Magic Hands Handyman

Issue Description: On April 12, 2026, I paid Ricky from Magic Hands $1,150 to perform a ceiling repair, bathtub drain repairs, and a bathtub resurface. This contractor was referred to me by an Angie's List representative, who informed me that they were outsourcing to Ricky from a group of listed contractors. After a phone consultation, which sounded professional and reassuring, we met at 6525 Woodland Avenue while I was on my way to work, and I handed over the agreed payment. Ricky promised to do the job himself but sent an associate instead, without informing me. The associate didn't speak English, causing a major communication barrier. After receiving the payment, the associate went to my home, and the next morning, Ricky texted me claiming the job was completed. I had not been able to review it, but once I did, I noticed it was a very poor-quality job. The ceiling looked rough, like it was patched with mud, and the drain still leaks. Despite Ricky's claim that it would fix with time, the water continues to leak, and the job was incomplete as promised. When I called Ricky to address this, he asked for more money, which I refused since he didn't even complete the job properly. He promised to fix it, but never showed up, no calls, no visits, despite my sister and me repeatedly trying to follow up. Specific Concerns: I paid $1,150 for ceiling and drain repairs, which were never properly completed. The contractor sent an associate without informing me, leading to miscommunication and confusion. The ceiling is still visibly flawed, and the drain continues to leak. Ricky failed to follow through on promised visits, repeatedly delayed, and ignored my calls and texts. This is causing me a lot of anxiety.
