Israel, the owner, was in regular contact during the whole process, and stopped by frequently during the two days when the majority of work was completed.
Although we knew what we wanted for most of the yard, we really didn't have many ideas for the pergola. Israel suggested building lattice and using boston ivy as the climbing plant. We liked the idea and design from the start and were pretty much blown away by the quality of the work and the attention to detail. The crew built the lattice themselves and fitted it into 4 by 4 redwood posts to make a strong and stable structure.
We got a few different estimates for the work, and Kolar's was competitive. We decided to work with them for a couple of reasons: (1) friends and neighbors had recommended them and (2) we were highly impressed with their attention to detail and with their insistence on using high quality plants, seed, and hardscaping materials. Their one-year warranty is great as well; if we run into any problems with the plants or grass in the spring, we know that they'll be around to fix them. The company even threw in a couple of extras that weren't included on the original estimate."
