Originally established in 1920 as Orlando Diefenderfer Electrical Contractors, Inc., in Allentown, Pennsylvania, our company has flourished and grown to be the leader in its field. Today, Diefenderfer ranks among the largest IBEW electrical and telecommunications contractors in the Northeast corridor. In 1984, keeping up with rapid technology advancements in the IT world, Diefenderfer expanded its discipline to incorporate structured cabling for voice and data networks and telephone systems. In 1997 Diefenderfer broadened their market base and opened a facility in the Philadelphia area, where today we have approximately one hundred technicians. Diefenderfer reached a new plateau in 1998 when we established Diefenderfer Mechanical Services Division. Diefenderfer's continued growth and success was expanded in the summer of 2000 when it was announced that Xcelecom, Inc. had purchased the eighty-year-old icon of Eastern Pennsylvania. Xcelecom, Inc. is the fastest growing provider of specialty electrical and voice-data-video integrated solutions in the Eastern United States. This acquisition has allowed Diefenderfer to expand its horizons and pursue larger projects. Xcelecom, Inc. is headquartered in Hamden, Connecticut and is a wholly-owned business of UIL Holdings. During the year 2000, Xcelecom's acquisition program and internal growth success resulted in annualized reviews exceeding 220 million dollars.
