"I just hired this company very recently and already they have put down one treatment and aerated and overseeded my lawn. They were very efficient and did a good job. They left me instructions on how to care for the newly seeded lawn so now it's up to me. I was impressed with everything from the phone operator to the guys that came. Very considerate and friendly. Also the price was the best I found."

"I'd used TruGreen in the past is why I chose them for my lawn care. I was originally set up on 4-6 week intervals to accomodate my financial needs. Everything was going as planned until I got a fertilization/weed control treatment & aeration in Sep within a week apart. I didn't realize what happened until I received the bill and contacted them to report a duplicated charge. I was told one of the charges included an aeration treatment and was a one time application indicated in the contract. This was not my understanding and must have been in very small print I could not read. When first asked about doing aeration, it was agreed to revisit in the fall. I was not asked, told or suggested this was being done so I got hit with that bill. Customer Service Rep was useless. Her resolution was to send someone out when I mentioned the service was incomplete since the gate was locked and the technician did not have access to my yard."

"Two service men consisting of the owner and a helper arrived on time and proceeded to check out problems I was having with my six-zone sprinkler system. They first found and repaired the controller for the system and recommended I continue to use that controller. I thought I would have to replace it. They then traced and found all the sprinkler heads and their individual controllers. They repaired one controller, cleaned, tested and adjusted all sprinkler heads. They also discussed with me an extension to the overall system to provide irrigation to another lawn area. They marked the locations for proposed new sprinklers and gave me a cost estimate. They spent about four hours on my property and were very professional, especially the owner of the company."

FAQs for lawn care aeration projects in Columbus, GA

Aeration is the best way to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant. Annual aeration makes your lawn more breathable and helps nutrients reach the roots, improving water absorption and reducing puddles where pests might breed. However, timing matters. It's best to avoid aerating during droughts, extreme heat, or if your lawn is battling weeds. A local pro can help you determine the ideal time for your yard.

Most lawns benefit from annual aeration to keep them healthy and thriving. If your lawn has a lot of thatch buildup—more than half an inch—you might need to aerate twice a year for a couple of years to get it under control. But if your soil isn't compacted and there's minimal thatch, you might be able to skip a year.

When you hire a professional lawn care company, a standard 10,000-square-foot lawn takes about 30 minutes to aerate. Uneven, sloped, or especially large lawns can take significantly more time. So, depending on your lawn's size and condition, the process can take anywhere from half an hour to several hours.

The best time to aerate your lawn is during the spring or fall when your grass is actively growing and the soil has enough moisture. Aerating once in the spring and once in the fall yields the best results. Avoid aerating when your lawn is dormant or right after heavy rain when the soil is too wet—that can make aeration less effective.

Even if your lawn looks healthy, aeration can still be beneficial. If you have good growth, proper drainage, and little thatch, you might not need to aerate right away. Regular aeration helps water and nutrients reach the roots, keeping your lawn strong over time. Keep an eye on your lawn's condition to decide when it might need aeration.
