"I am completely disappointed and appalled with this company. I received the worst customer service and professional I have ever experienced with a "professional" company. The gentleman who came to my house to do the free estimate wrote the quote on the back of his business card as the "official quote." He said they could get the work done in the next 2 weeks, which I was impressed with because gutter companies are super busy right now. So I said that sounds great and he would be in touch to schedule an appointment, giving me a chance to quote a couple other companies and have the option to say no if I found a better deal. Two days later some guys show up at my house at 8 AM in an unmarked truck saying they were at my house to do the gutter work. I had not received an official quote OR a written or verbal notification of the appointment. Fortunately for them, I needed my gutters fixed as soon as possible and they had a comparable price, so I let them do the work. Immediately the workers started blaring their music which woke up my stay at home mom neighbor and her daughter, they were extremely unhappy!! The workers also left cigarette butts, screws and other debris all over my driveway, yard, and on the street in front of my house!! The work was done in a timely manner and it seemed like they did good work so that is a plus to this all. THEN I started getting hounded by the manager of the company about a payment. I had still not received ANY formal information what I would be paying for, and I had to ask multiple times for it to be given to me before I gave them a payment. On the quote it said I did not have to pay until January, however my phone was getting blown up for a payment (and they were not accepting of the payment to be mailed in with the quote for my own validity purposes). Then, a few days later, the owner of the company emailed me to get a free estimate on my house?!?!?! AND the guy who had already come to my house to do the estimate called me again to schedule an appointment. I was completely taken back that they had no record of my address or having the work documented in their system. FINALLY, once I had a verbal conversation with both the owner and manager, I realized there was a warrantee on the products put on my house but was never given the information of that, even from the beginning quote (remember the price was written on the back of a business card). So they promised to email that information in case anything were to happen I knew what was covered and how to go about getting things replaced. But, over a week later I still have not received an email with all this information; it is NOT MY JOB TO HAVE TO AS FOR THIS INFORMATION!!!!! All in all, the gutters are great and I am impressed with the quickness of getting them up; BUT everything else about this company is a complete disaster and a mess. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE ELSE, PICK ANOTHER COMPARABLE COMPANY WHO WILL GIVE YOU THE CORRECT PAPERWORK AND INFORMATION FROM THE BEGINNING!"

FAQs for holiday lighting add or remove projects in Pleasant Plains, IL

If climbing ladders or handling wiring isn’t in your comfort zone, hire a pro. Look for installers who post clear per-foot or hourly rates, carry insurance, and have solid reviews. Comparing at least three quotes helps you spot fair pricing without sacrificing safety. Skipping credentials to save a few dollars can cost you far more in repairs, so pick a qualified team and enjoy a safe, eye-catching display.

Yes, booking between February and September often scores lower rates because demand is light and pros have open calendars. You might even negotiate a discount package that includes removal or storage. If the budget is tight, ask whether a handyperson or an off-season permanent-light install makes sense for your home and timeline.

Determining the number of holiday lights for your house depends on your home’s size and specific decorative vision. Your project requires 10 to 20 light strands for a basic exterior display, with 100 lights allocated for eaves and an additional 10 to 20 bulbs for each awning.

For trees and substantial shrubs, allocate five to 10 strands per unit to achieve complete and balanced illumination across your property.

Tipping isn’t mandatory, but it’s a nice way to thank your installer for a job well done. Most homeowners offer 10% to 20% of the total bill or round up to an even figure if the crew exceeds expectations. A small extra goes a long way toward showing appreciation—and may help you snag priority booking next season.

Yes, you can install holiday lights yourself if your property layout is straightforward and your electrical system is secure. Homeowners who are confident in their ability to safely handle wiring and use proper equipment can save money with a DIY approach.

However, it is crucial to test all outlets thoroughly and secure the proper ladders and safety gear before starting. Careful planning and adherence to safety guidelines are essential to protect yourself and your home while achieving an attractive display.

Start by clearing the area of loose debris, damaged shingles, and anything that could trip you up. Test outdoor outlets and, if you’re unsure, bring in an electrician. Use a sturdy extension ladder (or scaffolding for very high spots) and never work alone—having a helper steady the ladder is non-negotiable. Taking these simple steps keeps you, your roof, and your new lights safe.
