Ron Scott, owner of White Dog Painting, came out in late September to see what was needed and prepare an estimate to repair siding, wood rot, and paint my home. While walking around the house, he has some smart ideas on how to prepare the fascia and trim to prevent further wood rot. He provided an estimate. It was complete and White Dog was hired to make repairs and paint the home. White Dog showed up in early October to begin. The crew arrived promptly at 9AM and worked until dark for several days. White Dog repaired and replaced trim, chalked and prepared the surfaces for painting. The crew spray painted and it looked great. There were only two issues that came up during the painting. 1. They used two different brands/colors of siding, and the darker siding appeared to have already been painted another color. Ron Scott assured me both were new siding, but still waiting on receipts showing he made 2 separate purchases of new siding rather than using scraps from another job. 2. The really good ideas Ron had on making adjustments to the trim, fascia were never conveyed to the crew and I had to press the crew myself to get those adjustments made on, literally, the last day of their work. As good as the finished paint job and repairs looked; the unskilled approach to the other details soured the experience. The trim was screwed into the window itself rather than the frame. Of the 11 windows painted, 8 were ‘painted shut’ making them inoperable. The storm windows and door were ‘slapped’ back on, leaving large air gaps between the storm doors/windows and frames. Of the 4 outdoor lights the removed (before painting) then reattached; only two worked. The other two had not been wired correctly. Worst, the home has a steel roof and Ron had assured me his crew knew how to operate on a steel roof. They did not. They left 4 trails of dents and damage across the roof as they painted the dormer. Ron assured me that White Dog was committed to making things right. Two months went by and White Dog never came out to inspect the damage or send their insurance agent. Once I got an estimate for the repairs, I told him the amount and the roofing company to make the check out to. No check. When I insisted he turn it over to his insurance, because he advertises on his website and Angie’s List that he is insured, no response. I complained to the BBB and received an email from Ron that he had given all my information to his insurer and they would contact me. After almost 6 months, still no phone call or resolution from White Dog Painting or contact from an insurance company. I had to have the roof repaired on my own.

Ron Scott, the owner, came out in mid-September and viewed the home. He made several good suggestions about making carpentry repairs that would prevent damage and wood rot in future. Ron also pointed out the siding on the front showed water damage from age and suggested replacing siding on the garage. He promised an estimate within and day on the painting and siding and the garage with Hardy board, and complete the estimate of the carpentry, wood/trim replacement after his crew inspected. An estimate arrived by email late that evening. It was reasonable and including the specific repairs and adjustments he had recommended. He said it might be 6 weeks before he could get a crew out. Fortunately, White Dog called about a week later and said they could send a crew out earlier, if it was convenient. A four person crew showed up in early October and began work removing the damaged siding, rotted wood and preparing the rest of the house for painting. Tony and his three crew members showed up promptly at 9AM every weekday and left around 6PM. Ron came out on the 2nd day and went over the carpentry and repair estimate. He also suggested that replacement of the lap siding on the garage, in time, might not match up well with the rest of the front of the home and putting Hardy board siding across the whole of the front might be an option and gave me an additional quote for the whole front. I agreed to the carpentry and replacing the entire front with Hardy board lap siding. Work continued 6 workdays to completion. It was necessary for me to communicate the specifics of the adjustments and repairs to the gutters and other carpentry items mentioned in the contract but not communicated clearly to the crew. I had noticed that a different brand of Hardy board had been used to finish up the small pieces at the end of the job. It appeared they were damaged to some extent, as if used before. I mentioned this to the crew prior to priming the house and again to Noah Scott, at the final walk inspection. They did not admit not all the siding was new, nor did they deny it either. Ron was particularly sensitive when I first mentioned this in the review and insisted all the siding was new, even though different manufacturers. I suggested producing the invoices showing 2 different purchases of Hardy board. Still waiting to see the invoices. The preparation, caulking, and prime/final coats were expertly done. The house looked brand new. I paid the extra $350 to have them use Sherwin Williams' Duration paint. The last paint job was done with Duration and it held up exceptionally well. As I went back to wash the windows, spruce up the outside, I found that some of the wood trim replaced had the screws driven into the widow tracks, instead of the widow frame. Also, storm widows and doors had not been reinstalled with more air gap than I would have preferred. Two outside lights did not work and it was necessary to reinstall them. I had made White Dog aware of all of these, the whole crew came out as quickly as weather would permit and reattached some of the trim properly and caulked and repainted. I repaired the other items myself. Additionally, White Dog offered to paint an interior room or other handyman work to compensate for the inconvenience.

White Dog Painting did painting and restoration work on our Hyde Park home, and my husband and I couldn't be happier. Ron and Noah were great to work with and their crew of professionals are thorough, friendly, and skilled in the restoration and repair work they did on our house. We highly recommend them, especially if you have an old gem that needs a little love!

They did a great job and gave me a good price. The hard part is the prep work - washing, scraping and caulking - and they took the time to make sure everything was done right. The house looks great and we have received compliments from the neighbors.

This company is simply amazing. Our duplex was a mess...rotting wood, crumbling stonework, old lead paint, mold under useless gutters. The owners and crew were 100% professional, kind, timely. They helped with color choices, and restored the house to a degree I did not even expect. James was our crew chief and he was one of the most capable human beings I have ever watched work. I never questioned their integrity. The price was beyond reasonable. I would recommend White Dog Painting to anyone in Kansas City who has a house with lots of challenges.

The work performed was excellent. From the bidding process all the way through the project completion, White Dog exhibited nothing but professionalism along the way. While the price was a bit more than I expected, I have no complaints about the work. They did very thorough power washing, scraping, caulking, priming and carpentry repair. James is an excellent carpenter and went the extra mile to make sure we were happy with the work. The job took about 6 days and every day the job site was cleaned up.

We were very satisfied with the work. Ours is a story and a half home, so some of the surfaces were quite high and difficult to reach. We also had a significant amount of wood rot needing carpentry repair. About 2/3 of our cost was attributable to the painting and 1/3 for carpentry. We had asked four contractors for estimates. One declined to bid, saying the job was too big for them. Of the other three estimates, White Dog and one other were nearly exactly equal and the third estimate was 50% higher. Our estimate was done by Ron Scott and the job was managed by Noah Scott. Most of the work, both painting and carpentry, was done by two brothers, James and Moise. Occasionally they had another man or two for assistance. Noah was helpful in our decisions about the paint colors and quality. All the work was professionally done with much time and care spent in replacing wood rot with 1x6 cedar trim along the sides and back of the house and over the rooflines. Approximately 50 batten boards were replaced. All was carefully sealed and primed before the paint was applied. The paint job included stucco surfaces in the front of the house, which were painted a color different from the wood siding. The job took about 6 days in total. Each night the crew picked up tools, equipment and supplies and either took it with them or left it neatly stored on the property. No mess was left around at any time.

Excellent! Great customer service. Punctual, professional. The crew took meticulous care of every detail. Covered nails with caulk. Not a drop of paint left anywhere. Perfect job. Even put weatherstripping on my door. Hung the shutters. I highly recommend this company. Thanks.

I hired them to do my deck and they did a great job. I tried to hire them for two other jobs but they gave me the run around about the estimate. They said they would send somebody out and never did, multiple times. I never could schedule with them, so I let go. I won't call them again.

Easy communication with White Dog, quick response time for obtaining the estimate and in all later communications. The explanations were informative and helpful, and the advice we received proved sound. Prep work included carpentry to remove storm windows, replace some damaged wood/trim, pressure washing, scraping, caulking, priming, and painting (one fill color/tan, one trim color/cream, one color for entry doors/teal), and reinstall storms. The house originally was painted with lead-based paint, so some lead precautions were necessary. The daily clean-ups were carefully done, as was the final cleanup and disposal. Two storms were broken, and the glass was replaced without us needing to ask. The painting team were friendly and courteous, and respectful of our home. I absolutely would hire White Dog again, and unreservedly recommend their services.

The team arrived as scheduled and did a fantastic job. They covered all the flooring with plastic and tarps - no paint went where it wasn't supposed to go. They were very polite and professional. We had many different painting areas and they always asked to make sure the right color went in the right place.

They did an great job on my house, I was really happy.

Very thorough and very professional and cleaned up and I came home one day from work and I thought oh my gosh I got mix signal from the paint because they had so thoroughly primed my house that it looks like the coat of paint it was just really great.

The gutters had to be coordinated with the painting and they were able to do that. We were happy with the paint job, but the crew was messy and left trash. And the gutter people were subs who weren't as reliable and we had a hard rain storm where we were left with no gutters and it leaked into our basement. He did try to make everything right and even did some additional work for us. The end product came out okay and we were satisfied with the final results, but it was a hassle.

By far the example of professionals. Came out and reviews the home and gave me a great quote. The team that came out made sure to go over the home and replaced and wood that was rotting and bad. They did a through job painting and I have compared it to new homes and I think that the job on our home was better then the new houses. Gutters look crisp and match our colors. Afterwards we could barely recognize our home when it was done. Putting them down for future work!

The staff at White Dog was amazing to work with. My house needed a complete exterior rehab. I could not be happier with the result and the way it was done. The crew never spilled a drop of paint on the sidewalk. They prepped everything. The job was done on time and looks perfect.

Ron sent someone out to look at these issues within a week or two of my posting (it's their busy season, so I thought that was pretty good). They looked at everything and said the the cracked caulk was only happening where the caulk met two different materials (wood and stucco). They agreed to fix everything that I pointed out under the warranty for free. I was very happy with the responsiveness and service! Thanks Ron!

Ron`s estimate came in at the middle of the three bids we received. We picked Ron because of his attention to detail and the things he mentioned that he would do as part of the work that the other contractors were not going to do. Also, I just liked Ron when I met him. His crew was on time every day. They were hard workers and overall just good guys to have working for you. They do great work and the fact that I am a construction inspector with a certain State agency I don`t throw that around lightly. I would highly recommend White Dog for your painting needs and I would personally use them again. No complaints here.

"Thank you for the review! We loved working on your beautiful home and helping you find the right colors to make it perfect. It's always nice to get a review about the workers, specifically. Our guys have been with us for a long time and we are very proud of the level of service they provide. We hope to be able to do some more work for you in the future! White Dog Painting"

All work was done professionally and they arrived when they said they would. The estimate was clear about what would be done and what extra charges might be applied if we wanted additional services.

A different size of gutters (than we had agreed on) were put on the house but when contacted about it they readily admitted the error and gave us a choice of replacing the gutters at no additional cost to us or getting a large discount. We appreciated the professionalism used about this error.

As with many smallish companies there were a few times when calls were not responded to readily but with a second contact they always did respond. While work was in progress all calls were answered in a timely way.

All communication was clear, pleasant, and professional. The work crews were very hard working and nice people and we are quite pleased with the quality of the work done. Ron and Noah (the owners) were both great to work with. The work was completed quickly and there were no interruptions once work began (with the exception of weather issues). I had a neighbor stop by to ask for the company contact info for when they have their house painted.

I highly recommend this company.
