""Flor" has helped with several small design projects around my condo. Most recently she guided me through the process of replacing a dark cork kitchen floor with a new Luxury Vinyl tile. She provided ideas about the materials, the layout that expanded the small space, provided an eyecatching pattern and did not over complicate the room. This new floor was a gamechanger in a small dark kitchen that seemed to expand and fill with light. Flor obtained the materials at a reasonable price and found a fabulous contractor. Her contractor, BilBar Construction, accurately evaluated the potential problems of working in a small space (old flooring, moving heavy built in appliances) and creatively and thoughtfully completed this job! Thanks Flor! Looking forward to some other small home improvement, decorating issues that I face."

"Aleck and his workers just completed a job that involved repairs, woodwork, staining, installing ceiling fans, painting, and more. They even helped me hang playset equipment! I can't say enough good things about their work and their work ethic. They went over and above on each item they tackled, troubleshooting until they had it just right. They arrived every day on time, were very nice, and did excellent work. Highly recommend!!"

"He's very careful and fairly knowledgeable but he's too worried about making a mistake so he goes slow, but its quality work but it takes a little longer and its a tad bit expensive than others."

FAQs for design and decorating projects in New Orleans, LA

Start by defining your goals and budget. Collect photos of rooms you love, jot down must-have features, and list what isn’t working in your current space. Share these details—and your target budget—during the first meeting. The clearer you are, the quicker a designer can translate your vision into a workable plan and keep costs in check.

Yes, working with an interior designer can help you save money. Designers prevent costly missteps, secure trade discounts on furniture and finishes, and coordinate the project so you don’t pay twice for the same work. Their upfront fee often pays for itself in avoided change orders, tighter timelines, and materials purchased at below-retail pricing.

A full interior design project wraps up in two to three months, on average, while a decorating job takes four to eight weeks. Timelines stretch if you add structural changes, custom millwork, or specialty materials, and unexpected shipping or permit delays can tack on extra days. Talk with your designer about project milestones and build in a little wiggle room.

Interview at least three pros whose portfolios match your style. Review their credentials and ask for references. During a face-to-face or virtual meeting, discuss your goals, budget, and timeline, and make sure their communication style and fee structure feel comfortable. The right designer combines technical know-how with a creative approach that clicks with you.
