"Three men arrive on time and discussed color options with me.  We chose a medium brown that coordinated with alder doors in adjacent rooms.  They scraped, sanded and smoothed the door, which has two full length windows along side the door, and then applied 3 layers of the stain and covering varnish to protect from the elements.  It looks wonderful and the painters were great to work with.  They just wanted to give me the door I wanted.  They were prompt, protected all the furniture and walls around the door, arrived when they said they would and finished as promised.  I would definitely recommend this company."

"I had sought bids from several contractors, and each of them told me what <strong><em>they </em></strong>do and how much it would cost. All of them proposed to install metal soffits on my colonial home, which would not have looked good. Van Vleet listened to what <em> <strong>I</strong></em> <strong> </strong>wanted, and told me that a composite-wood product was available, and he would install it for what turned out to be the same average cost as the other contractors. They also did a small roof repair job on another occasion, with the same satisfying results. We have moved out of the area, but if we were still in the Twin Cities, they would be my first go-to contractor for pretty much anything. <br />"

"The work was started in early May 2017 and finished in three weeks. We did not have to put any money down, just paid in full as the homes were completed. Roofs look great, as does the new venting. There were about 5-10 workers on site everyday and they progressed as weather allowed. Permits were pulled and the city approved. Many of us opted to use Thor to replace or upgrade gutters."

"The project went well. It was done to prevent any water damage from snow melt getting behind the siding and over the flashing due to older cedar siding beginning to crack. This was the problem according to A and L. I will know for sure as the snow melts this spring. Hopefully they were correct! <br /> I can't recall his name but the man who did our wall this summer really knew what he was doing, took his time and the framing and detail work around our three windows in that area looks very good. <br /> Jerry Stormo with A and L has been great to work with during the last two summers. He is honest, thorough and a really nice guy. He would always get right back to me if I had any questions or concerns with either project. <br />"

"Outstanding!  Dom personally responded with a great estimate in minimal time. Mark did a terrific job by promised deadline. He identified potential problems and fixed them on the spot. As electrician was out of town, I will have him come in as soon as he returns.  Overall, a great professional job!  Recommend Dom's to all. <br />"

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in Grand Forks, ND

Painting vinyl siding is a budget-friendly way to revive curb appeal without paying for new panels. As long as the boards aren’t warped, cracked, or leaking, a coat of high-quality acrylic paint can buy you another five to 10 years before replacement.

Stick to lighter shades so the siding doesn’t soak up excess heat, and prep the surface well for the paint to bond. If you’re seeing rot or moisture damage, skip the paint and plan for new siding instead.

High-quality acrylic paint is recommended for vinyl siding. Acrylic paint adheres firmly to vinyl surfaces and resists peeling and fading, providing a sleek and long-lasting finish. Ensure the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for optimal results. Your exterior painting pro has the expertise to properly prepare your siding’s surface to ensure proper adhesion.

Priming is not required if the vinyl siding remains in good condition and is properly cleaned. However, if the original color is severely faded or the panels have become porous, priming becomes essential. Priming provides a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and enhances durability, ensuring the acrylic finish adheres properly and lasts longer.

A paint sprayer is the quickest, most consistent way to coat vinyl siding. The fine mist reaches grooves a roller can miss and lays down an even layer in a fraction of the time. You’ll still need a brush for tight corners, but a sprayer slashes labor hours and reduces lap marks.

If you’re renting equipment, ask the supplier for a tip size made for exterior acrylics so the paint atomizes correctly and sticks to the siding.

Painted vinyl siding lasts between five and 10 years. The durability depends on the quality of the surface preparation and the local climate conditions. When the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepped, and high-quality acrylic paint is used, the finish endures longer. In hotter regions, the lifespan may be closer to five years, while cooler climates help extend it.
