About us

Dietz/Hartlage Landscape Architecture, a division of AHBL, Inc., works on a broad range of projects with a wide array of clients. Our residential garden designs range in scale from 20' x 20' to 200 acres, from formal to informal, from urban to environmental restoration. Our experience allows us to creatively approach a variety of projects that reflect our clients tastes and needs. We believe in a collaborative process in which we both listen to and honor our clients. This process often leads strong relationships between the client and Richard -- some relationships have spanned 15 years. In this collaborative process, we work with our clients to design their garden, choose an appropriate landscape construction firm, oversee construction and assist with the projects long term oversight. To help make our clients garden a fulfilling and complete outdoor living experience, our services extend to helping the client select and purchase outdoor furnishings, containers, artwork and other accents. We are the best value to our clients when the construction budget is $50,000 or more. Dietz/Hartlage Landscape Architecture works with private and public clients in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, North Carolina, Illinois, California and Washington. Our work has been featured in "The New York Times", "Horticulture", "Traditional Home", "Pacific Horticulture", "Garden Design", "The Seattle Times: Pacific Northwest Magazine", and "Fine Gardening". Our work as also been featured internationally in many other books and publications. In addition to residential landscape architecture, our work includes: commercial, cultural landscape interpretation, parks, botanical gardens, zoos and arboreta.
