About us
In 1897, the first John M. Downey established a small rug cleaning shop in the back of his bakery on the west side of Columbus to help support his wife and eight children. He certainly would have never imagined that the business he started would survive through five generations. For more than 112 years, we have been determined to lead our industry, from manufacturing and marketing innovative products, to providing superior service, to operating a safe, clean and friendly workplace, to observing the highest ethical standards in business conduct and to reward our customers. The pursuit of excellence is a commitment, not an achievement. This commitment is a vital part of the Downey Clean culture.
