"In response to review by Andrew W.: We did contract with him to build a pool; we discussed leaving the dirt from the pool onsite as well as drainage. I told him we would make it drain correctly and leave it ready for the landscaper. There was no sign of any rock prior to our initial attempt to excavate. On the first day of excavation, we uncovered a rock backyard with 6 inches of clean fill dirt and sod on top of it. It only took a couple of hours to uncover this, and it was evident that any machine we would typically use would not be to his advantage and would probably not be able to get the job done. We immediately notified Andrew of the situation and gave him his options: 1- Cancel your contract with us or 2- Go with a large track hoe that could probably handle the rock. We could not guarantee it would do the job, due to the fact that until the hole is complete, nothing is an absolute. He elected to go forward so we arranged for the machine to be delivered. The machine was in route and we received a call from Homeadvisor that the customer wanted to cancel the contract. We had to call the machine off. Andrew then claimed that he never said that, but it was a recorded conversation with Homeadvisor, which proved otherwise. He apologized at that time, and asked that we please do the job. We rescheduled to get back on track, and Andrew began demanding a completion date within a very short time period. We could not commit and told him so, due to the many variables involved. He threatened to cancel the contract again, at which point we agreed that it would apparently be best for both parties involved. Regarding the phone lines, a utility locate was done and is always done prior to any type of excavation. He could have had a temporary line run and it would have been fixed within 48 hours. We take his words of 'non-ethical' extremely insulting. We only tried to help him out to save as much money as possible for him, as we do with any customer when a major problem comes up, such as solid rock throughout the pool area. We hope his pool turned out great and he is enjoying it. It is and was apparent to our company that his unexpected delays and cost were being used to make us the bad guy when it was the opposite. We were waiting on his decisions to proceed. His entire review was based on the very first construction phase, excavation, which is always subject to potential problems."
