"I called for a bat exclusion inspection. First, (which should have been a red flag) they insisted I give them my credit card information before the visit. The inspection was $399 plus tax. The cost of the inspection would go towards the cost of the service as long as I used them to bat proof the house. The technician who came out was Mike Cottom Jr. He got to my house on time. He talked to me for about 10 minutes to get the information about the history of bats in my house. He spent about 5 minutes taking pictures and came inside to look at the two access holes the attic the electrician made to run some wiring. He said he saw no sign of bats, a colony or an infestation, just a small amount of bat poop. Then he went to his truck for about 20 minutes to write up the quote. Then spend another 20 minutes going over what he found. In total, he was here for about 1 hour. He never got up on my roof, which is one of the most likely the points of entry. There are huge gaps on either side of my attic dormer where it meets the roofline. The quote for exclusion was $5643.88. The first line item was caulking where the chimney meets siding. He guesstimated that was 60 linear feet. the total for caulking that area was $630. It shouldn't take more than an hour, maybe two if you are really slow to caulk that area. I am a paint and home repair contractor who has been caulking peoples houses for 25 years. I know how long it takes because Ive done it 1000 times. He also had $1700 for sealing the corner trim of the vinyl siding. Basically, stuffing it with steel wool and spray foam. I dont live in a mansion. I live in a very typical 3 bedroom center hall colonial. He counted 20 sections of corner trim at $85 per section. Seriously. He also quoted $995 to rent a lift to seal the three sides where the roof meets the soffit. If the 4 th side has to be done from a ladder, why cant the other three be done that way as well? Also, I rent lifts for a living. Its more like $300. He had $795 to install one bat valve. Basically, that a tube bats can leave, but cant come back in screwed onto the place he thinks is the point of entry. It takes about 20 minutes to set up the ladder, go up there, screw in the pipe and put the ladder away. He has $1470 for installing 6 "animal patches" where the roof meets the soffit. Basically, metal flashing screwed and caulked where the roof and soffit connect. If he knows how to measure, its a 6 hour job at most to do all 6 spots. He also wanted $390 to bend some hardware cloth and attach it to my bath fan and kitchen fan. Again, a crazy amount of money for a job that maybe at most would take one hour. The list he gave me is a one day job for two workers. The worst part is that even after charging over 5 times what a reasonable contractor would charge in labor for the services they are providing, they don't even guarantee you will be bat free! They only guarantee that no bats will penetrate the work they did. So, if they missed a spot bats can get in, you are back to square one paying them even more money to seal the spots they missed in there already expensive initial evaluation. Save your money, call someone else."

Kapp's is a family owned company of around 100 employees, no subcontractors. Quotes are free and based on the actual size of the area to be treated. We use only phosphorous-free granular fertilizers. Member of the Professional Lawn and Landscaping Network.

"I've been a customer of Kapp's Lawn Service for many years. To be up front, I do not water my lawn during the summer. I had a routine service, and it was very hot and humid. My lawn was not looking good. I called the office to cancel my service for the summer to let my lawn recover. I never complained about anything or anyone. A week later, Jim, the field manager came over and explained that Kapp's was going to aerate both my front and back lawn, and reseed it for FREE. WOW, that does not happen very often. When my lawn becomes healthy I will continue with their wonderful service. And they are refunding my last service call."

"We have had Orkin pest control services since 2015 at two residences. Services have always originated from this branch, not from any other, so my review is specific to this branch. During the past ~3 years, service costs have risen 50 percent and the level of service has decreased markedly. These two issues in tandem finally pushed me to cancel my service contract with this company. The Orkin representative who comes to the house is unpleasant, sometimes downright rude, and reluctant to spray inside the house rather than just outside. He also fills his giant water tank from my backyard spigot without my permission when he (apparently) thinks I'm not home--because he tries to drive away right afterward instead of knocking on the door--and that only stopped after I went outside once and asked him about it. Both he and the customer service reps are dismissive if I voice a concern, and he doesn't properly treat for seasonal pests such as pavement ants, which require two types of bait, savory/protein and sweet, to be controlled. His seeming lack of knowledge and attention has required an additional service call between scheduled visits, when the ants started making their way into my dining room from the back porch and another time into the bathroom on the first floor. The company advertises that the treatments are good for two months each and that it will not charge for service calls between treatments, but it does--if the company even sends someone out. Each time I have called for an additional service call--when the technician hasn't used the appropriate treatments, as evidenced by my itemized receipt and a Google search of the pesticides--my bill has risen appreciably and without notice. When asked why the cost of services has increased, the customer service rep's answer, just last week, was exactly and only this: "because." This is awful service all the way around. I'm disappointed. I used to rely on Orkin, and I felt relied to have the service and not have to worry about pests. That changed about a year and a half ago. Now I'm just another dissatisfied former customer. Note: The cost of service listed is for one basic maintenance service call to prevent, not treat already present, pests."

FAQs for bee removal projects in Independence, OH

Free wasp removal services are rare. Unlike bees, wasps don't produce honey, so beekeepers typically don't collect them. While some organizations might remove wasp nests for medical research, this is uncommon. In most cases, you'll need to pay for wasp nest removal. Check with your local municipality to see if they offer free or low-cost removal services.

Keeping hornets on your property poses serious safety risks. Hornets are aggressive insects that deliver potent venom and trigger severe allergic reactions. Their defensive behavior and larger stingers can cause extremely painful, medically significant stings, especially in populated areas. Although hornets help control specific insect populations, the health hazards they create far exceed any benefits, making their presence dangerous.

You should contact a wasp removal professional as soon as you discover a nest, especially if it's in a high-traffic area on your property. While small nests in open areas might seem manageable for a DIY approach, there's always a risk of stings. For nests in hard-to-reach places like attics or behind walls, it's best to rely on experienced professionals. The optimal time for wasp removal is in the spring when wasps start building nests.

Preventing future wasp or yellow jacket infestations requires proactive deterrence measures. You achieve this by installing fake nests that discourage new colonies, arranging follow-up inspections with a local exterminator, and applying natural repellents—such as vinegar, coffee grounds, and cinnamon—around key entry points. These actions firmly block these stinging insects from establishing nests near your home.

Killing a wasp triggers its alarm pheromones, which immediately signal nearby wasps to converge on the disturbance. This action forces the insect community to become aggressive and increases the risk of multiple stings. Such a response transforms the situation into a hazardous swarm, which is why professional removal is essential.

Wasps do not return to a treated nest because they do not reuse old nests. The treatment removes the chemical cues that once attracted the wasps, and the elimination process clearly disrupts their established territory. As a result, a treated nest effectively discourages new nest construction nearby, ensuring the area remains safe.
