"Over the years due to many reasons our logs were in desperate need of repair and attention. Jason and his crew at Blastmasters were simply amazing!  <br />     They were very polite, clean, efficient and professional. Our family has called on the Lord to lead us in almost every decision that we have to make. In this day of MODERN TECHNOLOGY we now must confess that in our urgency to find knowledgeable and professional people to restore our home, sadly this time we turned to Google instead of GOD. We just wanted to be sure that we had researched everything on log restoration before we invested any money. But...Our GOD is AMAZING! He sent us a team of Christian men to do the job anyway! They were just a great group of guys to have around for a week. Our home looks Beautiful and we have fallen in love with it all over again! <br />      We loved watching the process and Jason always took time to explain everything they were doing to us. They took such great care to repair the damaged logs and blasting process removed EVERYTHING on the surface. Many layers of stain, years of weathering, and water stains from a leaky roof. We did have some prep work to do before  Blastmasters arrived at our home to begin the job. We removed everything from our porch. Took out all of our screens and then we put up plastic all over the interior walls to help contain the dust in the house. After the blasting was done I pulled down the plastic one room at a time to vacuum and wash down the walls. This was a lot of work, but worth the time.  Both the blasting and the restoring process requires dry warm weather. Jason always kept a very close eye on the weather reports before and during the time he was here. Do not think that this is a service that you can call and order and then have done within a week or two.  Because of the weather and the great work Blastmasters does, plan to be put onto a waiting list. The end result is well worth the wait. Get on the list! You will be glad that you did!"

"I typically do not take the time to write reviews but my experience with Joel Zelenske of Zelenske Painting has been so positive that I wanted to write a review. I am someone who is very hesitant to hire painters (worrying about the cost and end results). I am so thankful I hired Joel. His price was competitive, he was flexible working with both of our schedules and always showed up on time to get the job done. Joel painted three rooms for me, a bathroom, sitting room and master bedroom. He encountered three layers of wallpaper in one room that had to be steamed and scraped off. He went the extra mile to get the wallpaper removed and complete the painting on time. Joel is an excellent painter, competent, clean and courteous! We have already hired Joel and his crew to paint the exterior of our home. We highly recommend Joel Zelenske Painting! John & Deb O."

"Our bathroom remodel was a little more than an average bath remodel. It included adding a wall, opening a doorway, electrical repairs, and structural repairs.  We were lucky to call John in the dead of winter, so he was able to estimate our job the next day.  The estimated amount was almost exactly the amount it ended up being. <br /> John promptly arrived every day at 8am.  This time is nice for us, because it gives you a chance to get the kids off and get settled.   <br /> John charges by time and material, which we also like.  Other contractors try to give you a fixed cost, so they over-estimate to cover unexpected things, or they hit you with change orders for every small detail.  John doesn't do this.  As he's working, he tells you which ways will be faster (aka cheaper) and which ways will be better.   You decide what you want.  It was also nice that he doesn't mark-up materials.  In fact, he takes pride in re-using things that others would needlessly toss in the dumpster. <br /> Our bath was 3 x 6 subway tiles on the walls and tub area with a marble mosaic on the floor.  We also used in-floor heating under the tile.  John's tile work was very meticulous.  He took the time to ensure layout was the best compromise possible and would try to steer us away from decisions that could cause problems with layout.  We also noticed that John's drywall skills are fantastic.  He takes the time to get perfect drywall.  When the paint goes on the surface looks perfect. <br /> Everyone makes mistakes and every renovation has many unexpected issue.  John made very few, but when he did, he immediately showed you what happened and corrected it, or gave you choices to see the best way to work around the issue.   To us, trustworthiness is the most important skill a contractor can have, and John earned this on this project. <br /> Writing this good review is bittersweet.  We plan to use John for many projects in the future, but more A++ reviews make it harder to get on his schedule. <br />"

"Overall, Everything Went  well. Contractor did a good job of painting and caulking a difficult vaulted ceiling I gave them to paint. <br /> The only problem I had was with pinning down an exact day of service, and we had to wait a bit. This was not a problem though, as it was worth the wait. I would highly recommend this painter though in the tough area the house is located in, as it is hard to find anyone good to actually show up and do the work! <br />"

"This is not the first time that Steve has done painting for us, and I'm certain that it won't be the last. He has been in the business for 30+ years, and his experience and dedication are evident. This was a rather extensive job, but it took just a little over a week to complete (had my husband and I tackled it, I'm sure it would have taken a month or better). He and his partner were at the house working before I left for work every day, and usually just leaving when I got home. (About 7:30am-5:00pm). We have an in-home nanny and an infant daughter, and he did a wonderful job working around them and giving them the space they needed. He is an honest businessman and a hard worker, and did the job in the time and for the price he had quoted. Overall, his work is of the highest quality, and at a very fair price."

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in Johnstown, PA

Painting vinyl siding is a budget-friendly way to revive curb appeal without paying for new panels. As long as the boards aren’t warped, cracked, or leaking, a coat of high-quality acrylic paint can buy you another five to 10 years before replacement.

Stick to lighter shades so the siding doesn’t soak up excess heat, and prep the surface well for the paint to bond. If you’re seeing rot or moisture damage, skip the paint and plan for new siding instead.

High-quality acrylic paint is recommended for vinyl siding. Acrylic paint adheres firmly to vinyl surfaces and resists peeling and fading, providing a sleek and long-lasting finish. Ensure the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for optimal results. Your exterior painting pro has the expertise to properly prepare your siding’s surface to ensure proper adhesion.

Priming is not required if the vinyl siding remains in good condition and is properly cleaned. However, if the original color is severely faded or the panels have become porous, priming becomes essential. Priming provides a smooth, even base that improves paint adhesion and enhances durability, ensuring the acrylic finish adheres properly and lasts longer.

A paint sprayer is the quickest, most consistent way to coat vinyl siding. The fine mist reaches grooves a roller can miss and lays down an even layer in a fraction of the time. You’ll still need a brush for tight corners, but a sprayer slashes labor hours and reduces lap marks.

If you’re renting equipment, ask the supplier for a tip size made for exterior acrylics so the paint atomizes correctly and sticks to the siding.

Painted vinyl siding lasts between five and 10 years. The durability depends on the quality of the surface preparation and the local climate conditions. When the siding is thoroughly cleaned and prepped, and high-quality acrylic paint is used, the finish endures longer. In hotter regions, the lifespan may be closer to five years, while cooler climates help extend it.
