"The person who performed the work first visited the home and assessed the doorway to receive the door slab.  It was noted that the frame was not completely square and would require some shimming.  The door was already routed at the factory, but the door frame would need to be routed.  I purchased a template and would have used a router to do this myself, but agreed to let the installer do it instead.  My conditions in addition to those of the contractor included holding the contractor liable for any and all damages to the materials and area of work, and that work must be completed on the same day as begun.
The installer arrived within 30 minutes of the target time, and gave me a complimentary call ahead of time before he arrived.  He was professional and seemed to be knowledgeable about most aspects of home construction and carpentry.  He was friendly and easy to converse with.
We knew in advance that the doorway would require some adjustment to bring the frame into 90-degree angles and true vertical and horizontal interior surfaces.  However, the complexity and amount of labor seemed to be more than the installer could manage within the time he was on-site (between 10:30 a.m. and about 5:00 p.m.).  Although I was unhappy to reschedule my following day to allow for further work, it was unavoidable.  Also, the recesses for the door hinges were not created with a router, nor even by the more crude way of hand chiseling.  Instead, the installer used something like an electric hammer chiseler but left rough voids beyond the area of the hinge.  This will require filling, sanding and painting to hide the chewed-up appearance.
Door stops, the long strips of wood that are placed into the frame to prevent the door from swinging too far inward, were installed.  I had purchased these and made marks on them to indicate which ones should be facing this and that way.  I pointed out to the installer that I had one marked the opposite way by mistake, but he installed it in the wrong direction anyway.  This presented the rounded edge (trailing) toward the door instead of the leading, square edge.  With the mitering effected, I will have to not only remove the stop and flip it upside down, but also re-miter the edge to fit against the adjoining stop piece.  There were some other minor complaints also.  I note that the installer was able to remove the trim around the doorway without splitting it, although a split did occur in the top of the frame when a ball-stop receiver was installed without clean routing and pilot holes for the screws.
I received a customer satisfaction survey from Handyman Connection and indicated my dissatisfaction.  Soon after, I received a call from the owner, who was concerned about my notes.  He was genuinely trying to protect their business reputation and salvage my satisfaction.  He offered to send someone back to the home to see if they could improve the work, but I was not  willing to let them work on the doorway any further.
This review in no way complains about the character of either the installer or owner of Handyman Connection.  I truly believe the installer is a very likeable, respectable person with much experience in home construction, and would be glad to know him personally and welcome him as a guest.  I recommend him as a person of good moral character.  And, I am sure that I could have had much worse service by other contractors.  I will consider using Handyman Connection again, but there will be contractual penalties enforced for any terms violated.

"Helped me with some renovations around my house. Very good with communication and getting things done. Very smart and knowledgeable about pretty much everything. It was nice not having to hire different people to do multiple things. For example : new walls, painting, installing new doors and frames, etc. Got things done in a timely manner and did an amazing job!! Definitely will hire again!!!"
