What they did was great, but they didn't finish. They left a pile of trash in my front yard. They would never return my phone calls or emails.

Hiring Vantage Point is the biggest mistake we have ever made. We were drawn in by a competitive price and the claim that they were a family company with family values, but the biggest selling point was a ?4 day? completion time, which was promised to us time and again. Well, a project we believed would be completed in a long weekend turned into a 3 month long disaster. We were pleased with communication and the process right up until we signed the contract. After that, it was like a switch had flipped, and everything quickly and surely went downhill. Communication was no longer a priority, and we felt completely in the dark most of the time. If we asked for an update, we always initiated the contact and usually had to make multiple attempts before getting a call back. <br /> <br /> We experienced 3 different crews throughout the course of our project. The first crew simply never showed up. The second crew (an older gentleman in his 80?s named Willy, who is related to the owners) informed us on Day 1 that they almost didn?t show up because they weren?t getting paid for their recent jobs. They stuck around and worked for several weeks (slowly, because there were no more than 2 workers at a time) but eventually bailed because of escalated arguments with Matt and Katie that they weren?t getting enough money for the materials they needed to continue. The 3rd crew also told us they weren?t getting paid for their recent jobs, but eventually came out and finished the siding, and the painter Albert (who, yet again, told us he was worried about getting paid) came separately at the very end. <br /> <br /> I could write several pages detailing everything that went wrong, but here are some highlights: <br /> - Having to store all materials in our home for a month since the first crew never came and Matt and Katie tried to push the <br /> start date back without consulting us. This included several 26-foot-long boxes of vinyl siding that had nowhere to go but the main level of our home, where they sat for weeks. (We were told Katie would call us the day of delivery to schedule a pick-up and have them stored in their warehouse until the project began, but to no one?s surprise, we never heard back from her about it.) <br /> -  After the disastrous first attempt, we looked into breaking the contract and taking our business elsewhere. Matt threatened <br /> that the materials that we paid for that were sitting on our property belonged to him. We consulted a lawyer and this was absolutely not the case. We decided to give them a second chance and continue, but this was unfortunately another mistake on our part. <br /> - Incorrect ordering of several of our materials: two windows were ordered in the wrong size, 4 inches off (so those took an additional three weeks to come in), the shutters were ordered in the incorrect color, as was the corner trim. Matt took no responsibility for these mistakes and ensured us it must have been the warehouse that messed it up. <br /> - Having to fund the project entirely on our own, including paying the manufacturers/painter directly for the materials and <br /> paying several more deposits along the way so that the crew could purchase materials like nails. One of the days Matt came to pick up a $1500 check from us, he drove to our house in a new car with 60 day tags. <br /> - Appalling clean-up of the final siding crew. They lost our doorbell, trash was left all over (I?m still picking up pieces of trim and nails/screws when doing yard work almost a year later), their personal trash was thrown into our yard waste bags, and someone?s sweaty t shirt was simply left in the middle of our driveway. <br /> - Meeting Katie and the 2nd crew leader, Willy, at a bank to have notarized lien waivers signed before allowing Vantage Point to bring the 3rd crew out to finish the project. Because the fact that they weren?t getting paid for their work was such a large factor, we needed to protect ourselves from them coming after us for the pay they didn?t receive. This did not stop Willy from calling us several weeks later saying he still hadn?t gotten paid and that he?d be taking the matter to court. <br /> - Arguing with Katie about paying the final balance, which we refused to do until we had signed lien waivers by all the crews involved that we would not be responsible for the money owed for their labor. We received messages from Katie like ?help us out, because budgets are tight? and ?I need the money really bad.? <br /> <br /> We waited a long time to write this review because we wanted to distance ourselves and share our honest experience with some perspective. Even now, almost a year later, I'm horrified to recall everything we were subjected to. We are reminded of the stress and agony every time we pick up another nail or screw from our landscaping. After all this time, Vantage Point just attempted to add us on LinkedIn, so somehow they deluded themselves into thinking that the absence of our review meant it was forgotten.  <br /> <br /> Do yourself  a favor and stay far, far away. Find a company that communicates with you and that doesn?t ask for a dime, apart from a deposit, until the project is completed and done to your satisfaction. Don't let their price fool you. Believe us, picking a company with integrity is truly worth several thousand more out of your pocket. But if you're really feeling brave, our advice to you: do your homework. Not just on this company but on the individuals themselves. You need to know exactly who is working for you, so do your due diligence.

They were okay. On a scale of 1 to 10 on the installation, I would give them an 8. It was good but there was a dilemma. We ordered the windows in the end of August or first of September. The did not get the windows and install them until December. It took forever and a day to the point where I actually contacted the attorney. I paid the half down and I was going to pay the other half. He put me off. I don't really know if ti was his fault that he might be so small. I don't know what the reason was. They took on actually purchase and delivery. I don't know if I will ever use them again. They're excellent and nice people. The installation was perfect. I haven't had too much trouble with the windows. They were on the high end. I knew that one going into it and I was okay with that. He's a nice guy and I would use him again.

VantagePoint Exteriors has told me several times they have purchased product but have not delivered nor provided proof of product purchase.  Moreover, on two occasions they have confirmed they would meet with me and did not show nor advise they could not make it.  Company is now non-responsive to my inquiries and they have over $9000 of my dollars.

Do not use this company!  Angie's List totally let us down on this one.  After they completed our job, we found that they had been banned from Angie's List under the name Beautiful Exteriors, and have multiple BBB complaints and even lawsuits filed against them.  <br /> A few examples of our experience: <br /> -Signed the contract in October, job not complete until April. Four separate times we were told someone would be out on X day (even the very next day!) and then they no-showed/no-called, with no follow-up or explanation from Vantage Point. <br /> -They didn't place a dumpster for the haul-away of siding on the front of our house; the crew just threw all the boards, nails and other items in our driveway and yard.  We had to call several times to get them to come take it all away - and even when they did, nails and chunks of wood were still all over our yard.  We have little kids who run barefoot in the summer - not ok!  <br /> -They were weird about money.  Wanted us to write checks to the sub-contractors, asked us to tell them not to deposit other checks until a future time, etc. Not something we wanted to be involved in. <br /> Ironically the work their crews did was actually pretty good, it was just a very frustrating experience.

Vantage Point Exteriors used subcontractors for all of the work. They did not do the driveway correctly as there was a french drain that did not work because it was installed improperly.  I had to have it torn out and redone by another provider that I had to pay an additional $7662.56.   They wrote the roofer a bad check for $4500 that bounced and then he came back saying I needed to give him more money to pay the roofer.   Which I refused as I had already paid Vantage Point Exteriors for the job, the roofing company did a great job though.  The siding guy had been given a $1,500 down payment but that was it so I paid him directly the additional $3,500 as he did a beautiful job.  If I had gone through Vantage Point Exteriors he would have charged me and additional $5,000 for the siding job.  After he bounced the check with the roofers I fired him.  He continued to contact me trying to get more money which I refused as I had fired him as he violated the contract we had signed.  I finally called the police as he was continuing to harass me for money that I did not owe him as he never delivered on everything I had already paid him for.  They have stolen money from me as I paid them for materials and work I never received.  I would not wish this experience on anyone and hope that this will warn others from using them and going through this.

<p>1/16/14 - We signed the contract and put half down of $1732 to install 6 new windows, install a front screen door (we purchased at Lowe's), and install a back door (we purchased at Lowe's) in our home.</p> <p>3/10/14 - We decided to go ahead with an egress window.  We went ahead and paid $3500 for the whole thing THINKING that the egress window would be installed with the other work SOON...after all it had been 2 months. </p> <p>Matt and Katie told us they would pick up and deliver the doors.  Months later and after many calls to them, our daughter Sarah had to borrow a pickup to bring the doors home.  (Lowe's was very patient with us, but called several times to remind us they were holding the doors we had paid for and it was becoming necessary for someone to pick up the doors.)</p> <p>We have made many calls, e-mails, texts with few responses throughout the past 10 months.  My last text was on Katie's Face Book  page asking her to contact us.  While on the page I saw they recently enjoyed a tropical family vacation and Katie wrote how they enjoy vacations every other month.  I do not enjoy intruding on someone's personal space to contact them for business reasons...but I had run out of any other means to contact them.</p> <p>Our daughter Sarah tried to set up several appointments (Katie said they could do the work on a Saturday so Sarah would not have to take off from work.)</p> <p>When Matt finally set up an appointment for 9 a.m. he did not show or call...My daughter lost a days work waiting for him.</p> <p>This happened a second time as well.</p> <p>When they did happen to answer our calls, we were asked to call them back or we would hear "You are a priority...thank you for being patient...you have been very patient...kindest regards ."</p> <p>We finally got the windows in Memorial Weekend...but they did not have what was necessary to finish the inside of the windows.  Months later after more calls, texts, e-mails I got ahold of Matt and Katie at home.  Matt made arrangements for someone to stop the next day to finish the job.  But, Matt said they did not have our $1768.  He even doubted me and I had to send a copy of the receipt...this was after several letters with all the details of our experience and what I expected.  We haven't heard from them since...no replies to our calls, e-mails, and texts.</p> <p>In Addition...when I tried to send a certified letter with our expectations and complaints if was returned with no forwarding address.  What business does not forward their mail to the "new" address?</p> <p>This has been a time and energy sucking experience.  It makes me wonder if the product or installation is any good.  I am sure the 25 year warranty they gave us is as worthless as the paper it is written on.</p>

Signed contract with them but had a terrible time communicating regarding design.  Many 'misunderstandings' and lots of confusion surrounded the project.  Most times that I tried calling, there was a distraction in the background or some emergency that they had to deal with.  Their attention seemed to always be elsewhere.  Very unclear and unprofessional when it came to the contract.  I asked multiple times to receive a formal invoice and not until the final payment did I receive one.  They did not invest anything into the project.  I had to finance the entire thing.  Matt told me before work began that he would be by 'every day' to oversee things.  Turns out he came by halfway through to stick a sign in our yard, then again to collect final payment.  Fortunately, my job allowed me the time to essentially be the contractor and do his job for him.  He subcontracted almost all of the work, which I was unaware of when signing the contract.  Fortunately, the people he hired did great work.  If I had known that I would be financing and overseeing the job myself, I would have hired these subcontractors myself.  He made roughly $5000 on a $29000 job (17% profit) for basically giving me the phone numbers of the people who would do the work.  There are many other reliable home improvement companies out there that have the capital to and the resources to do the job much better.  I would not recommend them for any future projects.  Too poor of communication and professionalism. <br />

We singed a contract in November, they started working in December, and I just gave him the final check this month. It was a fight every step of the way. They seem to be really nice people, and the final result was good, it was just always difficult to get them out to do the work and there was always something that came up.

Bad, VERY BAD! Roof taken off and replaced ok. All siding and house wrap removed and FOUR WEEKS later, they started the windows and siding. This was the coldest part of the winter and no siding raised all my heating costs. If they were not going to start the siding work, why did all of my old siding have to be removed?! Windows put in but not finished! The nail holes were not filled and trim was not painted. Siding put up and gutters replaced. At this point all work stopped. After two months of trying to make contact with Matt and Katie with no luck I had to hire another contractor to finish the work! Now, I can not get the receipts from Matt and Katie to even prove that the work that was done was completed! So no warranty on any work even from manufacturers and no tax refund for energy efficient windows. I did record a video for them before work was completed that I did in good faith that they would finish - silly me! They did not finish the work and they will not remove it from their web site. If I had it to do all over again, Vantage Point Exteriors would NOT be on the list! I will not be working with them again and I suggest that you do not start! <br />

When I first looked at them and signed the contract all was fairly good on Angies List, then they got de-listed for past business practices. <br /> The project: <br /> Extremely poor communications, I had to initiate all followup. Lots of excuses from them, some of them a bit off the wall. I took a week off of my business travel to be here for the project and they never showed up. Had to take a second week. Also, they are evidently not listed as an authorized Hardie installer on Hardie's site. That does not seem to affect warranty thankfully. <br /> It is also apparent that the owners can not fund their projects or payroll and we had to pay for all materials and then they ask for immediate progress payments to pay the crew.  Then with the material leftovers they "get" you and the returned product refunds go to them via the distributor after pick up. Vantage Point did not offer any refund option for materials returned yet we paid for them. We also got no break in markup for product since we paid and more or less funded (we were the bank)  this project. <br /> The actual crew for the Hardie siding was great and per the distributor they are the best crew in town for Hardie. They subcontract to the owners so you may get other crews on your project. Workmanship seems to be spot on but again, this is the crew. Painters were good too but again, had to call in my credit card number when they went to get the paint.  <br /> You will have to project manage them if you decide to use them but I would wait until there is a clearer picture of just who they are, what their past business practices have actually been and that they are financially strong enough to fund the projects. Per other postings on other sites they have had other businesses in the past where there is controversy. <br /> This is the first time Angie's list has let me down due to slow action to de-list the company and also take action to have them remove their Angie's list service awards from their advertising. Thankfully the crew that did the work was top notch. Oh, and there will probably be a response from Vantage Point, there is a pattern to their responses....read carefully. <br />

It was not a design consultation as advertised, it was paying $99. for an estimate for new siding. If I had known it was just an estimate I would not have purchased it. I needed a real design consultation for my house and yard. My Wife is p***** we spent $99.00 for what should have been a free estimate. <br />
Response from Vantage Point Exteriors
"We came at the appointed time and spent two hours with the homeowner. They had several projects they were looking to execute. We gave them countless design ideas for the exterior of their home. If they feel they need a reimbursement for the $99, we will be glad to send it to them. We have not received any calls, emails or text regarding the disappointment of this customer. If there is anything else I can do... I will be glad to send more design ideas or refund the $99. Katie Hazen"

The service turned out well. They actually ended up siding the entire home. They were very good at designing the color of the siding and had great recommendations since I had no idea what I was looking for. The computer technology was great as far as coming up with the design. I was very pleased with the outcome of the service. The technicians who did the siding were always on time. Scheduling was very easy, as well. Ab

They told us that the work would begin on January 27th, but they did not show up.  This company states that James Hardy Siding recommends them.  They are not listed as a premier remolding company on James Hardy?s website as they stated. They tore stucco off of the house where the stone was to be.   A week later we could not reach his stone representative.  Once his representative was reached they told us they could not match the stone.  They did find another company for us and we worked together to get the stone problem fixed which upped the contract, but we were willing to do this.  Once this stone issue was resolved all communication went downhill.  We called and sent several text messages as well as emails and they were unresponsive or very short with us. We had to talk directly with the sub-contractor, schedule things with them, and had to oversee the work because of the lack of response.  Once we did hear from them they continued to tell us that the job was completed, but it wasn?t, and that they needed their money or a lean would be put on our home. We understood that shutters were in the contract due to them being on our home at time of removal as well as on the approved work list. But the company insisted that they were not on the contract and our responsibility despite agreeing to put them on the house. We finally gave in and paid them for the shutters because they threated the lean. Our job took over 100 days but is finally completed.   Again, this company threatened us and said they would put a lean on our house before the work was even finished. We had already paid out $24,000 of the contract. Last contact was 5-16-14 when the sub-contractor came to finish the work and we gave the last of payment and told them not to use us as a recommendation. The work done on our home was fantastic, but it was all done through sub-contractors not Vantage Point Exteriors. <br /> <br /> Response to Vantage Point (June 2014) <br /> I am disappointed that our work oriented review was responded to with personal attacks. I hope everyone who reads this review takes note of how they handled their response to our comments.   <br /> <br /> Just a few notes in response to their feedback since such a large portion of it was in accurate. <br /> <br /> 1. We did negotiate our price, as any good budget oriented person would do and we did not strong arm them into an offer.  In fact they came back to us after our verbal agreement and said they under bid and we agree to pay a bit more.  We were not extended in anyway, what we shared with them was that we were choosing between a kitchen remodel and the exterior. We chose the exterior, we simple decided not to invest $100K this year - but that is none of their business. We had no other offers - I'm not sure where that one came from.   <br /> <br /> 2.  We did not have any issues with mold, in fact, this review is the first we've heard of that.  We are now reaching out to the subcontractor to see if there was mold and they did not report it to us.  We chose to remove the stucco because we wanted the front to match the sides of our home and make it maintenance free.  We will look into this claim further... <br /> <br /> 3. We had no communication from them that they wished to pull out of the project That would have been good to know.   <br /> <br /> 4.  Small design changes and fighting, we have to admit things became strained when working with Matt and Katie and there was one conversation where we (owners) disagreed with each other while on the phone with them.  That was unfortunate, but working with this company and struggling to get done had just reached a high point.  Personally, if we didn't demonstrate any stress over 100 day project I think we'd be the odd ones!  Again, I feel it's rude of Matt and Katie to put this in a response to a review.   <br /> <br /> 5.  "Overt actions the wife made toward my husband" this one we're not sure about if they are insinuating inappropriate comments or strong language so we suppose the imagination runs free at this point.  One thing we will say - is we both laughed very hard at this one.  Seriously?   <br /> <br /> 6. We don't recall telling them a bad review was coming but I think they already knew.  We did tell them not to use us as a reference. <br /> <br /> 7.  Katie and Matt we kept our promise by not sharing the bid amount with Angie's list or our neighbors because you did give us a nice deal.  <br /> <br /> Honestly we feel like suckers.  They tell everyone the same story - getting married at 18 - use have a "blessed day" in their emails - they are on Angie's list so I trusted that they were honest good people and right up until the last few weeks where mean - threatening emails started coming.  We were really trying to save some people the heart-ache of potentially going through the same experience we did by giving a professional review.  It's sad the Matt and Katie decided to make it personal and write many untrue and frankly mean personal things.  <br /> <br /> If you are thinking of working with them, just consider how they treated us, this client, in a public forum, without shame.  <br />
Response from Vantage Point Exteriors
"Some projects more is learned from than others. We had a blind heart for this young family because they have a giant house in Johnson County and were openly quite extended. They needed real help, real fast. In their words we gave them the only affordable bid they had and then still talked us down another $3,000. They had mold problems underneath their front stucco, uninsulated walls in their home exterior walls, rotted siding throughout. We were inches from pulling out of the project on 3 occasions before start due to their tactics to us in slightly trying to add and add to the work scope, their malicious fighting towards one another on small design changes, with certain overt actions the wife had made towards my husband that was way past crossing the line, and with their threats of a bad review which has now become true. When you have a heart and passion for what you do in your profession, and you perform a lot of huge projects in this community there will be jobs like this that from time to time occur. The only subcontractors on this job was the concrete company that pulled down their front stone, and the painters that we reserved their help due to over 40' in awkward spaces that we needed a commercial rated paint company to step in. Here is our summary of the project. Vantage Point Exteriors remodeling company for less than $30,000 gave a truly jaw dropping new home which contained cement crown molding, rock accent porch posts, stoned accent area on front main gable, extensive woodrot replacement, insulated over 500' of wall cavities, new James Hardie precolored cement siding, and duration quality paint on all areas on exterior which did not have any new siding. This home is over 4500 square feet, keep in mind please. So we had an enormously big and difficult multiphase exterior renovation for an Angie's List member. This member knew we only took the job to help them, they know for an all out fact that we lost over $4,000 on the job in the end. And we still came out to perform all the numerous punchlist items. We have our crew leaders on our separate fulltime crews that are mandated to handle midjob changes and issues that arise directly with the customers. This is normal in a remodeling companies dynamics. The members have a mansion in Johnson County that now contains precolored cement siding, and extensive stone accents, that would of cost them over $45,000 with any other company. And their home and the work for them looks absolutely perfect. People live with the quality of products, quality of installation, and the overall cost. They would have to rate us a 100 percent in those critical categories. Some people you can do a perfect job for, give them a new home like no other, and even lose money and they still will try to use the internet to take a pop shot. BUT if they ever need any service of any type from any of our work, we will of course take care of them. We wish them well if we don't hear from them again. Katie(owner)"

After ordering, there was at least 4-6 months that went by before our order came in.  The work of installation was adequate, but the problems became more than just a long wait with the office windows that were installed.  Once those windows were installed, the exterior office door was installed and it had no keyed entry.  Our employees had no way to enter the office without us being there to let them in.  I got an argument from Vantage Point about why we needed a keyed entry, even though we were clear about the need to replace that door with the same kind of key-lock entry door we had originally.  The replacement door did not come for 6 or more months, even though I called repeatedly.   <br /> Early last fall I noticed that one of our home windows that Vantage Point had installed had moisture between the panes of glass.  I called Vantage Point in September 2013 and they said that they would order a replacement window.  I have called monthly to ask about this window.  Here it is May 2014 and that window still needs to be replaced.  Every time I do make contact with Vantage Point, they assure me that they will be coming out the next week, or that the window is on order.  Nothing ever happens <br /> DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. <br />
Response from Vantage Point Exteriors
"This customer is justified in her opinion of our project with her. It should be noted that they were happy enough in their first round of 15 windows and 2 12' wide french doors that they ordered custom solar shade blinds from us for those windows and doors. And then they added on their third contract with us with another 10 windows and 6' French front door for their doctor office. We had to enter into a multiparty lawsuit with the distributor of these manufacturered windows. We can not attain the replacement parts and have communicated this to the customer. Her windows were very specific in interior and exterior color so we are hesitant in putting a different manufactured window there because of an obvious aesthetic discrepancy. We have asked her for her idea on a positive resolution. In all we installed 25 huge triple glass vinyl clad windows, and 3 doors. They have a total service issue of 1 seal failured sash. A D rating is excessive considering their spending of over $24,000 on a window and door overhaul in their home based doctor's office and they have 1 sash service that we have no current control over resolving. We do offer a fair refund on her sash, or any other option she would entertain. Katie(owner )"

If she needs anything in the future she can call us and we will be there. Katie and Matt"

They never did show up.  I paid the money for the big deal.  They never did call me up and they never did the work.  I contacted them twice, but they never returned my call.  They called me in February.  I told them that my great grandbaby is in ICU and asked them to call me a week later.  I got home from the hospital and they sent me an email.  They wrote that they had lost my phone number and I answered the email & gave them my telephone number; but never heard nothing else from them.  I won't use them.  They were not responsive.  I would say they failed. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />We did eventually work out our differences, and we just didn't see eye to eye. I think they are a good company and probably do a good job, they just failed me. I think they were probably just too busy and involved with other projects.

"This member is correct with her timeline. Her phone was disconnected and we reached out to her via email. The weather has broke and we have been overwhelmed with work. She did not get the timeliness and efficiency from our company that our customers are accustomed to. If we install her gutters it will be at a substantially less cost due to the service she has received thus far. Matt"

The siding product is the best quality.   The work was done with professionalism and close attention to detail.   The team doing the work was professional and friendly.  Everyone we worked with cared about getting the work done right.   Our questions were promptly answered and we would recommend the product, James Hardie fiber cement siding and Vantage Point Exteriors.

"These members have been mmarried since they were 18. The gentleman fought for us in multiple tours. It was such an honor to work for them. They had all their front stucco removed, and we fixed all their rot and mold underneath. They had 6 windows installed and new James Hardie precolored cement siding with multiple accents and designer pieces. We loved helping these people and getting to work for them. They are awesome, genuine people. Matt and Katie"

My siding project was started late in the year. I was concerned about the crew getting caught in the cold weather but they were well prepared and every morning they were ready to go. The crew jumped right into the tasks with little guidance and stayed busy all day. They talked and joked frequently but that seemed to keep their mood and energy up. There were few problems except for some cold mornings and frost that could affect ladder work.  Also included was new Sherwin Williams 20 year paint  on the wood trim  and 3 kitchen windows were installed. I noticed a remarkable increase in comfort inside this past very cold winter after the house was wrapped with HardieWrap and the new siding. The job finished more or less on time and looks great.

"This members entire old wood lap siding was brought down to the underneath sheathing. We replaced all the underneath woodrot. Took pictures for his assurance on the underlying issues being addressed properly. We wrapped his entire home in premium Hardie house wrap. Installed 3 new thermal casement windows. Installed precolored James Hardie cement siding and trim. Painted all soffit and fascia with Sherwin Williams duration quality paint. We are happy he was pleased with the experience of us transforming his home that him and his wife raised their kids in in our Leawood community. Matt and Katie"

it went horrible.. at first it was fine got everything up but then to get them back to do the other things was horrible.. always had excuses of why they couldn't come and finish it.. like well we are finishing this other job.. well last time i checked you don't start another job without finishing the first job. I had trash in my yard that i had to beg to get rid off.. all in all my house still not done.. i would never recommend this company.. Never.. <br />

"Our Angie's List business page shows the members name and address. We have no contract with this member, and no previous email trail of any type. This kinda review, and it's malicious implications are very alarming to a hard working, caring contract company. Matt and Katie"
