Beyond my expectations! The result is a spacious outdoor living area, with gorgeous stonework and surrounding gardens. The result exceeded my expectations. I know the work has added value to my home and I will continue to use Yards Apart in the future. Highly recommend.

.This is the second time that I have hired Troy to do work for me. The first time, about two years ago, he completed a xeriscape landscape in the front and back yard and the results were beautiful. It cost about $10,000.
The second time he cleaned up the rocks in the xeriscape and and trimmed the bushes and trees. He changed some of the plants and mulched the front and back yards. The rocks along the curve in the front yard were continuously falling into the street, so Troy added a metal edger trim all along the curve to prevent this problem with the rocks.
I enjoy working with Troy. He is very creative and is definitely a hard worker. He worked up a plan and started promptly on the agreed time frame. I believe the cost for his services are very reasonable and I would highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in low maintenance (low water requirement) landscaping.
The work was done to perfection and I am completely satisfied. He did almost all the work himself and seldom even took breaks.
I would definitely recommend him to anyone! I wish I could post before and after pictures of my front yard.
They do beautiful work. I'm very impressed with them. Professional, good, knowledgeable, punctual, and my curb appeal is really really impressive. They even hand picked every single weed out of my yard.

He was prompt, courteous and gave us reasonable suggestions. I liked the way that he did not cost too much and yet he trimmed trees, moved tons of dirt and got it all done quickly.
Very nice person to work with and was relatively punctual and kept in communication with us when necessary. However, he didn't listen well to what we wanted in terms of the smaller plantings. My wife knows plants much better than this guy but he showed up with a bunch of plants even though we said we would do that part ourselves. He had his helper plant them although we had to replant some of them because they weren't done at the correct height or some were not in the correct light environment. We have replaced a couple of the plants as they weren't deer-proof as advertised. We have no experience with deer but are learning fast. The low limestone wall he installed is beautiful and they did a good job there as well as the walkway and small patio. I would say he's very good at design and the hardscape but doesn't know his plants well which is a drawback for a landscaper. The Monterey Oak was done well, I do have to admit. That was a real job to plant. If you need a lot of planting done, you'd better know what you want ahead of time. For the hardscape and trees, no complaints.
Went very well. Troy is creative and great to work with. Love the result. Troy has a good eye for design and created a beautiful front yard for our home. It is a wonderful transformation! Troy also helped us with tree trimming and a yard drainage issue. He designed and built a lovely arbor as a focal point. We look forward to watching our vines grow and become part of the structure. Also, Sue, the office manager, was great to work with. Very responsive and helpful.

We were on a really tight budget, Troy kept that in consideration, as he targeted the biggest problem areas, prioritizing how the money should be spent. We did end up spending more than the original amount, but are very pleased with our bang for the buck. The Bermuda grass that was installed is still a bit dry looking, but I'm watering every evening, and hopefully, it will catch on and get green. It's only been a few days. Working with Troy and Sue is a pleasure. I checked with, and got bids from, several companies, and definitely chose the right one for my needs. I'm a satisfied customer!
My experience with them was very positive at the time of the work. Pleasant people.

However, follow-through was an issue. For example, I had 2 main goals: a path from the curb to the front door. No problem. The other one was a flat, stone-free walk from the front door to the car, such that I could go barefoot and at night without worrying about walking on stones. This did not happen. The first was a single row of flagstones, less wide than the one we currently had, and more stones, Also, the stones weren't stable nor level the driveway, so it was a risky when approaching the car carrying anything. So that was a step back. When I reminded them of our need and the plan, another row of stones were added to the walkway, and some stones stabilizing those next to the driveway were put under the existing stones... which still weren't flat. After multiple conversations, I gave up. It has since been repaired closer to what we had, but not an improvement.

Plants we wanted to keep were cut and removed, only to be replaced by new plants when we re-affirmed that we still wanted them. Other plants were inappropriate for our total shade environment.

The owner got very sick at the start of the job. We were informed that he wouldn't be working. However, when they disappeared for an annual vacation we were not notified that they wouldn't be working in our yard for the rest of the week.

Additionally the bill was substantially higher than the proposal.

"I really enjoyed working for (removed member names) . . . and appreciated the initial A rating they gave our company and the dozen of complements we got. Obviously the downgrade to a C is disappointing and comes as a surprise. I would be happy to have had an opportunity to follow up. I appreciated how gracious and patient they were when I came down with an extended health issue during the project that delayed its completion. I would have been happy to completely redo the area of frustration had I known the discontent after modifying it on our return."

They are communicative and work really hard. They are really good about letting you know if they are not going to be there for some reason. I was not happy with the way that they finished off the patio, but it may just be that I didn't communicate well enough with them to find out how exactly that was going to be done.

He uses day laborers who speak very little English and may or may not have any experience in landscaping. If you are uncomfortable having this type of crew dropped into your yard for hours at a time with little supervision or accommodations (like water), then this may not be the company for you. Do not expect YA to give you any information on plants that isn't on a tag at any nursery. It took YA WEEKS to deliver a proper landscaping plan and cost analysis. The work wasn't complicated, the price seemed fair, and we wanted the work done ASAP (after waiting weeks for the proposal), so we went ahead and used them. I doubt we'd do it again. If you know exactly what you want and where and just need a fair price for the manual labor to get it done - YA is for you - just don't expect more than that, and make sure you have gatorades handy.
"We enjoyed working with (Member names removed) when they came to us with a serious need & desire for creating privacy in their back yard surrounding their pool. Regrettably, it took us longer than usual to set up our free initial consultation, as they contacted us in the midst of our busiest time of year. Once I met w/ them to assess their needs, I began working on several different Design Plans (@ no charge) to deliver solutions for immediate privacy surrounding their back pool area, incl. proposing several different Arbor options w/ Climbing Vines, in addition to researching numerous fast-growing, drought tolerant Trees for installation to create a Privacy Hedge. During the research & design stage (which did take an extra week or so), I visited several different nurseries to look at their inventory for Texas Trees & located a new grower. This grower was significantly farther away (almost an hour & a half), but they offered the highest quality, largest, healthiest Trees I could find for the (Member name removed). Because I drove to the Farm myself, hand-picked the Trees & Plants and then hand-delivered them, there were several blocks of time that I was away from the work site for longer than I normally would be. Our Foreman & crew are hard working, honest & trustworthy members of our team that we love working with. We weren't aware that (Member names removed)were not satisfied with our service until now, 2 years later & in fact, thought they were very satisfied, especially when they gave us an added gift of one of their old Mowers at the close of the project. Still, we appreciate their feedback and are glad that we were able to resolve their Landscaping issues, even though it wasn't in our usual speedy manner that has consistently earned us an A+ Rating from the BBB and straight A's from Angie's List since 2010. We only wish that they had provided their feedback sooner."

We loved working with Troy and his crew. They were great to work with. Troy constantly asked for our input and would run everything by us first. We absolutely love our backyard now. We highly recommend Yards Apart.
Troy was able to come out soon after I called. He was very professional and I felt he was more knowledgeable than the other landscapers I had contacted. He also seemed more interested in creating a nice backyard that we could use. He had a lot of ideas to help us stay in our budget. I was also impressed with how quickly they emailed me a quote. The bid was broken down so that we could even pick and choose services that were most important to us.

During the removal process they found the asian jasmine had been covering up a lot of rocks and boulders. This was unexpected and made the work more difficult than we had originally thought. Troy was really good about keeping us within our budget and "working with the rocks."

They started and finished when we expected. We are very pleased with our new lawn and we will call them again for other projects!
The very first thing that impressed me besides Troy's friendliness was his creativity and vision. He made suggestions that the designer and I had not considered. Now that they are in place, they look like they have always been there. Troy is very experienced with tree trimming and did a great job. I was quite anxious about having the bushes trimmed, and he followed my exact instructions. My designer had suggested flat rocks for the sitting area under the tree but Troy said that the rocks get moldy sitting in the shade of the tree after it rains. That saved me a a lot of money and headaches. We agreed on crushed granite for the walkway and the sitting area. Troy describes himself as a control freak when it comes to his remodeling jobs - it was a remark that prompted me to hire him. If his crew were working without him, he would be getting more plants or materials and would soon be back on the site. He inspected the crew's work - and if it didn't pass, which I witnessed once, Troy would correct them immediately. Troy is experienced in his field - he made wise, educated recommendations on plants and trees... he delivered and installed high quality plants; he obviously knows where and how to choose the best plants and trees. Because the installation was late in the year, he was careful to choose the size of plant that would (and did) withstand the winter weather. Both the wisteria and the redbud tree transplants are healthy and survived the bitter winter weather we just experienced. As the backyard remodel developed, Troy would propose wonderful, creative ideas that were not included in the initial plans. For instance, he suggested solar lights to accent the new beds at night. Yes, I spent more than the initial bid, and it was my own fault! And the solar lights look fantastic - as do the other little bits and pieces he added to the initial design. Troy gave me specific instructions on how to take care of all my new plants, the new tree, and the new sod. He and his crew worked very late the last evening to finish everything. They cleaned up every evening when they left. They carried away all the trimmings and trash. They delivered things to the back yard so my driveway wouldn't be cluttered. They were thoughtful and careful. Now when I take someone into my back yard, there is always a big "ooooh!": the makeover is a dramatic, beautiful change from a big green lot. Since last fall, I have asked Yards Apart to clean up leaves, hand pull weeds, treat the lawn, etc. My experience with Yards Apart continues to be very good and I will continue to employ them.
