They installed two doors and I'm not happy with them. I've tried to get a hold of them. I've left messages and they won't get back with me. I would not recommend them. I will never use them again. A new person took over ownership and he does not stand behind his work and he doesn't get back to you. They were fine before the new owners took over. There was on person that installed the door and I did not like him. When I made a comment to him, he stated, "I have the old door if you want me to put it back on."

I really liked their service because they have done work for me before on the same deck and that is the reason why I had them come back. But it was not to correct the work they did, it was to correct the original?s contractor?s work. I just had a lot of confidence with the work that they did. They knew what they were doing and I knew that I could depend on them.

They are just perfect and I appreciate the work that they did. I think that their price is on the high end but they are competitive. I like that they make sure that the job is done right. Even though I hired another contractor, I have confidence in them and I know that if they do something there will be no repairs later on.

The workmanship was good. The subcontractors were punctual and professional and worked quickly and efficiently. They also removed old items and cleaned the work area before leaving. We were disappointed with the lack of communication from the office during the project. We were told that the work would begin two weeks after we signed the contract, but the work didn't begin for three weeks. We weren't informed about this by the office. The subcontractor showed up, without notification, to go up on the roof to take measurements and photographs. On two other occasions during the project, we contacted the office to inquire if materials had been ordered; the office administrator told us that she would look into it and get back to us, but we were never contacted. When the office did contact us to inform us that the workers were on their way, they did arrive within an hour. Our rating would have been higher if the office communication had been better.

It went great. I had contacted several other people who didn't respond or were slow. They sent one of the owners himself and he walked with us around the home. They were personable. He kept it cost effective for us and made recommendations for what should be done in the future. He had the opportunity to do other jobs and he didn't. He is very loyal. The staff is very complimentary and they've worked on other houses on the block. He gave us a time frame and outline and when we should do it. I was totally impressed. There was the possibility for an upcharge and he did not! We are going to use them again in the future for other projects.

Poor crown molding over fireplace, 2 piece, uneven. Claims cannot use one piece. Poor electrical work replacing incandescent fixture for LED can spotlight. Used cheapest, thinnest, plastic bead board sheet available from home center.
Needed plastic electrical junction box for junction between old knob & tube wiring to romex cable. Should use large enough junction box so knob & tube can enter different openings to splice to romex. Even provided speech as to how knob & tube should never be close or next to each other. Could cause fire. Box used was smallest home center provided. Had both knob & tube conductors entering same hole next to each other. Did not cut back brittle end insulation. Capped and taped and stuffed in tiny junction box. I had even watched while being installed. I ended up ripping out entire can fixture from ceiling. Re-spliced knob & tube to romex correctly, cutting back brittle knob & tube ends to solid, using larger plastic junction box so each conductor enters separate holes to allow distance between conductors. Remount new can fixture. Re-drywall / patch ceiling. Lousy job that could of caused a fire. Have called to have crown molding fixed. Left message. Has been a over a week with no call back. Half inch of excess drywall compound left after patching bathroom wall when removing in wall medicine cabinet. Very expensive. Very poor work. Do not recommend.

i saw them on Angie's List.

I reviewed and updated my experience with Father &Sons Remodelers and I acted a little too hastily , the professionalism was tremendous and they were punctual and went right to work on the job . I would use them again given a fair estimate.

I agreed. I must say Joe pulled two samples out for flooring on his first visit. One laminate and one high grade, the $2,900 quote was for the higher grade, with $1,500 for the laminate . George was dispatched on the 2nd visit and quoted $1.050.00 for the countertop. I agreed to have the countertop but not the floor. Countertop was installed on December 23rd. Looks good except for a 2 foot section where the is about an 1/8 separation between the counterop and the backsplash, Called for service on it and after a couple of calls the contractor returned and caulked with clear caulk. Mind you the wall is a bit uneven and when the counter was installed a wood piece wedge was placed between the sink and the wall on the countertop to keep the backsplash from pulling away from the wall. When they came for the service call I asked if they could shim under the countertop to raise it up at the problem area for the countertop to meet the back splash. They said no. I questioned why they were using clear caulk instead of colored to match. They insisted clear would be fine. Well it ain't. Just this morning the "clear" caulk got a little wet and turned to its original white. Now I will have to wait for it to turn clear again when it dries. I have since located colored caulk and will try to fix it myself. How can I show a house with the caulk changing colors?
The floor I had done with LOMAX. It was about the same type as Father and Son and only cost $970.00, Have always used LOMAX in the past and they have done great jobs at really good prices.
I must advise you that I will pay more for work to be done as long as it is done right. The cheapest price is not always the best. I also don't like to waste contractors time by getting all kinds of quotes. Apparently you have to. I have had work done in the past by Father and Son in the form of a new bathroom. (15,000.00) They did come out to service it a few times, so they do try to stand behind their work. Problem I have with that bathroom is that after 3 years the ceiling paint is peeling and the light fixture is pitted with rust. In questioning that I said I don't think there is a lifetime warranty. Father and Son felt the bathroom is not properly ventilated. Well there is a skylight. and I had none of these problems in the previous 33 years I lived in the house. Oh, I busted my butt to fix the bathroom ceiling. I painted, it peeled. Took a week of spackling, sanding and painting but looks good now. Probably was no primer coat as best I can figure.
I was so hot over the initial pricing that I was telling my elderly mother-in-law who I first learned about Father and Son from. She had crown molding in her living room, dining room and foyer. Additionally. she had a new kitchen floor put in too.
She told me that Joe initially quoted her $2,900 dollars for the molding. She said it was too high and told Joe that it was and she wanted a kitchen floor too. He immediately dropped the molding down to $1,900.00. Go figure. , Mom had Father and Son did do the molding and the floor. The contractor on the floor put a big scratch in the floor while putting back the refrigerator and still demanded payment. He was told to go scratch and Father and Son came out to see the problem and had the contractor replaced the scratched materials. So in her case Father and Son did a good job.
Given everything I can't give them any better than a C rating. I was gonna raise it to a B if the countertop went well but it didn't.
Overall it looks ok but far from perfect. Having to fix it myself is annoying.
I think that you have to approach getting a price for work done on your house to like buying a car. You have to haggle. I prefer for the contractor to just estimate the work and give me their best price, end of story.

They did did a great job, and the process was comfortable and friendly. They followed through from beginning to end. At the end of the job, I felt like I absolutely hired the right company and I will use them for all future work. This is family owned and supervised business and we were able to get financing that we could afford. I would recommend Father & Son Remodeling Builders to anyone getting home improvements.

The women who you speak to on the phone from the office were very nice and helpful and always easy to get a hold of. A salesman came to discuss the job. He was nice and helpful also, although I didn't realize he wouldn't be going ANY of the actual work on the job. He was just a salesman. He gave us a price, and told us the job would take 5 days. Then the "foreman", George, came to look at the job, said he wasn't told it was a brick wall and there was nothing he could do, he would send out masons to take down the wall. George was there for all of 10 minutes, and never to be seen again. I guess they subcontract the masons for the brick removal. They got the job done quickly, but in the process scratched my hardwood floors, put holes in my linoleum kitchen floors by moving my fridge, and used duct tape on my white walls to hold up a tarp, which ripped off the paint and let track marks. The two men who came to do the work for the next few days were nice but took very long (maybe there should have been more men on the job). After they left, no one came for weeks. I had to call George time and time again to find out when the job would be finished. Basically he told me he didn't know, and maybe the work was taking long cause the guy on the job was older. RIDICULOUS. I told him the job was supposed to be done in 5 days, his response was, "well no one should have told you that". BUT THEY DID. After all was said and done the job took over a month, and there was only actual work being done over 5 days in the month. Too many middle men in the company, and complete lack of communication. Definitely would not use again
They arrived on time for the estimate and were very professional. We had decorative roof brackets that were rotten and needed to be replaced. After inspection of the brackets it was determined that they needed to be removed. Since the house was built circa 1910, the brackets at the time were probably custom made and just buying replacements was not an option. They took measurements and said they would get back to us with an estimate. The estimate was received the next day and we accepted the contract right then. This estimate was less than 2 others we received and they were building new ones compared to the other estimates where they were going to just repair what was there. The pieces took about 2 weeks to build and the job was completed in a little over 3 weeks. We had no complaints at all with the communication, professionalism, estimate, or the finished product. It looked great and blended well with our tudor house. We would definitely use them again.
Father and Son?s work was excellent! My project was one of difficulty because the former contractor left my upper deck unfinished, which presented a safety issue and coding concerns. The representative from Father and Son Builders evaluated the
project and agreed to finish the job, helping my family and me through a difficult situation. The project manager was much appreciated in terms of attention to detail from the beginning and beyond completion of the project to ensure complete satisfaction and township coding compliance; a value added service. The contractors were courteous, professional, clean, and informative. The few times that I called, the office staff answered my questions promptly. They all kept to their schedules and exhibited high quality customer service.
What I appreciated most was the integrity and the business ethics of all to guarantee top quality. I will always consider Father
and Son Builders for future projects. I will never have the ability to thank them enough for providing excellent service and completing a difficult project.

We ended up getting another contractor. The reason it took so long to respond since 2005 as we were very upset at all the money we spent for nothing. We contacted a lawyer but were advised we probably would not gain anything by it. Very dissatisfied.

It was fine and good. I am very happy with it. It's what I wanted and it looks good. They did a nice job. They were pretty much on time each day and if they will be late they inform me ahead of time. They worked continuously. They weren't the cleanest people in the world but I handed them my vacuum cleaner so they clean up at the end of the day. But men just don't clean as well as women do. I would have appreciated a little bit more for the clean up but for what they did, it was okay.

Overall, looked good when done, but now walls where shower was built around starting to bubble. Can see where all nail marks are and top by shelves starting to split. Shower pan looks dirty all the time. But, again partly my fault for not calling the back to fix the problems. Did not want to
deal with them again, most of workers spoke very poor English. Would not recommend them!!!
Response from Father & Son Remodeling/Builders
"We appreciate this members feedback although we disagree with her rating and felt it is not a fair one, all reviews help us improve and grow. The vanity we gave was a standard size high end one and it was too high for them and to operate in that space, we immediatley ordered a smaller size which unfortuanatly we had to wait for as it was a special order. They were never charged additional cost for the change as she has stated. There was no additional charges on this contract at all. The worker was an excellant craftsman who spoke perfect english and has been with us for years. He took pride in his work which her own words "overall looked good" does not warrant a D. They also had a foreman who spoke perfect english so there was never a commiunication problem. This worker arrived daily at a reasonable time so the low rating for puncuality or professionalism seems unfair. This customer never called since her job was completed at which time she signed a completion stating all services were completed to her satisfaction. She had a warrany on all work for a full year and we would have came back. I appreciate her honesty admitting she never called us. Records show from the beginning of the job she wanted a discount and we could not give them becuase we gave a fair price for a good job but again there was never any additional costs. We stand firm about that. We feel this rating was unfair however in this great land we live in everyone is entitled to their opionion and we thank her as we do read all reviews and try to take a positive from a negative and learn from it. We enjoyed working with them and thank them for the opportunity. We hope she is pleased with the next contractor she hires."
