American Restoration and Construction is committed to providing our clients with professional project management with integrity, workmanship, and professionalism. Please give us call at 503-581-5290 and we will be happy to help you!
"It went great. I was extremely happy with the work on the roof and the kitchen, which was an insurance claim, so I asked them to fix a window that had a cracked casing that caused the trim inside the house to warp. The window repair was not associated with the insurance claim but American did such a great job with the kitchen and roof that I asked them to fix the window. The price, quality of workmanship and repairs were excellent. I'd highly recommend American Restoration for any work you need to have done - especially hire them if you have an insurance claim because that is where American excels. Working with an insurance company and trying to figure out how the policy coverages work / don't work is exhausting. American Restoration are experts in dealing with the insurance companies. I've listed the cost of service at $5000 but that includes $3500 paid out by my insurance company. My out of pocket was $1500 including my deductible."

"Terrible job. We were constantly telling the Supervisor, Matt McGinnis that they were not doing the job correctly or using the proper materials and he agreed to correct it but never did. Everything they did was poor quality and workmanship. The cabinets were not only NOT real wood or custom fit, as we had ordered, they were prefabricated laminated press-board that we complained about from day one. They installed them anyway and we lost half our cupboard space. They drilled dozens of extra holes in the new cabinets instead of finding the studs, the screws stick out of the cabinets because they are too long and their fix to this was to cover them with puddy. The counter tops were too tall at 38 inches and the back-splashes were several inches taller then before. ServPro was told BEFORE they installed them that they would interfere with the outlets and they needed to make shorter back-splash or move the outlets up the wall. Instead, ServPro ignored what we said and marked the outlet covers to cut them off rather then do the job correctly. The new door frames did not fit properly and were not even lined up correctly and looked terrible. Everything they did wrong they tried to cover with puddy. They were also installed visibly crooked on the walls and were not level! The finish work was a joke and not preformed by a professional finisher. The flooring was not professionally installed, was pulling apart and the gaps along the walls was so wide the molding would not cover them. They replaced all our door frames and not one of them fit so they filled in the gaps with puddy. They broke the marble flooring and only replaced the one whole piece and filled the broken corner piece with caulk. The toilet leaked. The one thing they changed was the oversized cabinet in the bathroom that was NOT to code, so they did not even follow building codes! The new flooring was installed going the wrong direction and was pulling apart everywhere. The gaps along the walls were so wide they could not be covered with the molding so they stuffed them full of puddy. After they quit and we noticed the moisture under the flooring we started to remove the flooring and found nails, screws and dirt under the brand new flooring that they had never even swept before laying the new flooring! They had also claimed they had dried up all the water from their flood but that was also a lie and there was mold under the new flooring and likely still in the walls, we are still tearing things out. They replaced 18 and 25 inch shelves with 12 inch shelves, which was not acceptable! They removed brand new, white outlet covers one white walls and replaced them with 3 different beige colored ones, for no reason! They shut the water off to the hot water heater but not the power and burnt it up. Literally EVERYTHING they did had to be torn out and redone! We put pictures up on FB so people could see that this is not an exaggeration it is absolutely what a terrible job they did. They flooded the apartment a second time and refused to remove the new flooring which was obviously damaged and still had moisture under it. The license holder needs to be more careful with who he allows to preform work under his name and ccb# because his son Mathew (Matt) McGinnis did a horrific job. Matt McGinnis walked off the job, just quit without notifying us at all right after we brought the insurance company in to see the terrible job they were doing and the insurance company agreed that we were not going to pay for such cheap, terrible work that was obviously done by an amateur. ServPro offered to give us ALL our money back but NOT to pay for all the damages they caused, including the tools that were ruined and rusty that we found weeks after they drilled a hole in a pipe and flooded the unit a second time, which in turn flooded the shop below. They had left buckets and toolboxes of standing water with tools and security cameras etc and ruined them all! They had never bothered to clean up the water in the shop below at all, let alone the cost to remove their flooring and cabinets etc. We are working with the CCB and plan to file against them in court after we file with their insurance company, which they refused to file or provide us with the information to file a claim against their flood damage. We paid them nearly $8k up front so they could order the custom made cabinets, but never did. That is all they wanted to give us back. They do not want to pay for any damages, which will cost us twice that just to get the unit back to where it was before ServPro came on the job, let alone the months of extra electricity because they refused to shut the lights off and ran the heater at 90 degrees for weeks approx $2000 just during the time they worked, the increased water bill and lost rent of $6400 (so far) just from when they were hired. ServPro Benton County and Linn County is also doing business as McGinnis Restoration and Construction. We started a FB page packed full of photos called: Review of ServPro aka McGinnis Restoration & Construction to show that every word stated in this review is true and more. There is just so much MORE they did just a horrific job that you can see photos of and read about there to get the whole picture because we are limited to 10 photos here."

It's impossible to prevent every instance of water damage, especially from extreme weather or river flooding. However, you can take steps to minimize the risk:
Inspect appliances and plumbing fixtures monthly for leaks and related issues. Ensure hoses are free from drips, and check the sealing around tubs and showers, caulking if necessary.
Hire a pro to inspect your home's plumbing, roof, foundation, and more each year.
Improve drainage around your home: Extend downspouts away from the foundation, enhance yard grading, and consider installing a sump pump to reduce flooding risks.
Keep gutters and downspouts clear of debris and stay on top of cleaning tasks.
Install leak detectors and automatic shutoff valves: These devices can alert you to leaks and prevent extensive damage.
Winterize your pipes to protect them from freezing temperatures, which can lead to bursting.
Homeowners insurance generally covers water damage from sudden and accidental events, like burst pipes or unexpected leaks. It typically doesn't cover damage due to neglect or poor maintenance. A home warranty covers breakages from normal wear and tear on appliances and home systems but doesn't provide structural coverage like homeowners insurance. It's essential to review your specific policy details and contact your insurance company to understand your coverage. Thoroughly documenting the damage with photos and videos can simplify the claims process and improve your chances of a favorable outcome.
A water-damaged home can take around five days to dry, though this depends on the damage. As for dedicated cleanups and repairs, it goes in phases, with water extraction taking at least three days and full restoration taking weeks or even months. Replacing drywall, plumbing fixtures, and electrical components can take a few days as well.
After water damage, you may need to replace porous items that have absorbed water and can't be thoroughly dried or sanitized. Materials like carpets, upholstered furniture, wall insulation, drywall, and other absorbent items often require replacement. Water can cause these materials to deteriorate and become breeding grounds for mold, posing health risks. It's important to assess all affected items and consult with a professional to determine what needs to be replaced to restore your home safely.
Detecting mold behind walls can be challenging, but certain signs may indicate its presence. If you notice discoloration, water stains, or peeling paint on your walls, mold could be growing underneath. A persistent musty odor is another strong indicator of hidden mold. Additionally, experiencing unexplained health issues like frequent sneezing, coughing, or eye irritation in specific rooms may signal mold growth. In such cases, it's advisable to hire a professional mold inspector to assess and address the problem promptly.
