"Rich and his crew were fantastic. They went above and beyond in many areas, and were always terrific with communication about all of the aspects of the project. They fully landscaped our front yard, including abundant lighting, and replaced the sprinkler system throughout the property. They were a pleasure to work with and the end product is the envy of the neighborhood."

"I’ve been using John for years to keep the large tree in my front yard from burying us in olives. They contact me when the optimum time to spray comes around, I give them the ok & I don’t even have to be home when they do it. They leave me a bill - easy & reliable."

"We could not be more disappointed in the lack of quality and numerous items left incomplete. We feel that Tom broke every promise he made, especially about performing top quality work. We paid Tom over $26,000 to install flooring throughout, paint the entire interior and do two minor support beam repairs and various other small jobs that he never got around to, yet we feel we paid for. We have several walls that never got their 2nd or 3rd coats of paint, areas out of immediate view left completely unpainted, and door frames that were damaged and not replaced as instructed. There are paint speckles all over the house, on every window and areas on the floor where spilled pain was rubbed into the grain. Yesterday one of the closet shelving units Tom hung came crashing down; looks like he missed the support beams entirely. We had to buy an extra box of flooring material because they wasted so much of it with bad cuts, there was not any left over. We had to buy more because after the floor was installed one of the workers burned an area by knocking over a lamp and not noticing. One of the most disturbing issues was that there were underage family members working on site. Everything they did they did wrong because they got no guidance from their crew leader. Tom himself said he was unhappy with much of the work and promised to “fix everything” and did not; not even close. Tom must have said a dozen times, “I don’t want just this job. I want all your jobs.” And in the beginning we planned several other projects for him to do. But after the poor results of the first phase, and then, when we weren’t willing to commit to a 30k deck build after he repeatedly refused to provide us a written estimate, he just vanished, leaving all those promised “touch ups” undone. Every one of my door frames looks like the pic below. They said the new floor was too low but we stipulated in the contract that any and all door trims would be repaired or replaced. Communicating with Tom is a nightmare and after the fact we learned that had he called us and explained, lots of time and money would have been saved. Seriously, do not believe what this guy tells you. Considering the very poor quality we feel we were grossly overcharged. Hire someone else. The pics below are just A FEW examples."

"I would caution anyone considering Renovate Max and Ali (contractor/owner). There are several issues you will run into if you choose this contractor, but knowing them up front may help you decide or perhaps make changes to the standard contract to protect yourself. They include: 1. Estimating of how long a job will take. (10 weeks) vs reality (22 weeks). Ali under supported the project by peeling off workers to other jobs (even ones booked after my own). His own staff is quite small and over extended. 2.Costly under estimation of electrical (including basic code requirements around number of outlets needed in a kitchen) est: $4k, actual $14k. This one made me suspect intent - did the contractor do this to keep the original estimate low? I later noticed a line in his contract about how electrical estimates might change. When I did my pre-homework and checked references, this is something that came up with each previous customer, and I should have paid more attention. Get the electrician to visit and do the estimate up front, not Ali (owner/contractor). By the way, keep a close eye on the work of the electrical team. Poor communication between Ali and that team caused several headaches throughout the project. 3. Ali has a strong tendency to first blame the homeowner for problems during construction (including communication issues within his own team and the subcontractors he hires). He can be quite emotional rather than businesslike and send offensive emails and text. This volatility makes for a stressful environment for the homeowner and awkwardness for the embarrassed workers. On the plus side, I would like to complement Ali for his choice of some excellent workers, especially Martin, his 'Jack of all trades'. The floor subcontractor was fast and excellent. This was our largest change order, to refloor half the house, and it only took 3 days! The window subcontractor was fast and good. I am happy with most (not all) results from this large remodel project. I wish I had known some of these things up front, that's why I'm sharing with other homeowners"

"Corey seemed like a nice guy and we hired him to do a rushed landscape irrigation job to get our yard ready for a party. Knowing our timeline, we made sure he could start right away. After giving him a $300 deposit he pushed out the start date several days. The day he showed up, we made it clear that we didn’t appreciate the lack of professionalism and follow through. He took the feedback hard, told us that he’s had some personal issues, etc., and we agreed to move forward with the clear expectation of not being flakey. Corey and his girlfriend spent a few hours working on front yard with me and my husband, and then asked for an additional $300 deposit before they left. They were supposed to show up early this morning, knowing we would be up and starting at 6 am. I sent him a text at 9:30 asking when he would show up, then again at 11:30 and 1:00pm. He didn’t respond to my texts or calls, so I thought we got ripped off. Finally heard from him at 1:30, which was too late, and told him forget it. We offered to pay him for his time spent and asked for a refund of the difference. He got angry and said that he had spent all of the money on tools and supplies. I said that he could drop them off and we could settle out for his time, and he hung up on us. He said he relocated to Hayward to do my job, which was going to take a few days, and is inferring that we should cover his housing costs. The guy is a horrible communicator and a flake, who never apologized or owned any of the situation. He got over on us, and I hope this prevents other people from getting taken advantage of too."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in El Cerrito, CA

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
