Founded in 2007, GreenSavers is a mission-driven contractor committed to helping people save energy. Start with a home energy audit or consultation for efficient HVAC, insulation, or Milgard windows. GreenSavers stands out as a Certified B Corporation™ and multi-year winner of the U.S. DOE’s ENERGY STAR® Contractor of the Year Award.

"I wish I could give less than 1 star. This company took my money and conducted an audit, and after repeated requests on my end for the results and repeated promises on their end to give the results and a promise of a refund, have yet to do so in the 7+ months since the audit was conducted. This was after a multiple month wait on their wait-list to get the energy audit in the first place. I know this company has stellar reviews, but this has been one of the worst experiences with a business I've ever had."

"I have hired Bret Chenoweth for multiple projects, one included installing a French door. I felt Bret overall was professional and honest. Additionally, I have recommended Bret to others which I know some have used him based on my recommendations. About a year after the door was installed it started sagging. Bret came out and fixed it without issue. Explaining it was a bad hinge. He explained the hinges are adjustable and one just needed to be replaced. About 5 years later, the same door started sagging again. The door and components are still under warranty. I called Bret explained the situation. He told me to call the manufacturer of the door. Which I did and learned that I can’t file a complaint he has to. He called me back a few days later and told me the manufacturer of the components are bankrupt, he is responsible, and he would fix the door where his labor would be free and I would pay for any needed material. Bret stated he would give me a call in a couple of days with a date and time. Bret has never called, refuses to answer the phone when I tried to get a hold of him. I’m giving Bret a F due to - Deducted one star/letter because I feel Bret has provided me false information on numerous occasions o Hinges are not adjustable o Manufacturer of the components are not bankrupt; the original company went bankrupt however they never stopped doing business and they still honor their components/warranty. o French door was probably purchased after the manufacturer of the components started doing business under their new name. o The initial issue wasn’t a bad hinge, Bret shimmed the door to correct the sagging. - Deducted two stars/letters because in my opinion Bret does not stand behind his work or his verbal commitments. o Two other contractors have reviewed the issue with my French door and stated contractor did not install the door correctly. Shimming the door is /was just a bandage, the door needs to be reset. - Deducted one star/letter because in my opinion Bret is not a profession. Refusing to answer the phone and talk with a repeat customer and a customer who has recommended you is just unprofessional."

FAQs for attic insulation installation projects in Portland, OR

The best attic insulation depends on where you live, the project stage, and your budget. New builds often benefit from structural insulated panels for top-tier efficiency, while homes in very warm regions can see big cooling savings with reflective insulation. Blown-in, loose-fill, and spray foam all excel at filling odd spaces in finished attics. Talk with a certified local pro to match the material to your climate, space, and wallet.

You’ll only need a licensed electrician if the project calls for moving existing wiring or adding new fixtures. For straightforward insulation jobs, your insulation installer can work around current cables. That said, never start insulating until a pro has checked any questionable wiring. If you suspect damaged or outdated circuits, book an electrician first to keep the project—and your home—safe and code-compliant.

Without air sealing, even the best insulation can underperform. Gaps let heated or cooled air leak out, forcing your HVAC system to work harder and driving up energy bills. Sealing those cracks before adding insulation locks in conditioned air, keeps moisture at bay, and helps the new material hit its full R-value. Ask your insulation pro to tackle sealing first so you enjoy consistent comfort and lower monthly costs.

Among readily available options, structural insulated panels and rigid foam boards top the charts with R-values that can reach 8.0. They’re ideal for new construction or very cold climates where maximum thermal resistance matters most. If you live in a milder zone, blown-in or loose-fill insulation may deliver plenty of performance at a lower price. Weigh the upfront cost against energy savings—and lean on a local pro’s guidance—to pick the smartest fit.
