About us

Wheaton Door & Window Company has proudly serviced Washington area homeowners since 1945. During that time, we have worked with more than 250,000 customers, installing doors, windows, roofing, siding, gutters, trim and a lot more. Our motto is “quality products at prices you can afford.” It means we won’t put the cheapest product on your house or look for installers that cut corners to save money. We want our work to look great and last since we want you happy so continue to do business with us in the future and refer your friends and family. Word-of-mouth and customer referrals are the principle means by which we’ve grown our business for 65 years and we don’t plan on changing a formula that works. No matter where you live in the Washington Metro area, chances are that someone in your neighborhood has had work done by Wheaton Door & Window. We’ve done our fair share of VIP’s too! Former Vice President Al Gore had his doors replaced by Wheaton Door & Window. William Peter Blatty, author of The Exorcist, also had his doors replaced by Wheaton, while Fox News anchor Greta Van Susteren recently put Wheaton sliding windows and doors in her home. Of course, we treat every customer like a VIP! It is why we are one of the oldest home improvement companies operating today. Call us and let us prove it!

Hired Deck Wizards because of its affiliation with Wheaton Door and Window, which has been in this area since the 1940's, A business that lasts that long must be doing things right. How mistaken I was. Deck Wizards evidently uses "subcontractors" (read as whoever is standing around outside of the local paint store at 7 am on any given day) who showed up over an hour late, operating out of the trunk of their personal vehicle. Nothing on the vehicle or on their apparal (read as not even a teeshirt with "Deck Wizards" on it). One spoke minimal English; the other spoke no English. It took them all day, using handheld equipment to strip the existing covering. I expected that someone in this business would have equipment more suited to this type of work. When I asked the "leader" (so designated because he spoke some English) about the equipment. He told me they had that equipment but it was on another job. It took them until almost dark to complete the job, but to their credit, their work was excellent. The deck surface was as clean as it could possibly be. However, that was the end of any quality workmanship. The next day, they did not show up at all, nor did I get a call from them to let me know. I recalled that the "leader" had called me the day before they first came out and I had his number in my phone. I called him and he said their vehicle was broken down on I-270 many miles away from my home in Upper Marlboro, MD and in fact many miles away from their shop location. He told me they would try to get to my home soon. An hour later he called and told me it was too late to get any work done that day and that they would come to my house the next day. They did show up and got to work right away. I sat in my sunroom and watched them as is my custom when I hire contractors. My interest is to see how people do things, hoping I might learn something new. As I observed them, I realized they were painting small areas and immediately applying the "second" coat over wet paint. I thought this was worth questioning and the response was "it's OK, it's special paint." They obviously did not want to come back the next day and just barely finished their work before dark. The deck looked great at that point. As spring and summer passed cracks and peeling had already begun, certainly not attributable to heavy use. Most of the time when it is used it is only my wife and I. I contacted Deck Wizards and they said they would send an inspector out, The person they sent concluded that "this was a one coat job" and told me they would take care of it, but would not be able to do so until the following spring, which was fine with me. They never contacted me in the spring, which astounded me as I would have made this my highest priority as a business owner and been proactive about making this right in every possible way. I decided to wait and see if they would eventually contact me. Meanwhile, their work continued to deteriorate rapidly. Even the benches started cracking and peeling. I contacted them to let them know that the only thing acceptable would be a complete re-do of the entire job. The only response was to tell me they wanted to send another inspector out. Unfortunately, due to health issues and being out of town, I missed two phone calls from someone who left messages to call him to schedule an appointment. The messages were taken by my wife and left on my desk, which I discovered when I eventually got back into my usual routine. I returned this person's calls twice and got no answer. I left messages for him and have heard nothing. This situation has been going on for some time now, (Paid in advance on 9-21-15; work done spring of 2016; filed complaint in fall of 2016; repair work to be done spring of 2017; never contacted by contractor in spring; chose to wait and see if they would contact me, with no resolution and NO proactive outreach by the contractor to resolve this matter.) I told them I wanted it to be completely redone. They are only willing to "fix" the problem. And that takes it right back to a complete redo. There is now way to fix a mess like this. Given their total lack of concern I told them I wanted a refund, which they refused to do. I have also placed a review on Yelp and intend to place another with Washington Consumer's Checkbook in the next few days. I've recently discovered many very, very negative reviews about this company. This is not an isolated incident. USE THIS CONTRACTOR AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Horrible experience with them both times. I would NOT recommend them. They are non-responsive to requests to fix the problems.

At the start, all went well. The door arrived and was installed on time. Shortly thereafter, we started having issues. The bottom insulation started wearing and the door started drifting backwards whenever it was opened. (in other words, when you opened the door, and then took your hand off of it, instead of remaining stationary, it drifted backwards and hit the wall. We called Wheaton service and they sent people out to fix it. They replaced the insulation and adjusted the door. The cycle continued. After two or three service cycles, the tech told us the insulation will always wear, that is the way it is, and the drifting is because ?we use it too much?. He said most people don?t come into their home via the front door?. Really! So I called one more time. This time the tech said the door drifted because the frame was out of plumb.. and that was not their problem since they did not install the frame. I mentioned that the original door, in the same frame, did not drift. But, they abandoned my issue! So, after a while, we gave up and accepted we got taken, and learned to live with our lousy door. But then on Sep 6 2016, a Wheaton Door salesperson called to see if we had more work that they could do ? they were having a ?Sale?. I politely told them that since they never correctly finished the last job, I would have no more work for them. The sales person was dismayed and put me on hold. Someone else then got on the phone. I relayed the situation and was told they would send a ?master? tech out to fix the door. They would call me back with the date and time. Sure enough, within 2 hours, they called back to set up the appointment. All looked good! Then, at the very end of the conversation, the man said, ?BTW, there will be a $150 service charge?. I said no way as this was still an installation issue but got nowhere. So, the door still drifts, the insulation is still worn, and we are done with Wheaton Door and Window Company, and sincerely warn anyone who thinks of doing business with them to beware!

They installed the windows 2.5 years ago. Now the windows have mold growing and it is still under warranty. I have been communicating with them for months and I have sent pictures and they are blaming the manufacturer. I am now caught in the middle between the manufacturer and the installer. I understand the manufacturer gave them windows that are defective but I am the victim and I already paid for the windows. I need my windows to be replaced again. Having mold growing in the windows is extremely unhealthy and it needs to be fixed immediately.

A crew of workmen arrived early in the morning, the foreman sat down with me to explain the details, and then they worked steadily through the day, finishing the project in the late afternoon. They cleaned up all scraps and left behind a gorgeous roof before the next snow event arrived.
Despite having lots of rain last fall and a huge snow storm last month, the roof has remained leak-free and beautiful. I could not be happier.
