John W. Magie Enterprises Inc. started in business in 1982 as a Lawn Care Company. In 1985 we purchased another Lawn Care Company out of Harrison, Ohio that had been in business for 32 years. This was a necessary purchase to grow our business and expand our demographics as the area continued to grow and review our options for future possibilities. It was decided to become a Lawn & Garden Dealership in 1988. We partnered with John Deere, Toro, and other engine manufactures. By 1990, (80%) of our business was retail, parts, and service of lawn and garden equipment. We had continued growth over the next 10 years. In 2000 we had a major road split our property in half. The new highway (Butler Regional Highway or Rt. 129) allowed us additional traffic and retail opportunities. In the Spring of 2003 we started building a new state of the art facility for our industry which was approximately 100 yards from our original farm type setting. On October 10, 2003 we opened our new facility. Our new facility was built around increasing our efficiency to service our customers better. We continue to expand our service opportunity by providing at Home Service for our customers and selling Preferred Customer Maintenance Plans. We have partnered with other retail outlets to be a Service Partner to continue our growth and expertise by being a parts and service solution for our customers.

Thornton Landscape provides comprehensive landscape services from design through installation. We work with residential, commercial and developer customers throughout the Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Greater Dayton region. Thornton Landscape was founded in 1961 by the Thornton family, in Montgomery, Ohio. Rick Doesburg began working for the company in 1969 and bought the company from the Thorntons when they retired in 1999. He now serves as the CEO. Thornton Landscape has been designing, installing and maintaining beautiful and quality outdoor spaces for more than 50 years. Through the decades, many customers and team members have become family and indispensable to the organization. Like Rick Doesburg, many of Thornton Landscape’s 35 employees have been a part of this family-owned company for more than 25 years. They are distinguished in the green industry through extensive education and training and many of them have earned certifications as Landscape Professionals, Landscape Architects and Landscape Technicians. Rick Doesburg and his son Andy Doesburg, president, have served in numerous leadership positions in the industry. Rick served as Associates Council President for the Cincinnati Homebuilders Association in 1983 and 2000. He has also held the position of president for PLANET and Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association (ONLA). Following in his father’s footsteps, Andy has also served as president of the Associates Council of the Greater Cincinnati Homebuilders Association in 2007. And he was the ONLA president in 2009.
