"I hired Oliver as he assured me he and his crew could do the jobs I had requested. He used my refinished table as a cutting surface for the brick and scratched my table. His brick cuts were awful. He used brick on the walkway that I had purchased and set aside for the pizza oven. Although he had the brick example, he purchased more brick in completely wrong colors. I went and bought the correct brick on my own, picked it up, and he did not reimburse me. He didn't use enough polymeric sand for the walkway, and I supplied most of it, when he should have, as part of the supplies quote. The walkway is not straight and has tripping hazards as surfaces were left uneven. He reused the existing edging when I understood he would be replacing it. He left large gaps between the edging and the brick in many areas. He was unable to mason the brick oven, and instead slopped it with a succo-like? coating that has cracked all over. He broke our pathway lights and didn't let us know they were no longer working. He did not weld the gate. The timeline was 6 days to complete, and after 30 days, the work was still not complete. The work was so unsatisfactory and Oliver quit before completing the work stating it was "100 percent on him and unfortunately left us with some expectations unmet, and he was sorry." I would attach photos for your reference, if I could. I'm hesitant to use an Angi's recommendation again."

"I'm not giving Marble & Tile Master an F because Ismael Castro's crew did a good job of installing granite counter tops in bathrooms and some bathroom floor tiles. However, for the master shower install, although the wall and shower floor tiles looked nice when installed, 3 years later there were cracks crossing 3 of the stone floor tiles. I consulted with another tile setter I found later who does excellent work who said that the shower pan was improperly installed and eventually the shower floor tiles would loosen, requiring a complete tear out and re-installation of the shower walls, pan and floor tiles. I know that this rework will cost at least $10,000 dollars. Mr. Castro gives no guarantees for his work. Another issue that I had was with the price of the shower remodel, with Mr. Castro charging several hundred dollars more for required smoothing of the cut edges of the porcelain tile on the shower walls, which was not included or mentioned in his estimate. In addition there were many days when I didn't know when his crew would show up to do the work or they would show up a half hour to an hour later than I was told. Communication was lacking. Overall, a very unsatisfactory experience."

"I would caution anyone considering Renovate Max and Ali (contractor/owner). There are several issues you will run into if you choose this contractor, but knowing them up front may help you decide or perhaps make changes to the standard contract to protect yourself. They include: 1. Estimating of how long a job will take. (10 weeks) vs reality (22 weeks). Ali under supported the project by peeling off workers to other jobs (even ones booked after my own). His own staff is quite small and over extended. 2.Costly under estimation of electrical (including basic code requirements around number of outlets needed in a kitchen) est: $4k, actual $14k. This one made me suspect intent - did the contractor do this to keep the original estimate low? I later noticed a line in his contract about how electrical estimates might change. When I did my pre-homework and checked references, this is something that came up with each previous customer, and I should have paid more attention. Get the electrician to visit and do the estimate up front, not Ali (owner/contractor). By the way, keep a close eye on the work of the electrical team. Poor communication between Ali and that team caused several headaches throughout the project. 3. Ali has a strong tendency to first blame the homeowner for problems during construction (including communication issues within his own team and the subcontractors he hires). He can be quite emotional rather than businesslike and send offensive emails and text. This volatility makes for a stressful environment for the homeowner and awkwardness for the embarrassed workers. On the plus side, I would like to complement Ali for his choice of some excellent workers, especially Martin, his 'Jack of all trades'. The floor subcontractor was fast and excellent. This was our largest change order, to refloor half the house, and it only took 3 days! The window subcontractor was fast and good. I am happy with most (not all) results from this large remodel project. I wish I had known some of these things up front, that's why I'm sharing with other homeowners"
