly and efficiently. <br /> Next, we had some windows replaced.  Scott helped us select the style and brand of windows and the installation went smoothly.  We are satisfied with the windows and the work. <br /> Finally, we had the house re-sided, and the fascia, soffits, gutters and downspouts replaced.  Some of the work we did was covered by insurance, and Scott worked with the insurance company throughout the process to be sure and disputes were resolved and we were paid for the work that was covered.  He also helped us select the type of siding- we went with James Hardie cement board and have been very happy with it so far.  He also helped us through the process of whether we should select pre-painted siding or have it painted after it was installed. <br /> We decided we wanted to select the paint color after it was installed and Scott worked with us on the color and his crew did a great job painting the house.  The were thorough and the work was done quickly. <br /> Finally, when all the work was completed, the city inspector had a couple of minor things that needed to be done to bring the work up to code for the city.  Scott and his team got the work done quickly. <br /> We referred Tradition to a couple of friends and would use them again. <br />

I recommend Tradition Roofing and Exteriors whole heartedly. Their work is top-notch and their people are knowledgeable and friendly. <br /> <br /> Before contacting Tradition, I received an estimate from one of ?those? kind of roofing companies - You know the type, the ones that come by and leave a business card if your door and when you ask them to check out your roof they, of course, say you need and entirely new roof. When Scott Landa (who, in the interest of full disclosure, is the husband of a former coworker) came out to take a look at my roof he had an entirely different, and thankfully less expensive, opinion. After a quick repair, Scott was able to fix the area of my roof that I was concerned about. As he was leaving, I asked if I needed a new roof. Scott?s answer was no. <br /> <br /> I not only appreciated Scott?s professionalism, but also his honesty. I?m sure he would have loved to put an entirely new roof on my home, but it wasn?t needed and he was able to accurately assess the situation and didn?t rip me off. When the time comes that I do need a new roof, I?ll be giving Tradition Roofing and Exteriors a call. <br />

My overall experience with Tradition roofing was excellent.  They stripped out the old roofing and installed the new shingles.  They also cleaned up the lot thoroughly after the job was done.  I am very happy with the professionalism of Tradition roofing.  I found a contractor that I will be using forever. <br />

I had a flat roof deck that had been leaking into my garage for several years causing a water problem.  Stu was awesome to work with.  He was extremely professional, and went out of his way to ensure he could stop by and talk with my brother who was doing the deck pull-apart and rebuild so that they could coordinate their efforts in the most efficient and cost-effective manner -- and determine exactly who was doing which pieces of the work.  Working together they were able to come up with some creative solutions and talk themselves through some of the complexities of what was/wasn't needed on the project that ended up saving a lot of money in the long run. <br /> They also did some gutter work/downspout replacement that had been recommended by an inspector that advised on several other 'leak' problems around the house -- and put on gutter guards at the same time.  I haven't been through a season with them yet, but they seem to be working fine so far. <br /> I had several other bids which were 2-3 times the amount of Stu's bid -- and they spent far less time understanding and evaluating the problem.  I would absolutely recommend Stu and Tradition Roofing -- and also appreciate that they were willing to take a fair amount of time estimating and coming up with a solution in what for me was a big problem (leaky garage leading to mold), but a fairly small dollar job compared to most of their projects.  I can't say enough good things. <br />

After receiving an estimate they ordered custom skylights for me. It took around eight weeks for the skylights to arrive. I was contacted when the skylights arrived and the work was scheduled about a week later. The workers were there exactly as scheduled.. As the work commenced some unforeseen damage was discovered which was quickly repaired at a fair price.

Ultimately, I decided to hire Tradition Roofing because their bid came in much lower than the other estimates I received, and I was able to upgrade from the standard three-tab shingles for a nominal charge. The estimate I received was also more detailed than any of the others I received, so I felt more confident about the services I would be receiving. Additionally, I appreciated that there wasn't any pressure to sign a contract the day the estimate was given. <br /> <br /> I didn't have any problems setting a date for installation, although that date was delayed for a day due to another project taking longer than expected. My roofs (house and garage) only took a day to install; the workers were efficient, and I appreciated the fact that they stayed a bit later into the day to finish my roof before the rain came through that evening. The roof itself looks great, and I'm very happy with the way it turned out. <br /> <br /> The two things that were somewhat lacking involved cleanup and overall communication. Regarding the cleanup: a reasonable job was done around the yard - there was some debris left in the shrubs from the tear-down, but I realize it is a messy project so I wasn't overly concerned about it. The floor of my garage, however, was littered with roofing nails which I didn't notice until after I had already driven my car into the garage. Unfortunately, I ended up needing a new tire. Communication following completion of the job was fair. First, despite a few phone calls, a pile of unused shingles ended up sitting in my front yard for quite a while after the job was complete (the grass beneath wasn't too happy about that). Second, the contractor didn't show on the day he said he would be by to do the final inspection and collect the remaining payment, and my phone call that day went unanswered until the next. <br /> <br /> Overall, as I mentioned, I am happy with the roofs themselves and feel that I received a good value; deficiencies in cleanup and communication were the two factors that caused me to assign a lower overall rating.

We added on some things and the final cost was between $10-11,000. We interviewed several roofers before we chose them. They were extremely easy to work with. We had a number of requirements that we wanted incorporated into the roof and they willingly did all of them. We worked with Stu Hudson. He was a pleasure to work with and anything that came up, he took care of. He did what he said he was going to do and more.
