"We had a wonderful experience. My2sons Remodeling painted most of our interior walls, installed batten, chair rail, replaced a tile backsplash and a damaged screen on porch. "We hired Clinton to repair some damaged walls in our bathrooms. When we asked him if it was necessary to remove the drywall and replace it, or if it would be possible to restore the plaster and paint it, he assured us that both options were viable and that the decision was up to us. We chose to restore the plaster, and the results were simply exceptional. His professionalism, experience, and attention to detail were evident throughout the entire process. The job went smoothly, and both Clinton and his team showed a high level of dedication and care at every step. The work not only met our expectations but exceeded them. What we appreciated the most was that with Clinton, we didn?t have to turn to other contractors, as he and his team covered all our needs. From the drywall repair and plaster restoration to painting and other details around the house, Clinton handled everything, providing a comprehensive and high-quality service."

Walters Fine Carpentry has been in business for 40 years-20 years in the triangle & surrounding areas. We specialize in bathroom remodeling and ceramic tile.

"This job did not go well from the start. Stephen could not provide the names of any clients who would allow me to view his previous work, but I decided to proceed because he said that he was skilled enough to do the carpentry, plumbing, and tile setting. The demolition work was carried out by his assistant, a very young (late teens, early 20s) man with a sledge hammer and without proper supervision. He destroyed most of the drywall adjacent to and near the tile that was being removed, necessitating major drywall replacement, which we had to pay for. At the same time, the trim around the windows was so badly damaged that we have to replace it. He also started destroying the cabinet that I wanted to keep, in spite of me saying so 3 times. Finally, he chipped the corner off the bathtub that, again, I had emphasized would be reused. This will cost me $600-$800 to repair. The repair work to the floor and some of the lower wall was completed reasonably well, but there were squeaks in the floor that we had to tell him to go back and brace. He argued that squeaks in the subfloor would not matter once cement board was installed, but we disagreed. He recommended that we remove and replace an exterior wall because of water damage, but we solicited advice from two other professionals who said that the wall could be repaired in place. Stephen wanted to argue with this decision even though we were adamant. Meanwhile, he wasn't planning to rebuild the adjacent wall even though it had worse water damage. He ended up making the repairs that we instructed him to do. The bathtub that was removed was centered in an alcove, but he said that he couldn't reinstall it in the center of the space, even though I pointed out that it had been centered before. Stephen said that there was a problem with moving the water lines for the shower to the wall that I wanted and that he would have to take the lines up under the tub and through a gang of studs to accomplish this. The new plumber moved the lines without any problems like Stephen had seen, and told us that he had capped off the water lines improperly, costing us extra money for parts we didn't need. The insulation in the exterior walls was installed with wire hangers, compressing the insulation. The insulation had gaps at the sides and the top/bottom from being cut sloppily. When we said that it had to be redone, he argued with us, so we terminated our relationship. (Go to Owens Corning YouTube to see the proper way to install insulation in walls.) The new carpenter that we hired had to redo some of the work because of poorly cut boards and lack of bracing. He also finished the frame to center the bathtub when it is reinstalled. We replaced at least twice as much sheetrock as we should have needed to because of the excessive damage. Stephen worked on this job for two weeks, but only accomplished about three days' worth of work, which made his hourly rate quite high. His general response to our concerns about his methods and quality was that he had done it right, even though we both are experienced with general construction and were not trying to cut costs."

FAQs for plaster repair projects in Hillsborough, NC

Yes, crumbling plaster poses a safety hazard. Crumbling plaster overhead can drop heavy pieces that injure anyone below. The risk increases if the material contains older additives, such as asbestos or lead-based paint, which can become airborne when the surface is disturbed. Have a qualified pro test and repair deteriorating areas quickly to keep your family—and pets—safe.

Ceiling plaster repairs require a lighter touch than wall repairs. Plaster repair professionals apply thinner coats of plaster to ceilings to reduce weight and smooth the surface, which helps prevent future sagging. Wall repairs can handle extra texture and additional layers without risking structural strain. A plaster repair pro will have the expertise to determine the best technique for your problem area.
