Tom, the technician, eliminated all of the obvious causes, and then kept trying different trouble shooting approaches. His persistence got to the root of the problem, which was caused by an unorthodox modification inside the light switch by the prior owner. After that was resolved, a secondary issue added to the lighting problem. Tom wouldn't give up until he had them all working properly.
