Steketee Turf Service is a locally owned lawn care business that has been providing various lawn services to the Caledonia, MI area for over 30 years. We are members of several organizations, including the Michigan Turf Grass Foundation, the Small Business Association of Michigan, and the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association. We provide a high quality service, as evidenced by our motto: making the grass greener on your side of the fence. Steketee Turf Service provides a variety of different lawn care and lawn maintenance services. We perform lawn aeration, core aeration, lawn fertilizing, and weed control. We also offer lawn and perimeter pest control services. We employ certified technicians that are capable of handling all of your lawn care and fertilization needs in Caledonia. We are locally owned and operated and we like to apply a personal touch to all of our services. When you call on Steketee Turf Service for your lawn maintenance requirements, you are calling on true experts. We personalize our programs to fit your needs. Call on us to perform your lawn fertilizing services. Lawns need a certain number of nutrients in order to thrive. Most notably, lawns require nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Nitrogen is the most important nutrient for growth and development. It promotes root and shoot growth, density, and a healthy green color. Phosphorous is essential to the photosynthesis process and is important in seed growth. Potassium is the second most-used nutrient by grass, right behind nitrogen. It aids in hardiness and disease resistance, and has a high potential to be lost by leaching. Steketee Turf Service has the knowledge necessary to determine which nutrients your lawn is deficient in so that we can fertilize it properly. We offer a 5-step program for lawn care. In the early spring, we apply a complete balanced fertilizer with pre-emergent crabgrass control. In late spring, we apply a fertilizer with weed control. In the summer we apply a balanced fertilization and spot treatment for weeds. In fall we apply another fertilization and broadleaf weed control. By late fall, your lawn is preparing for winter so we apply a winter dormant feeding that promotes root development and helps your lawn be green sooner next spring. We also do core aeration which involves removing small plugs of grass and soil from the lawn to give the roots room to expand and take in nutrients. Compact soil can make it hard for your lawn to take in nutrients, and that is where core aeration services come in. Crabgrass is a problem, but it doesn’t have to be with Steketee Turf Service. A healthy lawn has more protection against crabgrass as crabgrass needs open spaces to grow and thrive. If your lawn is healthy, it is less likely to have bald patches and is therefore hardier against crabgrass all on its own. Rely on us to make your lawn healthy enough to resist crabgrass and other diseases! 8 EMPLOYEES. NO SUBS. COST IS DETERMINED BY THE JOB. NO TRAVEL CHARGES.

"After 50 years spreading fertilizer and weed control ourselves we got smart last year called TuffTurf. It was a good call as the lawn looks great and we have found them to be very pleasant with excellent communication."

"I had an area that was a former veggie garden. This no longer fit my lifestyle so I hired Mackinaw Landscaping to help me convert it to lawn space. I had been spraying it with weed killer all summer so it wouldn't be a problem for the lawn-to-be. The owner of company came today and cleaned up all the debris of dead vegetation and skimmed off the patches of stubborn weeds and carried those off. Then he leveled the whole plot with a gill and finished it by hand raking. I had some wood planks that were in the way and he moved them for me! I would hire this company again in a heartbeat! Not only did they do a spectacular job, but cleaned up the surrounding area before they left! Very pleasant to do business with. <br />"

"This was our third season with AAA Lawn Care and here is a bit of history with them over the 3 years. They were originally called in to do an evaluation of our lawn when Scotts Lawn Care was not getting the job done properly. The tech who came out explained that after two weeks of weed control being applied you should be able to see the weeds either died or starting to wither which they were bot. He also said with a good application you should be able to walk the lawn and see the pellets of products in the grass. In our case we couldn't and he explained they were prolly spreading it too fast and thin. We decided to let Scotts go and went with AAA. <br /> Our first year with them was awesome. The weeds died and the lawn instantly started looking better. We never had to call them back for a touch up. We also did their soil conditioner, and core aeration. The only thing I didnt like the first year was they did the core aeration in the summer, instead of in the fall or spring like you seen it done most the time, also we did get the typical soil clumps you would normally get after this type of treatment. <br /> The second year was off to a great start as well except this time around the weed treatment didnt seem to have the same punch it did the year before and we had to call a couple times to have another treatment which they were also good about but sometimes call in it seemed like a hassle to them and they had to "fit" us in. Core aeration this year was done in the fall and seemed to have better results then the year before, as I think this time around the soil was softer in the fall than summer. This year we also used their mole program which worked but worked so good it almost made it not worth paying the price for the service because it charged for the whole year and we only had to use it the firs time. That's where the first problems started. We never got our fall or late fall treatments. No one ever showed up. The sometime late winter 2014 we got a call from one of their sales reps stating they wanted us back as a customer, I explained to him that we never canceled our service and we never got our fall or late fall treatments. He stated it must have been a mistake and that if we could over look that he would give us a great deal. I agreed and we signed back up for our six treatments. They gave us the first app for 19.00 which was great and they also gave us the core aeration for 50 vs 75 and the soil conditioner for 25. <br /> Year 2014, started off slow didn't get spring app until 4/30/14 while other companies where out doing the weeks before. I was told they were running a few weeks behind. Again the weed killer didn't seem to be working had to setup another service call. Didn't get late spring app until 6/17/14, again was told they were running behind a few weeks. summer app came 7/30, told the same thing running behind. Late summer app was done 9/25, same excuse, and fall app done 10/29. At the time of writing this the late fall app has not been done. I called them after this app and asked if I am now just get the fall app and its November basically when am I going to get the late fall, a part time office lady said that's a good question I typically don't work this late in the year let me find out, she explained that they are short staffed because most of their college workers have gone back to school or the seasonal workers are done for the year and that weather permitting the app would be done at the end of November, at which time I asked what about snow and she told me snow is good for the late fall app because its fast release. Again this year had to call multiple times about apps not killing weeds and noticed they years apps appeared to be rushed and thinly applied like the same results we got from Scotts. It seriously took more time to load and unload the trailer then it did to do the app. Lots of spots were never hit and I clearly watched them not get close to the fence line or around swing set. The biggest difference between the first year and the other two was that the first year a man walked out the app with a broadcast spreader and blanket sprayed the lawn for weeds. The second two years they started using a motorized machine that did everything in one. I believe this is where the quality went down hill. Their prices are good compared to Scotts and the first year was awesome but sophomore and junior years were a hassle and will not be coming back next year. <br /> This is not meant to bash them as a company but a truthful review of my experience with them over a period of three years. <br />"

"The local company is awesome, they bent over backwards. The trouble is with correspondence or payments has to go right to corporate. They are clueless and I had a bad experience with corporate and for that reason I will probably not use them again. How they handled the initial correspondence was bad, a lot like a bad car sales man. They brought my house up through google earth and tried to tell me what my lawn looked like from that aerial picture and it is nothing like that. I said I wanted someone out there and he said that is not how they do it. They called when I told them not to, it was a bad experience. The only thing that saved it is the local rep came out. I called them a liar and hung up them and somehow the local guy got wind of it and came out the next day and were very apologetic. If they were local and independent I would stay with them. I told them I had problem spots and wanted the local rep to look at them, he said no after you sign up then we will come out and it is in all inclusive package so we will take care of your needs and I said no. I do enjoy the service."

"<p>They did not do what I asked, it was expensive and I was not pleased. I never had them back. I had one problem area in my yard and I asked if they could give me some advice. All they did was kill the weeds so there is nothing growing there now. That was all that was green. I am still dealing with that but they are not doing it. All I remember was I got a thing in the mail asking if they could help with my lawn. They did not listen to what I said. I tried to explain the situation with my lawn and all that was growing there was weeds. I needed some solutions so that the grass would grow and all they did was kill the weeds. I guess they put fertilizer down, but if there is no grass to grow that doesn't help. I think it was $45 every time they came out. If it was a good job I guess the price was alright. I told them how unhappy I was with what they did and they just wanted to come back and do the same thing again. I guess they were on time. </p>"

"Talked to Joe and received an estimate for a one time lawn care service. He explained that the price would be $90 because how tall my grass(calf high) was and I have just under an acre of land. We setup a time for Friday or Tuesday. Around 1:50p two guys showed up and started working on my lawn. Went out to talk to them about being a day early and they said they wanted to get it in today because it was suppose to rain Friday. I could not believe that they just came over and got the job done the same day. Super impressed with how quick and efficient they where."
