Bill and his crew had been digging up the road a few feet from my front door for a couple of weeks in order to replace my neighbor's septic system with city sewerage. Knowing of Malden's lead-copper regulations, he offered to replace my lead water line while he was working in this area. In spite of the incorrect piping plans supplied by the city's Engineering Department, Bill was able to locate the shut-off for my service (which was buried under several layers of asphalt), do the excavation, and replace my lead pipe with copper. I hired him without getting a second estimate because I was impressed by the work he was doing for my neighbor, because a different neighbor told me his price sounded reasonable, and because the staff at the Engineering Department said that he was a "good guy" and in fact did some work for the city. I gave him a "B" rating on Price because he never mentioned/offered his 10% Senior Discount to this 75-year old lady.

Bill moved soil away from our foundation and placed a retaining wall there. He also had placed a material on the foundation to keep away moisture. That material is peeling off of the foundation and needs to be repaired. Bill has been contacted multiple times to do something about this. Occasionally we hear that he will come and look at it, but after several months of waiting we are giving up. He doesn't stand by his work so I wouldn't use him.

It was fantastic. Billy and one of his colleagues came out the morning after I reported my issue, and they had my water running within an hour! Would highly recommend.

It went absolutely fabulous! I had had several estimates and everyone had different suggestions. I went with W. Callahan Excavation because he was very knowledgable, had great suggestions and was extremely reasonable. I had my driveway widened and paved, extra parking with stone, new grass seeding, leveling of side yard, new retaining wall and stairs. Bill and his team surpassed my expectations, all at a very reasonable cost. When they were finished, I was amazed at the final outcome. BEAUTIFUL! Even the front stairs look amazing. I would highly recommend this company, very professional!

Mr. Callahan gave the best of 3 quotes for the job. His price was similar to the others, but his attention to detail and willingness to quote a total price instead of an open-ended daily rate made his the best. The job was executed very well, beginning to end. It took a bit of extra work to restore every detail to its original condition, but Mr. Callahan took care of it all. We are completely satisfied.

Highly recommend them. Every step along way was positive! Bill responded immediately to calls, very helpful with questions and reachable by Cell for follow-up. Arrived on time and very professional. We had a plumbing drainage problem; one plumber had visited and felt our exterior drain pipe may have been cracked just outside foundation. Once Callahan excavated the ground open, pipe was not cracked by foundation. Bill showed us one joint to be repaired/adjusted and suggested us hiring a drain cleaning company anticipating tree roots. (Next we hired drain company who got through backup and along with video, found tree roots got through seam but thankfully no cracks in pipe.) With the joint adjusted, we can better monitor if future backup. During project Callahan also secured plywood over area to protect from rain; locked area was not accessible to public. When we called to schedule completion, in spite of us being a small job - again Callahan was available quickly to return. During second visit and refilling, they went above and beyond in also removing and disposing some scraps that were in ground. Thanks again! Highly recommend their services! <br />

Perfect!  We can't recommend Bill Callahan and the job his men did higher.  The yard was landscapted and a backhoe would do major damage thus they hand dug the trench.   <br /> Bill was quick to handle the job, careful work, and left the place looking like no work had been done.  He is wonderful to work with and I am so glad we found his listing on Angies with so many positive reviews thus we hired him. <br />

After years of living in a house without a basement I gave up.  I had many estimates however no one seemed interested in a project of this scope.  Not only was Bill interested, he had done many of them over the years.  He started promptly in March and moved right along through the summer finishing up a few months ago.  I could not be happier and wished that I had found Bill and done this years ago.  Would highly recommend Bill and his team without reservations. <br />

I called these guys in the fall to dig a dry well - they were booked but <br /> said they would do it as soon as they could. Then the snows came. They <br /> called at the end of March, dug the well in one day on April Fools. Nice <br /> guys, did the job with no fuss. <br />

Bill knows what he is doing. He is a busy guy but worth the wait. <br />

I first contacted Bill in July of 2014 to hook up my home in Medford, MA to city sewer,a requirement to sell my home. This was no easy task due to the fact that the home is below street level. Bill immediately came up with a plan when others said they couldn't do it! Due to many delays with the engineers who were required to execute a plan, new and different demands by the city every time we turned around, and having to get an easement from my neighbor we were not able to get the job done before the ground froze through no fault of Bill's. When the ground thawed the saga continued with new demands from the city and the buyers bank and through it all Bill was always available to help and the job was finally done to the city's satisfaction! I closed on the sale of my property today! Thanks Bill!! <br />

They protected the shrubs that were in the way and worked quickly and cleanly. Everything turned out well and you can barely tell now that a trench was even dug. It seemed expensive but the difficulty of the location and the manual labor justified it. <br />

Bill and his team were hands-down the best landscapers we've ever dealt with.  They showed up when they said they would and went right to work.  They all knew exactly what they were doing, and worked together effectively as a team.  I checked out their work several times along the way and was impressed by both the quality and their speed.   <br /> Bill himself is very easy to deal with.  He listened carefully, was very clear about what he thought should be done, executed it as promised, and charged what he said he would.  He is also a very likeable guy. <br /> We will DEFINITELY go back to Bill for future landscaping needs and will recommend him to friends. <br /> <br /> UPDATE:  We have now had several big rainstorms since Bill and his team did the work.  No flooding in the basement, no pooling in the back yard.  Cavanaugh has FIXED the problem, to our great relief.

The two guys that work for Callahan Excavation showed at 8:00 AM sharp.  The found where the septic tank cover was using a metal detector.  Using a large propane torch they heated the ground to soften it.  Then they took an electric jackhammer and dug up the ground exposing the cover. <br /> These guys knew what they were doing and they were there for about an hour.  They helped me out and I am happy to leave this review. <br />
