"

Our 70-year old home was looking quite sad with paint peeling on every side, rotten boards, and a general sense of neglect. We were unsure of what could be done to get it back into shape.

Of all the paint contractors we contacted (5 in total), Tyler from Shades of Rose put us most at ease. His bid was very competitive for the amount of work and he was honest, straight-forward, and patient with whatever questions we had. His crew arrived on time every day, were courteous and professional, and cleaned up thoroughly every day. They even removed and reinstalled our crazy storm windows without a complaint - which was a herculean task (Tyler said afterwards that they were the most difficult the team ever had to deal with).

At the end of the last day when we had our final walk around, I was amazed at the transformation of our house. I think Shades of Rose did a tremendous job and I am thankful that we invested in them. Also outstanding was Tyler's reassurance that they would come out to fix up anything that bugged us over the next few weeks. We also have a 3-year warranty and the crew will come out if there are any issues over that time frame.

I would definitely recommend Shades of Rose and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

"They did excellent work. They were on time every day. All the work was done as we requested (they painted the entire exterior of our large house). They worked quickly and efficiently. They cleaned up every day and took care of every detail. They were reasonably priced. I would definitely hire this company again."

"I purchased this home in Dec. I noticed there was water pooling on the patio, so asked for bids for mud Jacking. Toro construction responded and came out right away. Not even sure if they do mud jacking. They convinced me that I need to replace those sections of concrete and so I added a few other sections that were cracked etc. I paid them 2000 to start the project. They gave me a copy job estimate but never a contract. They were to start on Monday but I called them and texted, on the Thursday before, asking them to come back and requote the project, because when I moved all my plants etc. there was another cracked section. They did not respond to my messages. I finally left one that said do not have your men show up until we discuss the project. They didn’t show up on Monday, she finally texted saying she was in a meeting. They came and tore out part of the patio, that week but said they had other jobs scheduled and were at the mercy of the concrete company to schedule my project. They wanted to come and do some work on Saturday but I would not be home so I said Sunday, she agreed on Sunday. But they were a no show again, she decided that they should not work on Sunday. They did the pour the following week and I discussed with their worker that the two sections were not acceptable. One had a bad patch job and the other had a large divot where it still held water. Other areas had divots but this one you could see from looking at it. I paid him 2900 on the day they poured because he said he had to pay his workers. I told him what I wanted fixed and he agreed to come on Saturday and repair. I would think he could communicate this to the office manager who is his wife. This was another no show day. Then I get a text from their office manager: “Good afternoon. Your lack of response to my messages and emails as well as the past due balance has left me no other option but to pursue a lien on property. Please respond by end of day.” She had not even come out to look at the work completed to see the quality of work. I had discussed everything with the boss on the site and he agreed to fix it. She needed to come out and talk to me. I then texted her with pictures of the two areas, and my complaints and stated that if she put a lien on my property before looking at the project I would sue. She then got belligerent and said that I was abusive and yelling at the guys on the jobsite, which is not true, I just stated the facts to them. Instead of coming herself she sent the second in command worker who agreed it was bad, this was on the 9th of May. He said they would come on Monday. I texted on Monday after a no show, I texted her again, she said between 10-12, I texted again at 12, a no show. On the 15th I asked when it was scheduled, she said she would let me know. She said that I have continually threatened the workers and herself. Which is not true. I pointed out that she was the one that said she was going to put a lien on my property. She said this was a threatening comment to her. “She felt that my areas of concern don’t actually rise to the level of replacement.” Then in her next text she says “Yes project needs change” and noted that she was just informing me of lien potential. But that is not what she said. She noted in this text that the concrete needs to be sealed to achieve a more cohesive finish, that was not mentioned before. Only that I need to seal. They did provide the name of the sealer they use. She noted that they can’t guarantee the work that I perform. When they redid the 2 sections they look worse than they did the first time. It was like the concrete was too dry and it is crumbly around the edges, the corners are falling out etc. They left the concrete residue on my yard, they left the concrete residue in the track that is there to drain the water. I should not have to clean that up. He came back and looked at it when I was not at home, but his comment is that he is done and it needs to be sealed. I am not willing to seal it at this point. Once I do, the concrete is mine. It is a bad representation of what quality concrete should look like. When it rained the other day you could see the new sections were white compared to the rest of the patio. The rest of the new concrete he treated with an acid wash, the last repair he did not. Not sure if this is why it is white. I will attach photos to show the issue.."

"I had several painting contractors give bids for the exterior painting of my home. I felt extremely comfortable and confident in Tony Machain's knowledge when he came to my home for the purpose of proposing a bid. He seemed very knowledgeable. When I received his bid, I could immediately tell that he was a person who pays attention to detail. The bid was complete and comprehensive including the scope, sequence of the work and clean up process. It also addressed the process for change orders or extras. Once the contract was signed and the weather was suitable, the painters' power washed the house to ensure a nice, clean base. They let the house dry and then as soon as possible began to prep for painting. Caulking and sanding where necessary was done prior to the day of painting. The painters took great care in masking off areas and covering with plastic. I was very pleased that there was no evidence of overspray once the painting was done. The first coat was sprayed and backrolled to ensure that the paint was worked into the wood. The second coat was sprayed for a flawless finish. Once the job was finished, Tony came by to look over the job. He marked a few spots that began to show through on the trim after the paint dried that needed an extra coat. The painters came promptly, as soon as the weather permitted, to touch up. The paint job is beautiful. I am very pleased. My neighbors were impressed with the quality of the paint and the efficiency of the painters. I would recommend IM Painting with 5 stars."

FAQs for exterior home or structure paint or stain projects in Molalla, OR

For aluminum siding, go with a high-quality 100% acrylic exterior paint. Start with an oil-based primer to ensure the finish adheres and shields the metal from oxidation and moisture. The primer seals the surface and provides the acrylic with a surface to grip. Skip latex primers or paints—their reaction with aluminum can trap bubbles and cause early peeling.

How long will painted aluminum siding last?

A well-done paint job on aluminum siding can last around 15 years, making the upfront effort worthwhile. Longevity hinges on solid prep: thoroughly cleaning the surface to remove chalky residue, dirt, and mildew so the new paint can adhere properly. It’s also important to paint when temperatures are between 50°F and 80°F, as extreme heat or cold can affect drying and adhesion. Steer clear of rainy days—moisture under the paint weakens adhesion and speeds up peeling or fading, which can significantly shorten the lifespan of your fresh coat.

Plan on repainting when the finish starts fading or leaves a chalky, white residue on your hand. Check the siding each year; if there’s a powdery residue on your palm, it indicates oxidation is underway on your siding. A fresh coat of paint stops peeling before it starts, boosts curb appeal, and keeps the metal protected.

Spray painting aluminum siding offers significant benefits compared to other application styles. Spray painting delivers even coverage, rapid application, and enhanced adhesion compared to traditional painting methods. This technique ensures every surface is evenly coated, minimizes labor time, and provides a sleek, professional finish that withstands weather and oxidation for lasting results.

The return on investment for aluminum siding is 70%. For example, a $10,000 aluminum siding installation will add $7,000 to your home’s resale value. Regional housing markets, the quality of siding materials, and ongoing upkeep—including repainting and repairs—influence final ROI. Investing in professional installation and regular maintenance ensures you recoup a significant portion of your siding costs when it’s time to sell.

Several materials can replace aluminum siding, each offering unique trade-offs. Vinyl siding requires minimal upkeep and resists fading, lasting up to 30 years. Wood siding provides classic warmth but demands regular painting or sealing. Fiber cement and composite siding offer exceptional durability and design flexibility, requiring minimal maintenance. Brick veneer and stucco create premium, long-lasting exteriors, but they come with higher upfront costs and increased installation complexity.
