"Mottern did a fantastic job designing and installing a large flagstone-on-concrete patio for us. The work included excavating and leveling the site, pouring and re-enforcing the slab, and selecting and purchasing the stone, brick and other materials. In addition to the patio, Mottern also filled in an approx. 12 sq/ft section of brick wall where a door had been converted to a window. The filled-in brick and mortar matches the original 50-year old wall perfectly. Overall, the entire Mottern crew was prompt, responsive, professional, and very skillful. "The cement on our slate patio was cracking and in need of attention. Mr. Sanchez and his crew did a great job of grinding out the old cement, stabilizing the stones where necessary and putting in new cement. The crew was efficient and polite. The job was finished on time and for a fair price, IMO. Before and after photos (of one small area) attached. [One note: The grinding out of the old cement created a signigicant amount of dust. much of which went into the adjacent garden. My wife was/is concerned this will affect the chemistry of the soil, thereby affecting the health of her plants. Just be aware.] Highly recommend."

Abel Rivas is just a great person to deal with.  We had a couple of miscommunications along the way, but Able would not allow us to end this job unhappy.

We met with Abel up front to discuss the job.  He gave us a fair price and was able to work within our schedule.  Removing the wall and path went seamlessly.  His crew showed up on time and did exactly what they were supposed to do.  I've worked with contractors in the past who do the job but can be a "handful," for lack of a better term.  This is NOT how Abel's guys operate.  They come in talk with you, work hard, clean up, and leave.  One of the guys didn't quite understand something I told him, so he got Abel on the phone to translate.  It was very easy to work with the team. The guys were respectful and responsive.

After the work in our front yard was done, and it came time to put the wall back, we did not really have a second discussion on what the wall was going to look like.  Again, Abel's crew showed up on time and worked incredibly hard.  However, at the end of the first day, although the guys built a very high-quality wall, we were disappointed in its look (the way the stones were laid was not what we had expected).  We let Abel know, and given past experiences with other contractors were thinking we were going to have a problem.  Abel's text to me that night was that he would figure out a way to make it right.

Abel came out the next morning, we both acknowledged that we could have communicated better with one another.  Abel then offered us several options including leaving the wall the we did not like (which technically fulfilled his contract) at a greatly reduced price, working with the wall to make it more what we wanted, or tearing it down and starting over and building what we expected and making us happy for the original agreed-upon price.

We chose the final option, and the guys finished yesterday.  The wall and path are exactly what we wanted.  Abel came by to check on things again, this morning, to make sure we were satisfied.

We have hired contractors on various properties over the years, and sometimes things don't go well the first time.  I cannot recall working with a contractor who cared so much that his clients were happy.  I wish every person I had to deal with had Abel's level of integrity and customer focus.  He is a great guy, and I would recommend you hire his company for whatever landscaping/hardscape you need.  Best Landscaping does great work, and Abel Rivas stands behind it.

"Bill Bitto was a pleasure to work with and his people were quick and efficient. The work looked great immediately and has continued to look great for the past 1 1/2 years. My only complaint is that the stone and mortar dust did bad things to the grass and plants adjacent to where they worked. I recommend placing a drop cloth to protect plants.

"The workmanship was excellent, and the new stone facade retaining wall looks very nice indeed! The stone facade was effectively equivalent of a 4" stone wall on the face of the concrete cinderblock and required the same degree of craftmanship that a fully mortared stone retaining wall would have needed in terms of cutting and fitting each stone. It is a pleasure to see such craftsmanship on display. Retaining walls do need to stand the test of time to prove themselves and while it is still early days we do feel very good about what was put in place by XtraCare. XtraCare also did not nickle-and-dime us which was very refreshing and pleasant experience overall. We definitely intend to have them in our shortlist for any landscaping project we undertake in the future."
