"Gary Simpson quoted me $70,000 for a renovation project. I had to cut losses and let him go at $94,000 and 50% completion. The bathroom showers and tile work were good but everything else was poorly done or not done at all. Gary also broke my nice corian countertop and left it in a heap in the garage. He took zero responsibility, claiming it was poorly made. The paint job looked like 3rd graders got in a paint fight. When I questioned the progress, Gary reassured me we would be “close to that $70k mark.” Gary had done a few minor jobs previously so I trusted him. BIG mistake! I requested receipts for the nearly $30,000 he charged me in materials and Gary produced only $4,000 for the final week and the receipts included items not even used in the project as well as equipment like a paint sprayer, ratchet straps for his truck, jig sets, tool box organizer, drill bits, saw blades, etc that he took on to subsequent jobs. When I demanded more receipts - Instead of receipts, I received an email from Gary’s attorney informing me Mr. Simpson would be filing a mechanics lien against the property unless I paid what he says. What if he said $50,000 or $100,000 in materials? The consumer is at the mercy of the contractor. I would keep this in mind if you are considering rolling the dice on Gary Simpson and Simpson Construction, LLC. I wish I could post pictures. Most of the house was in worse condition AFTER $94,000 of “work” completed. Thankfully, I have a couple of great friends who know how to do construction work to come over and correct the problems of the $400 an hour contractor. Unreal. When you look at pictures, remember: this is AFTER $94,000 paid!"
