We never heard from William Quave or Veteran's Construction, after repeated requests to call or texts to replace the faulty concrete or refund the moneys.

When he first started it went well. After the first 3 weeks, he kept having "personal problems" My main concern is my children have been forced to stay in their rooms for the whole summer because the services have not been completed. I cannot do anything in my back yard because there is so much garbage back there including nails on the ground. The floor is only plywood (unfinished), the windows are not sealed because the dry wall and sheet rock is not completed, and the door is not secure. He has made a lot of promises but has not fulfilled those. This was supposed to be completed by June 2nd. We are now 2 months past the due date. I have paid him the majority of the dues that were agreed upon but the services are not completed.

Billy Quave with Veteran Construction, met with us on March 21, 2016 for about 1 hour. We told him we wanted our patio extended out to the side of the house. It measure 18 feet by 10 feet. We agreed that Billy would build a Cedar Pergola set in a concrete slab to match the existing patio. Billy stated he was finishing up a job and would start our patio on March 28. No Billy on March 28 or anytime that week During April, it did rain a few days at a time, but there were a lot of days with no rain. Billy would promise us that a crew would be over and no one would show up. First week of May, we had to go out of town for a Family funeral. Finally on May 13, Billy and a crew showed up to pour the concrete slab. While the crew was finishing working the concrete, Billy and Crew was talking about how terrible it was looking. Billy stated the concrete was poured in hot weather and was not worked fast enough and was not kept wet enough. Billy promised he would stand behind his work and would do what ever it took to correct it. Over the next few weeks Billy would not answer his phone or any texts I would send. Finally Billy came out with a representative of the Concrete Company who looked at the Concrete and told Billy he did not work the concrete fast enough and it was Billy's fault. On 06/22 Billy brought out a Concrete Contractor who told Billy the slab could not be salvaged and had to be torn out and new concrete poured in. Billy stated the expense of the new concrete was his to pay. Billy shook the man's hand, looked him in the eyes, told him to be at my house on 06/23 and Billy would have him a check for the work. Later that night Billy called me and stated he was not using this man as his price was too high. Billy stated he would have 2 cement men over the next day . None showed and no calls from Billy. After several calls and texts over the next few days, Billy called me on Monday, 06/27 and stated if I wanted the concrete replaced I must pay for it to be done as he has not the money to pay the first Cement man as he had promised him. I still have a slab on concrete attached to my patio that Billy, his crew, a Concrete Company Rep and a Concrete Contractor have all said should be removed and replaced. We paid Billy Quave and Veteran Construction halve down when signing the contract. Billy likes to throw around the word "Veteran". Billy does a great disservice to all Veterans. When we finally got Billy out to pour the concrete slab, Billy played upon my Wife's feelings, by telling her that he was low on funds and could not pay his crew. He needed an advance on the last half so he could pay his crew. My Wife gave him even more so his crew would get paid. Billy Quave does not stand behind his word, does not honor his contact, and does not stand behind his work.

I originally hired William Quave of Veteran Construction to do a shower remodel, and ended up using him to do just about everything else my husband & I needed done for our new home short of moving us in. This is our first home & while we'd heard horror stories over the years regarding contractors, we never paid much attention since we never needed one (we've been lifelong renters). We assumed it would be easy to find someone reliable but um...no. I met with several contractors who either wanted to charge way too much, tried to pressure us into something we didn't want, or just totally flaked out on us...as in, we approved their estimate and then never heard from them again. Seriously?!? I don't know WHAT that's all about, but luckily, I stumbled across the review for Veteran Construction. William is pretty much everything you want in a contractor: completely and utterly reliable, reasonable and helpful beyond belief. As i mentioned, the original job was to rip out an existing shower & build a new one from scratch. That was done to perfection (we LOVE our new gorgeous shower). He went over every detail with me, explained every bit of work prior to doing it, and made suggestions I hadn't even thought of. Pretty much every day I came up with other things I wanted to hire him to do, and he & his crew performed spectacularly at every turn. Besides the fact that he's great at what he does, he is also something else that apparently is somewhat lacking in this profession: he is courteous & trustworthy. We are from NYC, so you can imagine that we don't easily trust a stranger in our home when we're not there, but I never gave it a second thought handing him the keys. I have absolutely no doubt that if/when there are other jobs i need done around here that I will be hiring him again.
Who doesn't want to support a veteran owned small business?
I needed to get my home rent ready so I used Angie's List to query contractors in the area. I contacted William and he was very professional and courteous. His team is comprised mainly of veterans and as a retired vet I was able to build rapport and exchange Army stories with them. More importantly, they were willing to impart good ideas that helped me save $$$. As promised, he did good work for a fair price. William even surprised me at the hardware store to assist me with identifying the best paint colors and materials. However, the work took a little longer than expected. Fortunately, William was in constant communication with me, all the while putting my mind at ease. It was all worth it because the results were astounding! I found renters for the house one week later and I must admit I think it was the great job William did on my house that made it rent so quickly. I definitely plan to using Veterans Construction again in the future.
We decided to sell our home and it needed a major facelift before we put it on the market. At the time my husband was deployed to Afghanistan and it was a daunting task for me to do alone. I received Billy (owner/operator) Quave's information from a friend and had him come over to talk about my plans. I was thinking it would cost a fortune and I had a very small budget that had to include carpet and installation as well. Billy came to my house we looked at each room and went over in detail what I was thinking, he was very helpful in letting me know what to expect and what all would be done through all phases; from prep work through to the finished project. We estimated it would take 7-10 full days to complete. It took only 7 he worked tirelessly with his crew from early until late to make sure my family wouldn't be inconvenienced for a long period of time and I was able to still utilize bathrooms and kitchen through the process. Before we began Billy and his wife came over and helped me finalize my decisions on paint and flooring; it isn't easy for to make decisions like that and their professional eye and opinion was really helpful with this! Each wall and my ceilings recovered two coats of paint after he had fixed all the dry wall issues, the colors they helped me choose made my house feel so big and so bright which is hard in a house without many windows. All my doors (including closets) were taken down, sprayed, and rehung. Flooring and other small things like light fixtures were done last. The job I was most impressed with though was my kitchen cabinets. I had very faded cherry stained cabinetry in the kitchen, I was so frustrated with them and was at the point where I wanted to just paint them instead of sanding and restraining. Billy suggested a steel wool treatment and a clear coat over them so I went ahead and let him try. They looked brand new, and were smooth and easy to clean. Everyone that has seen them before commented on how new they looked. I was so happy with everything and the load that was taken off of my shoulders from hiring veteran Construction to do this. I was able to put my house on the market 3 months sooner than I had anticipated, I also received full asking price. The two greatest things about the realty side; my realtor was so impressed with the house she had no suggestions for me to do anything to get it market ready AND the best thing .. I sold my home in under 30 days (24 to be exact) and received 3 offers my first on the 9th day. In this market, especially in this area most homes sit for 6 months to a year with a for sale sign out front. Had I not gone with this professional I know my home wouldn't have sold so quickly. Best investment I ever made in my home, wonderful professionals to work with and I came in under budget so they were very reasonably priced especially for the quality received. I would recommend Veteran Construction to anyone needing any kind of work in their home or business. Billy can literally do practically anything!
